Here goes Windows Messenger 5 [Official Links inside from Microsoft] by Mnjul on 08-16-2003 at 03:01 AM

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger

The page hasn't been made "very publicly" as I see Microsoft hasn't announced Windows Messenger's debut. I found the news in betanews and went to Winbeta...and got this.

Personally I haven't installed it because of the language. Have fun with it though :D

p.s. If you want to know what's the difference between Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger...please search.

[edit]Could anyone confirm (not surmise) Plus!'s compatibility with this version?[/edit]

:@ on win 2000 u cant have windows messenger and msn messenger 6 installed at the same time, u can only have one of em

Messenger Plus (2.20) will not let me use Custom Names with Windows Messenger 5.0.

Only problem I've seen so far. Cannot tell if this is a bug, or an intentional limitation. It say I must use MSN Messenger 6 to get Custom Names to work.

RE: Here goes Windows Messenger 5 [Official Links inside from Microsoft] by Mnjul on 08-16-2003 at 08:12 AM

bspeight: If Windows Messenger 5 doesn't have a "sort contacts by e-mail address" function or it differs from MSN Messenger 6's one, it won't work...

I think Patchou should take a look into this...:)

Why a new version of Win Msg if it has less features than the current msn msg 6? nobody would install it :-/

I won't install if if it has less features or if :plus2: isn't compatible

RE: Here goes Windows Messenger 5 [Official Links inside from Microsoft] by Mnjul on 08-16-2003 at 11:18 AM

It has less feature, of course...so far I've heard that no dp, no ce, no launch sites...etc...

Here's a review from betanews:

This is taken from the windows messenger site, and my post on mess.be.

"Windows Messenger is the instant messaging client of choice for businesses in managed environments with connectivity to Exchange IM servers and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) based IM servers, along with connectivity to the MSN Messenger service."

The fact is it can connect to so many servers is its main feature. If you like games and messing with your mates, you dont want windows messenger. The point in removing its association with msn messenger.

btw... no more add-ins and no more checking e-mail through web based linkage. You gotta do it via an e-mail program. :/

Well this is easy to sort out.

all you need 2 do is Rename the folders in your Program Files folder to something like MSN messenger6 without it running. then install windows msg 5, I have done that with msn 6 & 4.7 & i have about 4 messenger versions installed 1.0, 3.6, 4.7 &  6.0

I'm downloading windows msg 5 now!

I agree, Win MSG is much cleaner and thinner than MSN is. I still use, and will continue to use WMSG because i hate the fluff on my computer.

Of course, zen minimalism is my style, so what do I know?

i might be installing this later. i'm VERY surprised that it now supports windows 2000.
