With Messenger Plus! 3, if you were using tabbed chats and were in a different (non-MSN) window, if a message came in the the taskbar would flash and the name would switch to the person who had actually messaged you. With MP!L it just flashes the name of whichever tab you had open when you minimized the window, which I find really confusing since I assume that person has messaged me! Is there any way to switch it back to the old way?

I third this, however am not so easily confused.

Alternately if it's just that you are afraid of missing a new conversation started with you, you can set a notification for "started new chat" as shown in the image below:



You can even set it to play a sound in the same event notification if a visual notification isn't enough
