check by start > run > winver

google: http://www.google.ca/search?q=0xc0000005 - The error 0xC0000005 is             generated by an illegal "memory access violation".

Let me guess, you're using a Sony Vaio or some other Sony product (say a Sony MP3 player)?

If so, go to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel and remove the SonicStage Mastering Studio Audio Filter.  If that's not there, try uninstalling any other SonicStage branded software.

After that, restart and try Messenger again.

Note: I am not Dutch, but not from lack of trying :P

Fab, thank you.  Got rid of the Sonicstage filter and works perfectly.

Thanks for the speedy advice!!
