O.P. email notifications says I have 880 new messeges?!
Hi!
I use POP3 for hotmail and everytime I get a new email it just shows how many email I have in my inbox. I want it to be like "you have 3 new messeges" and if a read them or delete them, the counter should reset it self!
Is this possible?
Regards
LTR

LTR, can you check your registry and navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\
Check if MessageExpiryDays exist and if so, if it has a value other than 0. If it is set to anything other than 0, then change its value to 0.
Also, under that registry path, there might be other subkeys (the email addresses you have registered in Windows). Click on them and check their MessageCount values. You could try to remove it or set it to 0, if it has a very large number.
You open the registry by clicking on the Windows Start button > Run, type Regedit and press OK.
Note: be carefull to not change anything else in your regsitry without knowing what you're doing.
--------------------------
If the above didn't help, then there are a few questions to answer and things you could try:
1) Try to sign in in Messenger on another computer (which also has Plus! installed). Do you see the same amount of unread mail there too?
2) Try to move all your mails out of your inbox and into subfolders (this is recommended anyways though) and restart the computer. What is the number of unread mails you see now?
3) Change the setting: Plus! > Preferences & Options > E-mail accounts > Update the unread e-mail count in my Windows Welcome Screen.
It should be enabled by default. But if it was, try to disable it and see if it has changed anything.

I've tried to set the MessageCount in regedit to zero. But after 3 minutes it changes to the amount of email I have in my inbox.
MessageExpiryDays did not exist.
I tried to move my emails to another folder but that didn't work.
The thing is Msg Plus pop3 notification just show me how many e-mails i got in my inbox and NOT how many NEW messeges I have.
The counter doesn't reset after I have read my emails.
Why is that?
Thank you for your help!!!

yep, I know it shows the total amount of email and not the unread email count. You were clear the first time though
But you haven't answered a single question...
Q1: yes/no?
Q2: what is the amount you see now?
Q3: did it change anything, and if so, what exactly?

A1: I do not have access to another computer at the moment, sorry. =/
A2: The amount of email is the amount of email in my inbox. For the moment 882. If a get a new email it will say I have 882. And if I move all mails to a subfolder it will show 0 emails. And if I put all emails back to inbox it shows me 882 (for the moment).
A3: It did not change anything what I can see. Still the same problem.

Hmmm... it could be that hotmail doesn't completely follow the POP3 rules (Gmail has had that same problem).
Can you check with another POP3 email client and see how many emails it shows (eg: thunderbird)?
BTW: in Messenger does it also say +880 emails in the upper right corner on the mail icon?
--------------------
EDIT: I just tested it with an hotmail account myself, and it works like it should (read mails are not counted).

I'm just saying, I think I have had similar, if not exactly the same problems with Yahoo! Mail. All mail in inbox are counted.
So I just gave up and reverted by to my Firefox add-ons for this.
