Rock paper scissors by Vaya on 12-18-2003 at 06:57 PM

Hi there.
I would like to be able to play this famous game with my friend over MSN (to put an end of some arguments etc.) :P

I have downloaded the required emoticons at mess.be : http://www.mess.be/pafiledb/pafiledb.php?action=download&id=296

Is there a way to make MSN count till 3 for me and my buddy? And mayby even choose a random emoticon of rock paper or scissors ? Or do we have to do all this manually?

EDIT: Maybe a countdown clock would be more useful... ? Is any of these things possible???

Please give me some advices.... and yes... im a 8-|

Regards
Vaya

Your an emoticon?.

Messenger can't count to three for you. So there's no real way of doing it..

RE: Rock paper scissors by The One on 12-19-2003 at 04:43 AM

Yeh that WOULD be a great idea.  I too have got the emoticons from mess.be but im not much of a programmer.  If I can find any info on what to do I will.  Till then,

Neo

Hey I just remembered something else - The Dice Roller

Why dont you just get that plugin from http://plugins.msgplus.net/down/?action=file&id=50 and use that instead?  It would work well.  I have it and its really good.

im moving this thread to the plug ins forums so maybe a plug in developer may want to create it :)

RE: Rock paper scissors by matty on 12-19-2003 at 06:09 AM

the only problem with this is the following...

the limitation to plugins with plus! is that you cannot code based on what the other user has typed , so there is no way of detecting what their choice was ,

lamens terms... plus! doesn't pass the recieved text to a variable to be coded on.

unless patchou has changed it... and im not aware , but him and I had a talk and i couldn't make my shut down program because of this limitation

RE: Rock paper scissors by optimism_ on 12-19-2003 at 08:08 AM

i think i might know how to do this :woot:
as long as someone said it coule be random

want me to try code one?

RE: Rock paper scissors by Vaya on 12-19-2003 at 08:42 AM

Oh yes optimism_

Please go ahead... You will receieve both glory and honor if you succeed. :$

RE: Rock paper scissors by dotNorma on 12-19-2003 at 03:53 PM

Ok , I think I could make it the cheap-o way.....like...

You hit "GO" and than you have 5 seconds to put the cursor in a convo and it sends 1 than enter , 2 than enter , 3 than enter. And now you would of had to tell the program the code for each of the three emoticons and than it chooses a random one and sends it. It might work this way as a stand alone app.

RE: Rock paper scissors by optimism_ on 12-19-2003 at 05:48 PM

The really crappy version:

[command]
/xrps

What it does. When you send this command, anyone in the conversation will automatically reply with RPSr RPSp or RPSs. These you should all map to custom emoticons for rock paper scissors respectively.

im sure u all know the rules of the game so i needn't explain that

[To install]
Extract the dll from this zip into your plugins directory and reboot.
Extract the 3 icons to anywhere you like, and add them as custom emoticons

RPSr -> the rock icon
RPSp -> the paper icon
RPSs -> the scissors icon

I will work on a more complex plugin later which in my mind will work like the word duel game built into messenger, but that is for later ;)

RE: Rock paper scissors by Sk3tch on 12-19-2003 at 06:23 PM

lol, that didnt take long :)

Very nice (y)

* Sk3tch installs it

RE: Rock paper scissors by optimism_ on 12-19-2003 at 09:44 PM

RE: Rock paper scissors by Vaya on 12-20-2003 at 12:01 AM

Optimism_ hereby receive both glory and honor as promissed.

I bet that a lot of people will be looking forward for the next RPS-version. :D

Thanks for taking you the time!

RE: Rock paper scissors by The One on 12-20-2003 at 09:52 AM

Hey i just got a new idea

Why doesnt someone just asked Koen from games.mess.be to make a rps game.  Then you can play it as a game, you select your choice, they select theirs (and neither of you know what the others is) and then it will show the results.  Im sure it wouldnt be too hard a game to program (but, as i said, i am no good at programming) and that would prob work really well.
