It is possible to change the font using Messsenger Plus! Skins, yes. However if you are looking to remove ClearType on just the chat windows, unfortunately at a quick glance there is no way to disable it per application (and if there was, it would disable ClearType for the whole of Messenger anyway).

Can I use my skin and then easy remove ClearType font with Messenger Plus! Skin somehow? I exportet my skin (one of MS own), but I didn't get a .plsk file? If I make one, can I easy only change the font then?

The skinning engine Messenger uses cannot disable ClearType, but you can replace references to fonts in it to use bitmap fonts instead.

I've put together a quick skin that simply replaces the fonts in Messenger; I've set it as MS Mincho although you can change it.

EDIT: To change the font, go to C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Skins\Font Replace Skin and open SkinInfo in Notepad.

* Can I get it to change the incoming messages to? They are still in ClearType somehow. Is there any more <String Id="2095X"> I can add that fix this?

You can override your contacts' fonts using Messenger Plus!:

Preferences -> Conversations -> Formatting -> Received messages font

Yes, and I can pick the font, but the font I pick is always in ClearType!
I need the <String Id="?????"> for this I think, so I can add it to your script.

Try adding this line then:

<String Id="3018" Source="msgres">Font</String>

If it doesn't work, then I guess the only option is to disable ClearType altogether.

EDIT: Actually I'm pretty sure there is no way to change the fonts for the chat area, unfortunately.
