RE: PC Frequency???
No, because the PC does not have a "frequency" as such (no we will not discuss CPU freq here). I'm not sure if you've ever had the privilege of using over-the-air television, but if you have and plug in say a laptop on the same electrical circut...

RE: Scripts / Open source disadvantages
Well, I just meant the initial turning on this "Dev mode". Any further prompts, half the people who would install a rogue script would just click OK to them anyway, the other half would click X and complain that nothing worked. Although of course ...

RE: Scripts / Open source disadvantages
FindWindow and SendMessage are quite easy to do .. Any "kiddie" that we're talking about could Google his way to some VB samples of using those APIs and do "modifications" on them.

RE: Scripts / Open source disadvantages
If this thread continues, I think you'll end up with everyone having to get Class 2 CAs from Verisign... Having dealt with these so-called "committees" before where people have personal issues with others or are terribly behind so it takes months ...

RE: Build 217 is now available on the beta site.
Ditto. Except the update dialog seems to have a small cosmetic error in the titlebar, "upate" :) Bugged.

RE: fibre optic cladding
I'm definitely no expert in this topic, but since no one else was replying, I thought I would. I believe that since the light wave has been refracted into the cladding, it's simply "lost" as you already know. I guess your real question is, why i...

RE: Microsoft Broadband Networking Utility
Nope, I've installed this silly utility on lots of PCs (laptops actually) where the hardware was not always plugged in and another WiFi card was installed at least some of the time. It was fine. However, just to clarify, there is no need for this u...

RE: MS Access question: Lookups
What you need to do is create a select query which will output the names and the ID fields that you need. Then go back into the form designer, add a combobox, go through the wizard that pops up, choose the query you just made and then go through the...

RE: Beta Tester Contacts (From MSN Adresses Thread)
Yep, #msgplus.beta. You have to be registered (/ns register) and be added to the access list to get in though.

RE: Exporting hotmail contacts
If you go into the Hotmail contacts, click Print View, and then copy/paste the table into Excel, you should be able to save it as a CSV there with little effort.

RE: RAM Speeds
Assuming you haven't specifically forced a timing, any standard BIOS will simply go with the lower speed for the entire PC. If you have forced the timing, usually any modern BIOS will simply complain on bootup and tell you to change it. Either way,...

RE: MSN - ICQ, Yahoo, AIM GTalk interconnection
No idea. The great gates at Redmond have yet to release any info. Proper interoptability takes time so I'm assuming [and hoping] that they're spending time implementing it right the first time. Although to be fair, they've already done it with...

No, it's one time thing and you don't become part of the beta group (don't have access to the beta site, etc.).

I don't have a brother, so I have no idea if I'd be a good one or not ;) Well, I'll shut up about it then since you do want at least some bit of surprise on Christmas morning :)

Well just check your reps! ;) Sadly with my modest post count here I have yet to be able to lay down those highly important reps that some people well deserve. Oh well, someday :)

RE: Creative Portable Media Centre and MSN Messenger
lol, everyone loves you Patches ;) To be fair, if the PMC had WiFi and a touchscreen (or keyboard!), Messenger would be a great application for it. Hopefully they'll even go in that direction in the future. Still, the PMC can be useful and entertai...

RE: Creative Portable Media Centre and MSN Messenger
Unfortunately you can't. PMC's aren't expandable nor are they really considered a "platform". You can't even add codecs (no xvid, quicktime, etc.) and certainly you can't add additional software. Plus, they don't have a network connection s...

RE: Gradually losing buttons... [solved :S]
Erm. The reason why you're seeing this is because Messenger couldn't connect to the Messenger Configuration Web Service. When it can't, buttons like the My Space will be gone (and as should some of the ads, assuming you didn't *cough* disable t...

RE: Microsoft finally doing something usefull!
I don't see the big deal here, live.com is merely a rehash of http://start.com which has had FireFox support for ages. Looks nicer in IE though :P
