RE: Computer auto shuts down randomly
It can go either way. Try it and see. The ventilation design in a typical desktop PC is very primitive and there it would usually help. In case of more advanced designs, where the air flow is carefully channeled to the right places, it can hurt...

RE: Computer auto shuts down randomly
Do you have a second temperature reading available, usually called "ambient" or "motherboard" temperature? If so, what is it? Most boards have a sensor somewhere on the board, which reports (roughly) the air temperature inside the case. Since ...

RE: Computer auto shuts down randomly
If "shuts off" = turns off and stays off until the power button is pressed to turn it on again, then the first suspect should be the power supply. It would be unusual for any other component to cause that without the power supply already being pu...

RE: Router Problem..
Hi, There are several schemes to securing a wireless connection. The most univerally supported one is WEP with pre-shared key. To use WEP, you need to choose 64 or 128-bit WEP encryption, pre-shared key authentication mode, select a key index (1-4)...

RE: PC Frequency???
As TReKiE said, typical PC-generated interference consists of a wide range of Nth harmonics and intermodulation products from the front-side, memory and PCI busses. Even if you were able to change these, you would at most shift some of the peaks, wh...

RE: Paypal probems -what do I do!?
Gin, You simply need to get in the habit of deleting all such unsolicited emails without even reading them. Even if they were from Paypal, they probably would be advertising you can live without. To give you an idea how bad it can get, I receve 6 ...

I am afraid I have to agree with Dane on this one. Don't take offense at this, I'm glad the phone replacement insurance has provided you with a job -- however, it is not a good product for the consumer. Here's why: When I have been offered this...

Johny, While looking at your bridge screenshot more closely, I now see there is one problem (at least). And it's all my fault, too. :( I made a mistake in my example settings while typing your DNS server address from your original screenshots. It...

RE: Networking
I am not sure why that would be. I use this exact configuration myself, although I usually use it with dynamic IPs. Make sure you didn't accidentally give your friend's computer the same IP address as you did yours (both .100 or both .101). That ...

RE: Networking
Based on your screenshots and the assumption .101 is not used by anything else, I'd expect it to look like this: Your PC (network bridge) IP: 192.168.1.100 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DNS: 194.68.100.117 Your friend's PC[/...

Hi, You are trying to do something more complicated than necessary (and then doing it wrong, too). Instead, try this: 1) Remove the static IP address and DNS settings from your wired network adapter and save the change. Set it to acquire both autom...

RE: I got a weird problem
Move them further apart. If the computer and the radio are presently plugged into the same wall outlet, it may help to plug them into different ones. Anything else would cost money (power line conditioning filters, better shielded computer case).

RE: In Need Of Assistance With Pc!
Hi, There can be many causes for the computer restarting and figuring it out may take some time and work. You didn't say what version of Windows you have, so I am going to assume XP. The first thing I'd like you to try is click the "Start" butto...

Hi, You may be in much more trouble than "problems with Paypal". :( For your sake, I hope you didn't click a link in the email to go to the "Resolution Center". This sounds like a p hishing scam[...

For now. Wide adoption could lead to it being effectively mandatory -- when everyone uses it, other choices will disappear. That is why such proposals need to be scrutinized and fought (when necessary) early on. I think it is clear our disagreemen...

CookieRevised, We can debate whether such an ID card is a good idea or not, but you are clearly mistaken (or using your own personal definition of anonymity) here: There is nothing "anonymous" about that. The site has verified a government issued...

RE: Another MOBO question
Short list of things that I'd attempt / verify: 1) Check the rear of your power supply. Most have a voltage switch. Verify this is set correctly (115 volts if you are in North America, 230 in Europe). 2) Make sure you didn't forget to connect the...

RE: Motherboard help pleeeaseee
In most PC cases, you will usually have twisted pairs of wires. For example, the hard drive light will usually have white and orange wires twisted together. Orange is positive and white is negative (unless your case manufacturer was a n00b).

RE: Motherboard help pleeeaseee
Hi, Buttons and the speaker will work fine connected either way. The LEDs (power and drive lights) won't work if the polarity is reversed, but it won't damage anything either -- you could just try it and turn the wires around if they don't light ...
