Windows XP Service Pack 2 (5.1.2600)
Windows Live Messenger 8.00.0792
Messenger Plus! Live 4.01.0.240

Hey, I have recently updated to Windows Live and MP!L and have found that since the change none of my events seem to work, this includes the custom event notifications (I have made multiple for every contact on my list) as well as updating the log in the event viewer.

The event viewer window only shows records of when I change my own statuses and sign in/out etc. I get no toasts notifying me of contacts changing their names or going offline (which I should).

I uninstalled the lot (Windows Messenger and MP!L) and tried reinstalling but it has made no difference. Everything else seems to work fine. *-) I'd appreciate any help with this problem. :)

Did you renable it in MP!L? All settings have been reset and cannot be imported from MP! 3.

Yep I sure did. More than once now considering the reinstall. 8-)

It seems to strangely work today on my university wireless internet but it wasn't working on my own at home. Could be my socks server at home causing the problems, but I doubt it. :S

Don't ever doubt anything. Best thing is to perhaps disabling you socks server and stuff like that to see if it makes any difference. Sometimes it's the little thinks like a socks server that can make a difference.

Hi there,
I'm also experiencing the same problem, however I am using an HTTP proxy server which is what is provided by my school.  Is there anyway to make the events notifications work.  Please Advise.

I have recently experimented and found that dialling directly to the net with my laptop modem makes events work... and so does connecting to the uni proxy. I think the problems lie within Socks restrictions, my home one being Socks v4 it doesn't allow UDP connections which *could* be messing with it, I haven't bothered experimenting too much because I am connecting ADSL soon and won't need the Socks server anyway.

I can't suggest anything for a HTTP proxy server but if socks was offered you could try using ProxyCap or a similar program to "socksify" your MSN and Messenger Plus. :)

Its odd how events are the only thing affected yet they weren't in older version... *-)

Thanks for the info.  I'll definitely try out Proxycap!
