WrestleMania® XX Results

The motto for WrestleMania XX was that the event was where it all begins … again. For Chris Benoit, he will always remember March 14, 2004 as the night were it simply all begins. He entered Madison Square Garden on Sunday as one of the greatest Superstars to ever enter the ring without holding the World Heavyweight Championship. By evening’s end, his journey was over and Benoit walked out of WrestleMania as the World Heavyweight Champion after a thrilling victory over Triple H and Shawn Michaels in the first-ever Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Fittingly, Benoit left no doubts as to who the best man in the ring was … his victory was sealed by forcing Triple H to tap out to the Crippler Crossface.

In a moment of powerful poetic justice, the first to congratulate Benoit was longtime-friend, Eddie Guerrero – who successfully defended the WWE Championship against Kurt Angle. Benoit and Guerrero in many ways shared the same journey with more than a decade of battling to make it to the top. The evening ended with both Champions side by side in the middle of the ring … a moment that should rest forever in the annals of WrestleMania history.

While it was Chris Benoit’s night, there will be plenty who will never forget WrestleMania XX – particularly John Cena. Cena defeated the Big Show to capture his first Championship – the United States Championship. Cena said he would pull out all of the stops to defeat the Big Show, and he did just that as it took a punch with his brass knuckles and a second FU in a row for Cena to score the win.

WrestleMania XX featured what could be remembered as several of the most dramatic moments in the history of this great event. As promised, the dead did rise again when the Undertaker made his return to World Wrestling Entertainment action to avenge his brother, Kane. Despite missing in-ring action for four months, it appeared as if the Dead Man did not skip a beat. After being led to the ring by Paul Bearer, Undertaker proceeded to gain the very measure of revenge he sought by falling Kane with a Tombstone Piledriver to improve his amazing WrestleMania career record to an unbelievable 12-0.

Speaking of drama, the much-anticipated match between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg was won convincingly by Goldberg, but he only won the battle … Stone Cold Steve Austin won the war! Austin called the match right down the middle as promised, but he also lived up to another promise when he exacted revenge on both men. First, Austin gave Lesnar a Stone Cold Stunner after Lesnar tried to disrespect both the Madison Square Garden crown and Austin himself. Soon afterwards, while Austin and Goldberg enjoyed a beer bash, Austin gave Goldberg a Stunner as well. Weeks after falling victim to a Spear and an F-5, it appears as if Austin picked the biggest possible stage to get the last laugh.

Also, Trish Stratus was responsible for one of the most shocking moment of the evening when she threw a twist into the love triangle between herself, Christian and Chris Jericho. After running to the ring to seemingly defend Jericho, but causing a distraction that led to Jericho’s defeat, Stratus stunned the Madison Square Garden crowd by revealing her affections for the very man who tried to injure her on RAW weeks ago. It appears as if Stratus and Christian are now an item as the two stood over Jericho after Christian knocked him out and then enjoyed a kiss, much to Jericho’s chagrin!

With all of the drama and intensity, WrestleMania XX will perhaps be remembered as the night of Benoit as the new World Heavyweight Champion begins a new era standing on top of the mountain. However, Benoit’s defense will begin in a hurry as RAW stays in the New York City area and will take place at the Continental Airlines Arena less than 24 hours after his victory. What will Benoit have to say? Will anybody step up to challenge the newly crowned Champion? What will be the other fallout from WrestleMania? Only one way to find out … watch RAW at 9/8 CT on Spike TV!

by Anubis on 03-15-2004 at 07:05 PM

I try and be tollerant and keep an open mind about peoples interests. Where as I don't like Wrestleing because of the crappy plots that look like they'd entertain people with the interlectual capacity of a lemon I can't say they're much to enjoy. You want something with a good plot go watch an award winning TV show...

by Wabz on 03-16-2004 at 01:49 PM

how does that make sense............and arnt scotty and rakishi already the title holders ?
The World Tag Team Championship is the "official" title,  Thw WWE Tag Team Championship was the title created by Steph when she was GM of SmackDown so that the teams on SD had something to fight for.  The same way that there is now the WWE Championship, which was created as a Smackdown version of the World Heavyweight Championship.

Actually no she didn't make it up, the belts are from WCW and when they split the rosters they had tag team turmoils for the belts on both Raw and Smackdown.

by _Humphreys on 04-29-2004 at 06:50 PM

Sorry bit late but the WWF changed to the WWE becuase The world wildlife fund claimed they owned that name first which they did so they took the world wrestling federation to court and won so they changed they name to WWE.
