Hello!

it's been a long time I've not posted a real news article. I've been quoted on some web sites so people have started to think that I was not taking care of my users anymore. If you are one of these people, I suggest you to send an email to C2Media (the sponsor company) and ask them how much I've bothered them in the past month about their lightening their advertisement package . Anyway, you won't have to take my word for it, the next beta will be distributed with the new sponsor package so you'll see by yourself: no more network problems, no more adult links (I've always claimed Messenger Plus! to be a family software, I've not change my mind), ... I guess I won’t be quoted for that but I don’t really care, I just hope you’ll enjoy the new version.

Speaking of which, here are some information about the forthcoming Messenger Plus! 2.20. First, I know I talked about a 2.50 version in the past weeks but MSN Messenger 6 becoming incredibly popular, I have to release the new version as soon as possible so I’ve sacrificed some of the planned features. This doesn’t mean however that you won’t see anything new. Here is a list of what you can expect for sure:

• Full Messenger 6 compatibility. I admit I’m kinda proud of that because not much add-ons of this kind can say the same thing. Messenger Plus! has been on the add-on scene for a long time and it will continue to serve you as long as you want it on your computer .
  
• The preferences have been reorganized with some new options. That way, old users will find refreshing things in this new release. For example, you can associate groups to signin/signout sound events.
  
• Several tags have been added like a multi-format tag to display struck-out text. You’ll also find new commands such as /all (sends a message to all your opened conversation windows).
  
• A lot of you were requesting this one: the new Custom Name feature lets you set your own names for your contacts. Customized names are displayed in the contact list and the toast popup windows. This is very handy when your contacts keep changing their names
  
• Another cool new feature: the new “name tag” option of the Personalized Status feature allows you to virtually create any status you want! The Personalised Status feature itself has been reworked a lot so that everything combined together gives you an efficient, useful and fun feature.
  
• Of course, the list doesn’t end here. One other brand new feature I can almost guarantee for the next version is this one: plug-ins! I know it sounds strange for an add-on to talk about plug-ins but Messenger 6 makes developers’ life more and more miserable so I want to give to the community a chance to easily add things like commands or tags. For example, a programmer could do a tag that displays the current Media Player song or, he/she could create a new command that automatically formats the text like a rainbow. Don’t expect very advanced possibilities but it will be fun enough so that more interesting features can be added to Messenger without my help .

• First situation: you work all day long on a free software, 14 hours a day, 7 days a week. You don’t really have holidays because you either have to give some support for your software, or you have to manage the server, fix the bugs, add new features from time to time, listen to what your users want you to do, fight to protect your ideas against jealous developers, your trademarks against corporations much bigger than yourself, your integrity against injurious articles on the net... and when, after all that, you decide to start making some money out of all this work, still by respecting your users and giving them a choice, you’re immediately being criticized and rejected.
  
• Second situation: you have a job taking 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. It brings you insurances, security, good money and vacations. You don’t have to take care of anyone but your own friends&family and your nights can be used to watch TV or play good video games.

So, if I was to set someones name as, say "Pie f*cker" I would see that in my contact list, and when he/she signs in? If so that kinda defeats the purpose of MSN/Windows Messenger having the ability for you to choose whatever name you want, doesn't it?

I just don't like the idea that someone could have me named something I don't like. . It feels as if the freedom to have whatever you want in your name is being taken away, you know? I'm not mad at Patchou for adding it, just kinda upset about it. Like for example: I might want to say to my whole list of 146 people "DarKnight. - { My chat room is open. } " If they have me named whatever they want they can't see that, can they?
I know there is the /all in the next version of + but you have to have all the windows of the people open to do it. I'm not going to open up over 100 windows then get responded from each one probably saying "Ok" Talk about annoying, no?

Well, you are not supposed to use your Display Name to talk to your contacts, and people who really want to see your real Display Name wouldn't change your name on their list, but I do see your point kinda.... Oh well.

Like it's finally there!
As soon as I heard the news about the new plus! who is compatible with the 6.0, I made a real jump of happiness!

After hearing the same question 1000 times ("When will there be a plus! who is compatible with 6.0??") I can now finally anounce to everyone it will be very soon!
(I seem to be the one that knows the most of add-ons and all that sh*t here)

The only reason why I choose the 6.0 over the plus! was because I just hated the 5.0 and because of recently problems with my computer I seemed to have lots of problems with the 4.6 (which I really hated, I still keep saying 4.6 was my all time favourite).
So now I'm very happy and THANK YOU! Finally 1) those questions will stop being asked to me, 2) I'll get my Plus! again (and even better!!)

Now let's chant together: We really love you, Patchou!! (And we really, really do... )

I haven't downloaded MSN Messenger 6 yet, I will do it on my other computer when the new Plus! comes out, then I will be able to test with version 6, version 5 and 4.7.

Patchou, congratulations on the great work.  The idea of having our own name for contacts is good, but will there be any possibility of having our own name, suffixed by their actual user name.  For example, if we set someone's name as bob, and their actual user name was 'I have a Radio in My Car'...we would see "Bob - I have a Radio in My Car".  This would be helpful for those who like peoples long drawn out display names!!

There was no post which asked for beta testers, Patchou hand picked them himself.

The old testers list was trashed due to the beta being leaked and now there is a new smaller list, which, as i stated before, was hand picked by Patchou. It conists of his most TRUSTED and LOYAL supporters.

well, i wanted to thank you for you work, msn plus! is great, in fact i dont have msn 6 because it cant have plus, and i will not have it untill its compatible..
msn plus is a great tool and i just love it, and i wantted to ofefer my self to translate to spanish.. i belive you have people to do it but if not, im there..

Apparently the Custom Name feature seems to frighten some people but the fact is that you can't force your contacts to see whatever you want in their contact list. However, as there is a point to changing its own name, your real name is displayed while you chat, the custom name is just displayed in the contact list.

As for translations, you'll be notified when everything is ready to be translated, which will probably be after the public beta release.

Gotta fix some bugs now... last note: if you haven't been an internal beta tester for this version it's probably because you didn't asked .

i was a huge fan of MSN plus, so got annoyed when it didnt work with Messenger v6! the other thing is, will a custom colors option b available? coz i used 2 use my own colour (#ffaa66) by editing the registry but since msn 6 publicly came out, the registry change made no difference, and other colour changing programs just dont work! i know u used 2 b able 2 select ur own color by pressing ctrl+k, but u'd av 2 do tht every time - so is there a way 2 get it set on one color permanently? i am talkin bout colors outside the usual 16-color pallette msn provides...

     It's great to know the release will be soon. It's a relief if anyone downloaded MSM 6.0, because msn plus! makes messenger the more fun and enjoyable to use. To bad my girlfriend will be leaving before it comes out, like the 4th. She'll be at school far away from computer land........Alas! Now, I can't use the kissing sound affect

     Anyways, I'm glad that Patchou is a person who cares about the people who uses his program; if it wasn't so, he would not take the time to answer our questions or consider our messenger needs. All what he has built for msn plus!, I see, was not for his personal needs only but that we also could find messenger more enjoyable.

     I am not a programer of any sort, but I use many programs and many programmers ignore the people who use their programs. Here, I see that this programmer cares to the extent that he'll make sure that everyone knows that his program is ligit.

     Really, he doesn't need to explain himself to anyone, but in my opinion, he wants everyone to know that plus! is an awsome experience. Like he said, it is freeware and people are free to download it and free not too.

     Anyways, I'm ready for the release. Heh, I am excited, and I can't imagine what is in store in this new plus! Take care all and God bless!

I believe the custom name thing is going to be gay. I'm not bashing Patchou or anything, just, well.. As said before the fact that someone can just give me any name they want takes away the whole concept of MSN adding the ability to have your own name. Also, say I wanted the name Vincent from FF7, and I have a Vincent avatar set in MSN 6.0, and a cool FF7 background. Now the people who have me named different will see the name they set with a Vincent avatar, taking the whole damn idea of personalized names, and avatars, away. Plus, if you hate people changing their names a lot and can't figure out who they are then why the F*CK do you have them added? If you don't know the e-mail you must not talk a lot? Okay. I've got nothing against Patchou, infact I think he's probably a decent person. I just don't like the custom name thing. And another thing; why is it that when a lot of people thought that he wasn't working on Plus! for 6.0, they were all like.. "omg patchou u let me down i want plus 4 6.0!!" YET, once they find out he's getting ready to release it.. "o i luv u man *bows to patchou* Fickle, I say. Either like him for who he is, or SHUT THE H3LL UP.

Omfg. "Billboards" Lmfao. They're there to see the people online, too see the names of your friends, not the names you give for them. If MSN wanted to add that feature they would, but they don't because they know people want their PERSONALIZED name whatever it may be seen. Who cares if it's a song? If you don't like that then don't have them added? I remember over 150 e-mails it isn't hard because I talk to them in places. I don't add just anyone who says, "Hi, add me so we can talk later" and then they never do.

well, firs of all, usa is not the only country, where do i go with this, in usayou meet people by internet, in chile we meet people in real life and stay in contact by msn, we are a lot more social than usa people, and i say so because i lived in usa..
so i have 150 contacts too, and i know every one of them, in fact, if i could have 300 i would, but and i would know every one of them, but must people chanche their nick for how they feel, or what they have done that day, so i have to learn every fucking mail, and they are no name and last name, sometimes is sknn83456@hotmail.com who is he?? so you chanche the display name and when you talk to him it sayis the nick he wants to show, so it womnt loose that avatar thing someone said..

well, the other one, that said about people like, o i hete you patchu because you havent work in the new msn and they say the oposit..

Yeah, I do know MSN Messenger 6.0 has such a feature, and I do know some guy made something, so the text is formatted like MSN Plus' log-files, but I prefer to have the files in .txt format AND they're splitted into months (yeah, just call me lazy, but if I'm not mistaken, everybody in-here except for Patchou is lazy!)... I just wanted to let Patchou know that there are many of us "newbies" who appreciate the work you do!  I really love the features and how it makes MSN Messenger sooo much better!
