As of today, Music Mix is available to MSN Messenger 7.5 users as well as Windows Live Messenger 8.0 users. However the geographic restrictions still apply, it is only available to those users who live in USA, France, Germany, Japan and UK (or at least have their Passports set to those locations).

If you don't know what Music Mix is:

How awesome would it be if two people, in a conversation, could share one playlist? What about sharing a playlist along with the ability to add or remove tracks, skip to the next song, or reshuffle? Well, this is now a reality for Windows Live Messenger users!

How To Use It:

1. Open a conversation window
2. Hit “activities”
3. Select the second one down: Music Mix
4. When the play list opens, add tracks to it and jam away…together!

Details:
  • Remember – you’re sharing a play list. If you fastforward, skip, or stop a song, your buddy will hear the same thing you do.
  • Songs are not actually transferred to your buddy, only a compressed version is temporarily cached on their computer while you mix.
  • Playlist file formats are wma, mp3, & wav
  • Music Mix holds up to 25 songs at a time, each a max of 20MB in size. You must delete songs to add more
  • Album art info is shown at the top of the activity window only in the US, but obscure songs can sometimes show the wrong album art.

  • The Search button only shows up for songs added by your buddy, clicking it will take you to an MSN Music search for your song
Requirements:[list]
[*]Currently only available in the US, France, Germany, Japan, and the UK.
[*]Requires WMP 10, which is available for Windows XP and up.
[*]Now available on Windows Live Beta, but VERY SOON  MSN Messenger users will see it show up in their activity menu as well, so keep checking it.

Because of the simple fact that each country has their own set of laws. It's not something they can change when they want to. Features made are made, weither or not countries allow those features in their software is their problem, not the MSN team.

I doubt there will be that many users switching clients because of sharing folders :S. All you have to do is switch your passport country and you get the extra stuff. Blame the countries governments, not MSN :p.

I think Sean was referring to the average computer/MSN user though Animal. Most Australians that will upgrade to WLM won't even notice Sharing Folders if the MSN Messenger team never activate it for us! Also no ones going to notice that all these activities with your contacts aren't available for us either.

The average computer user won't even know what trillian and miranda are and probably would revert back to using MSN Messenger after as i think it would more suit there tastes.
Segosa is newb.
