O.P. Skinning bug
Well, when I was skinning my Messenger, I came across a bug.

1) Create a skin
2) Remove the Sharing Folders icon from the dashboard of the Contact List window
3) Restart your Messenger and Sign-in
4) Close the Contact List window
5) Open the Contact List window
6) Look at the dashboard, your name/dp/psm will all be nothing and also some icons that aren't normally in the dashboard appear.

To fix, you have to change your status or something like that.

I am running:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (5.1.2600)
Windows Live Messenger 8.5.1018
Messenger Plus! Live 4.50.0.310
Skin: uberultramegaawesomeskin 0.8

Also it has been happening on other skins (like Willz's Ev0 3)

I hope this is enough information and also hope that it can be fixed up :)

RE: Skinning bug
This happens when you remove some elements in Messenger's contact list. And it's not a bug of Messenger Plus!, it's a Messenger bug. It's well known in by old-school skinners and does also occur when you remove the code for the search-bar in the bottom of the contact list.
Never remove elements, just hide them using "LayoutPos=none" or similar methods. This will hopefully solve the problem. You can read more about hiding elements here.

However it has been reported that there are other causes to this issue, but this is the usual cause.
