McAfee bug by magazineforall.co.uk on 03-12-2004 at 03:51 PM

Hello,

I have just installed McAfee Internet Security Suite 6. My Msg plus has been working fine until this had been installed but there is now a bug that needs to be fixed with it.

I have MSG PLUS 2.54.74
MSN MESSENGER 6.1.0207
Windows 98 SE

The problem I have is when I sign into MSN I see the e-mails of my contacts not their display names. After a while I then get a message saying something along these lines

messenger plus cannot add it's functionalities due to a problem with some software you recently installed. I then click on the restart msn messenger and try to fix permantley. It then restarts and then the problem is fix - but as soon as I restart my computer again I have to do it again and so on.

So it'd be really good if this can be fixed :D

Thanks

I guess that it hapenns because you used the costum contact names, and Plus! wasn't working after you installed that program.
And that's why you got the message Plus! couldn't add its functionalities.

Contacts/Manage contacts/view contacts by

That will solve one.

Sometimes Plus! doesn't work with some programs related with Internet Security. This problem is similar with the IMsecure from ZoneLabs.

I don't know if the problem with IMSecure has been solved or not.
But I think WikingTOR has figured it out.

I'm just trying to give you an explanation. I'm sorry if it doesn't help.

There is a good chance that Privacy Service (if you chose to install it) in McAfee could be causing this...it has been known to interfere with a lot of internet programs...personally I think McAfee are a great company and make great software, anyone who reads my posts will know that, but I think Privacy Service can screw things up...so I'd advise uninstalling McAfee (be careful) and installing it again without Privacy Service

Thanks for both of your replies :D

Yes I have noticed that privacy service can conflict with quite a few programs - so I guess that maybe I should report this bug to McAfee - as privacy service is something that I do need to use.

Thanks for both your explinations I have a good idea now ;)
