O.P. Google Calendar Countdown?
Hey,

I'm looking for an application that shows me when my next event in Google Calendar is.

This is to help with my university schedule, mainly to remind me how many hours until my morning lecture (so I get some sleep!). :p

Ideally it needs to support multiple calendars and work on Windows 7.

You can get gadgets or widgets, but I don't really want a program (e.g. Google Desktop) which is going to slow down my computer.

There's some Firefox add-ons such as 'Google Calendar Notifier' which says how many events for today in the status bar, but not exactly what I'd like.

Ideally I wish I could have a countdown next to the Windows clock saying "[Image: calendargoogle.png] 5hr 37min" or something. But otherwise maybe just an icon in the system tray would be cool.

Google Calendar 'labs' allows you to add a 'Next Meeting' gadget, but unfortunately doesn't work for multiple calendars and you'd have to be on the website to see it anyway.

If anyone has any ideas, would be great to hear them. :)

gadgets/widgets are very resource low and shouldn't be using any more resources than any other solution (browser bar, extra program to take over system clock, etc). So I think this would be your best bet anyways.

If you want something to sit next to (or even take over) your system clock, there are tons of clock programs which include a countdown. But I don't know any which will directly interact with Google Calender though. Although some of those clock programs do have a scripting engine too which you can utilize. But all of that will surely use more resources than a dedicated widget.

After a lot of tweaking (removing sidebar, search toolbar, etc.) I managed to get a pretty good setup and it doesn't use up many resources (default setup uses ~40,000k whereas my tweaked uses ~10,000k). There doesn't appear to be a calendar countdown gadget, but the calendar & agenda is pretty good.

Thanks, but unfortunately 'Dayhiker' (left) doesn't show the countdown like Google Calendar Checker (right), which is what I want it for.

I'll stick with the Google Desktop gadget for now.

Nice, thank you!

I started using this Windows Gadget as a countdown. Pretty good.
