Forums Suggestion by chris on 01-25-2004 at 09:23 AM

Umm im not really sure how to explain this... like yea heres a suggestion for the area  were peoples usernames go so that if you got a long name it is only long on there post... see attached screen shot.. invision does it..

RE: Forums Suggestion by Muss on 01-25-2004 at 09:29 AM

instead of screwing up the entire page, it screws up one post?

Would be harder to notice (if it was with avatars) and might be less likely to be removed :P

Also, depends on if WDZ wants to do it or not :P

yea thats exaclty what it does... also it would be good for the usernames too :) and you dont even notice it till you got to that users post...

I like the idea. Some people have very long names without spaces and/or wide avatars and that makes all the page be ugly displayed...

RE: Forums Suggestion by musicalmidget on 01-25-2004 at 12:35 PM

I like the idea to. :)

Might it just not be as easy to restrict username lengths though?

and how many characters would the limit be?note that some characters like m take more space than others like i. And what about people already registered?
RE: Forums Suggestion by musicalmidget on 01-25-2004 at 01:52 PM

Well, I think the default limit is 20 characters, so maybe 15 would be wise.

I can't think of any existing members off the top of my head with more than 15 characters in thier name, but I think any limit imposed should only apply to new registrations not current members.

That's just my idea anyway. :)

Well, Fraisie, has a 21-characters nick PiratesOfTheCaribbean. I don't have anything against her nick, but it hasn't got any spaces and that makes the pages looking strange.
RE: Forums Suggestion by lizard.boy on 01-25-2004 at 05:45 PM

correct me if i'm wrong but right now the forum displays 1 100%width table right? its just a matter of making it so that each post is a table and that would make it so the even if somebody posts a 1024x768 screenshot on his/her post goes way off the right of the screen

RE: Forums Suggestion by saralk on 01-25-2004 at 06:31 PM

couldnt u just have a fixed width for the username column, that way, if the person has a really long username, then it will just take up multiple lines

RE: Forums Suggestion by lizard.boy on 01-25-2004 at 06:47 PM

thats how it is now i'm pretty sure but even with a fixed width a wide something (picture block of text with no spaces) could expand it

They will be limited after I upgrade. :p

They don't matter. :p Most have short names, and the ones who don't aren't active anymore.

That would make the HTML much more complex, and larger in size. It's not a very good idea, IMO. :^)

I think you're right.

I do. (A) I was reluctant to change it to something so long... :dodgy:
