O.P. What is this a picture of? (BIOLOGY QUESTION)
Hey y'all,

I found this picture in myspace bulletin, and I'm pretty sure it's a picture of an atom, under a microscope. Can anyone tell me what it is? Where was it taken? When was it taken? Who took it?

Definitely not an atom :P

For one, we can't see atoms yet (at least as clearly as that anyway), and also that looks more like some sort of nebula, perhaps a pulsar.

EDIT: It is in fact the Eskimo Nebula, a planetary nebula formed by a dead star. Found here after a quick Google.

It's not an atom. It's apparently something called "the eye of God", and it's taken by the Hubble telescope (which means it's in space - not quite atom sized).

I got the same answer based on the image location
If only I knew what I should put here

Yes. The link you posted doesn't even contain the word 'Eskimo'. It just references the image as a Planatery nebula, which indeed it is.

In which case, the image posted by the OP has been named wrongly.

EDIT: oh and now you've changed your link, surprise.

Yes. The link you posted doesn't even contain the word 'Eskimo'. It just references the image as a Planatery nebula, which indeed it is, but to be exact it is the Helix Nubla.

mindflight.plymouth.edu/mf2001/space/nebula/PN_EskimoNebula.jpg

is the filename of the image at the original link I had.

I changed the link to illustrate further that it was the eskimo nebula. See all the pictures that look just like the OP? :P

..er newb, the image url is http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m301/kins4U/01-hubble-eye-of-god.jpg. It is not the 'Eye of God', hence it is named wrongly. Your original link mentioned NOTHING of an Eskimo Nebula.

Edit: I take that last bit back, the url of the image in the original link does reference it as Eskimo.

Sigh...

I actually went to the trouble of researching stuff before I posted:
