I've added an installer, made by Choli (thanks!). Now it's easier to add it . (btw, you need VB6 runtimes i think, but most should have them by now, though if the programs gives you an error before it executes download them here. (if it gives you a runtime error when pressing a button or something post about it because it's probably a bug))

If you prefer to install the tab manually yourself, and know how to do it, check the xml code here.

That tab is the best!  *bows to GDF*  The only thing is that you can select the text, unlike the other tabs.  It's not really a problem.

I'm having difficulties at it. It won't show up, only the other tabs will. It seems like I have 10 tabs :/

Edit: works now. Since I had more than one person use my computer, msn inputted my configcache.xml in a random folder, with random numbers. Weird.

Yes, you can, you'll have to save the images that are linked to in the file where GFD referred to, and change the URLs in that file as well. Why do you want that? It's just loading and it shows up a few seconds later, why not?

It's easy: you can activate them by going to tools=> options => privacy @ the bottom of that menu you need to get the v before "this in an ....." away and go offline and back online.

My first few tries didnt work at first-   so i changed the font on my Notepad to something easier to read.. lol...     then I watched for how the other typical MSN tabs were arranged.

I just copy/pasted the entire html string( including the "<tab>" parts )   and made sure it was inserted in a uniform manner with the other msn tabs-- as though I hadnt tampered with anything .

It appears now..

Hmm... all the images are about 21.5 KB total... that's not too bad...

Maybe my crappy design could be the "lite" version... I made this before I knew GFD was making one...

Remove 2 news and put "Latest Versions" in tab by GFD, dont include Windows Messenger as it sucks and it will be dead, this is for sure after MSN 6 is released on 17th july.

i really like how Micro$oft has allowed us to make our own tabs, instead of using their boring ones, some of which aren't even compatible w/MSN6.  wow! that makes 2 good things Microsoft has done (WINXP and that!)

This is a great addition, I love to have a useful tab for once! What would be really great is if the news items opened in Messenger so you don't need to use the web browser. This would be the icing on the cake! And what a cake!

This does not work for me. i Put the code in the right spot.i copied and pasted everything correct.  Could it be because i have the WEED file installed with my MSN Messenger?

Are you sure you are adding it to the "MSN Messenger" folder inside "Program files" (or whatever it is called in your language) folder? It doesn't need to be of a specific size, just be in GIF format (not only extension) and be named "lvback.gif" (probably, case-sensitive).

Hell yeah the installer is here... I was having so much trouble modyfing the file that I gave up... Kudos to the developer and all who helped

try using .net framework like the neowin tab i think it went well and it was very user friendly and it offered a backup

Looks great... Is there a place where I can just paste the code in my file becuase Its much to sacred (I couldn't think of a better word ) for something to go wrong...

Go to THIS SITE some more tabs (Small hotmail [VERY HANDY!!!], Google, NeoWin). Tabs are including an installer. (site is in Dutch, but it's very clear how to download them). Note: "handmatig" means "manually" .

Nice. The hotmail one is an awesome idea. Seeing as I can't read Dutch I'll post a comment here and hope you'll read it. My only thing I'd suggest is if it was possible to make it even smaller for the sign in so you don't have to scroll. Or considering you ARE already logged into Messenger if it could auto-sign in just like clicking on the link for your hotmail the standard way in Messenger. Otherwise I love this tab!

I dunno, with me it signs in automatically... maybe you should check the "sign in automatically" box

The "About" page for the Plus! tab is kinda messed up, the words are not lined properly. Just letting you know

.net framework is a language and has nothing to do with the tab installer or its features, its just that it was developed with it. Plus, .net framework is about 20mb and most people still have to download it. Anyways, the Plus!tab installer makes a backup, i don't see in what aspect Neowin's is better or worse.

i'm tryng to solve it: i've changed again the ConfigCache.Xml and i change it to mmm Only Read (i don't know how windows say it in English, it's Solo Lectura). and i've removed the part of the file that says that the configuration expires in two days.

Maybe you should set it to 365 days.

One way to edit tabs is to get the tab editor prog from sherv.net. Im not sure if theres any other TAB Organiser progs out there...

in ConfigCache.XML find this line:

    <Config>
        <ExpiresInDays>2</ExpiresInDays>
    </Config>

Change than to 0, and tabs won't change any more

The installer should make that change automatically, so he probably has tabs hidden

Then apparently you are not changing the correct passport user.

Run the installer again and choose another number from the dropdown list.

It happened to me as well, you'll have to go to www.passport.com, login and change the country you live in to America. It worked for me .

um there is a goodies section on the msgplus.net website sumwhere with backgrounds and display pictures and shit, and also i cant get that to work when i save it as a gif it says "saving it into this format may cause some loss in colour formation" and it goes all munted up.

um there is a goodies section on the msgplus.net website sumwhere with backgrounds and display pictures and shit, and also i cant get that to work when i save it as a gif it says "saving it into this format may cause some loss in colour formation" and it goes all munted up.

Be sure an exit out of messenger after making the change,  by right-clicking the icon in your system tray and choosing "exit".  Then run Messenger again and it should work.

Well,  the first character in the file name is a lower-case L not an uppercase I.  They look the same with windows font. Make sure you don't have it as the uppercase I.


Also,  isn't C:\program files\messenger for windows messenger?  I'm not sure because I don't use XP.  But nonetheless,  it should be C:\program files\MSN Messenger

Well, i dont know how to make a tab installer, but at Mess.be you can find some tab managers that make it easy to add your own tabs...

MSN Messenger 6.1 does not have ConfigCache.XML at all...

well while we wait for this to be figured out may i suggest a latest plug-ins dealy in the tab..... i made one for it but it was just a link to the database and 6.1 doesnt work with it

For now you will have to put up with having the tabs that are part of the service. I am working on a tab manager for 6.1 but it isn't finished yet.

Unforunately you can't manually add your own tabs.

Oh. What do you mean by tab manager? Like, people have said the info is downloaded from the server, and stored into a file called ListCache.dat

Will the tab manager be decrypting that?

i'm using msn 6.1 and i applied the patch . the tabs only show on my @hotmail.com account (i have 2 accounts)

I think it's a program in which you can edit your tabs easily, like removing old ones, adding new ones, customising the order of the tabs...

There is no cache kept on the local machine any more, even though some people recon ListCache.dat stores a cache of it . Every single time MSN Messenger 6.1 is used it downloads it (from my server if you are using my service).

Actually, I did have the Neowin and MSN Fanatic tabs, until I started using MSN Messenger 6.1, and I sure did miss my custom tabs.

Patching doesn't work that way...

Before you can succesfully patch a file, you have to know what bytes you have to patch and where they are... (and afcourse into what)... This (location mostly, but what bytes also) can be different between file-versions...
