O.P. Huh?  STATUS..with a mind of it's own !
Hello...I have had a problem with my status recently...it seems to change on it's own.  I have checked to make sure I haven't enabled options like the automatic away after so long..it isn't checked...I AM the only one  on the computer also, so I know there is no one else changing it.  What I am finding is that I will mark myself away, and then when I come back to the computer later on, it has changed the status to online...this is getting out of hand...especially since my mother in law thinks I am there but am ignoring her....LOL!!!
Any advice?!?

I think that your problem is:

You have enabled the option "Allow automatic sign in when connected to the Internet" so, here is the problem: Your (M) disconnects, when the Internet connection starts again, messenger do an automatic sign in and the status is Online.

No need to Double Post, we are glad to help. Just wait.

By the way, Welcome to the Forums.

The "Allow automatic sign in when connected to the Internet" option is located at Tools/Options General Tab,

actually...I have a DSL line, so I don't lose my connection...and more frustrating, I don't have that checked either because I don't like it to sign in automatically...my mother in law might be lying in wait...LOL

sorry, didnt' realize I had double posted....first time here and am just getting the hang of it I guess

OIC...not the way it works at all when I work in other forums...didn't know what you meant there about the double posting deal....at any rate...
I don't have it checked...and run programs that are connected to the net on a constant basis from time to time.....have NEVER once in more than 2 1/2 years been bumped or lost my connection...except the one time the power went out ;).
any other suggestions ?!?

mmm...that last one sounds a bit advanced for me...and I DO like to sign in as online..I just dont' want messenger doing it on it's own when I am actually marked away

A "DSL line" isn't a 100% Uptime connection! be sure, that (M) will not find a connection and will disconect  and reconect if you have that option enabled.

But, you don' have it right? (Please double check) So, I really don't know what your problem is...

Not that simple, but maybe yes.... if he hasnt checked, but (M) is still doing that, that could be the solution.

Your connection doesn't have to be "bumped" for (M) to think that. What I mean is that (M) could think it doesn't have a conneciton while it has it!

That's true.... even if your connection stays always online, the Messenger servers can sometimes experience some problems that will disconnect you and reconnect you, reseting your status to what it was. In factm if you enable personailised away, Messenger Plus! will put back your status after you've signed back so it will fix your problem :).

I know....double post, but I wanted my answer to stay close to Patchou's reply, I was getting lost going back and forth.....lol
Patchou...I hear what you mean about having Messenger disconnect, and understand, but know this is not what is happening, simply because I do not allow automatic sign in, if they had signed me out or lost the connection it just sits there with me signed out.  I thought I HAD enabled the personalized away too..(I really like Plus! by the way).  I guess what I need to ask is this...if I change my status to 'away', it should stay like that until either signed out or I change it myself...RIGHT?!?!?!? *sigh*...don't know if this is well explained without you actually seeing what it is doing.
thanks for your help at any rate :S
