I have the latest Plus! installed and among other things I use it to rename contacts. Problem is that they seem to be ordered randomly and each time I look for a contact (my contact list is very big) it's inconvenient. Is there any way of sorting them alphabetically?

It is already sorted alphabetically just by emails.
Plus! uses the "Sort by email" function for the Custum Names feature, there is no way to sort them differently when CM is on.

To my knowledge, there is no way to order them alphabetically.

Why not try putting them into groups?

Contacts > Sort Contacts By > Groups

You can take a look at CookieRevised reply to 'Suggestion for plus! - Custom contact names in alphabetical order' and also CookieRevised reply to 'Who no alphabetical order with customizing (renaming) names at Contact List'. And also it's useful to use search function.
