where did "location" go? by lopardo on 03-17-2004 at 03:52 AM

What happened with "location" under the avatars? :)

RE: where did "location" go? by WDZ on 03-17-2004 at 03:59 AM

What??

It was never shown there... maybe you're getting this mixed up with another board? ^o)

RE: where did "location" go? by Chrono on 03-17-2004 at 03:59 AM

it 'dissapeared (:dodgy:) a long time ago.
Not really related to the last upgrade.
It should be added back!

Edit: WDZ, it was there long time ago (when we were on devbb :refuck: )

It was never in MyBB, was it? It may have been in DevBB... :-/

We already have posts, age, sex, joined, status, reputation... getting kinda crowded. :p
RE: where did "location" go? by lopardo on 03-17-2004 at 04:01 AM

Well, I just noticed it now :P

Agree with Chrono, it should be added back :)

EDIT: Damn, you're fast! :)

RE: where did "location" go? by Chrono on 03-17-2004 at 04:04 AM

yes u are right :P
i just checked some of my screenshots () and the location was there when we were on devbb, but dissapeared after the upgrade to mybb :P
it would be nice to have the locations visible here. its annoying to check profiles :dodgy: (remove the silly reputation thingy that we aint using yet and put locations instead )

RE: where did "location" go? by WDZ on 03-17-2004 at 04:11 AM

Well, currently users can enter a long string such as "City, State, Country, Continent, Planet" and I'm certainly not going to allow all that to be shown next to posts. :p

What would be better is a standard list of countries that the user can select from... and then maybe integrate the little flags as well. Maybe the flag could be shown instead of the country name... that would look kinda crappy though. :-/

RE: where did "location" go? by Chrono on 03-17-2004 at 04:16 AM

:blah!: @ flag. would look crappy with this theme :P
just put a limit of X characters so people wont put such long locations :P

RE: where did "location" go? by lopardo on 03-17-2004 at 04:17 AM

Blah, just limit the text to 10 chars or something ;)

EDIT: Are you reading my mind, Chrono?

But the long locations are good when you're viewing a profile... :P I'd rather just cut (truncate) the string to a certain length when it's displayed next to a post. I still think there's already enough crap next to posts though... ^o)
RE: where did "location" go? by Chrono on 03-17-2004 at 04:24 AM

if u remove the reputation thingy, u wont be using more space :P
And about truncating.. :undecided: ... how many characters would u like to display?

But we're going to use the reputation feature... as soon as I can be bothered to set it up. :p

Uhh... 26. :p The avatar caption maximum length is 36, but we have to allow for "Location: ".

RE: where did "location" go? by sock on 03-17-2004 at 06:24 AM

Central Israel = 14 chars

I think it's not a bad idea. :p I also think that small flags would look nice. :p

RE: where did "location" go? by Johnny_Mac on 03-17-2004 at 07:00 PM

The Flags! :o :p

I'm not sure about putting location on. I think it looks kinda crappy. Esp if you can type anything in. :undecided:

RE: where did "location" go? by musicalmidget on 03-17-2004 at 09:06 PM

I don't really think a persons location really needs to be added to the side of their posts.  Afterall, what's so hard about just clicking the profile button to see a users location, if you really want to know it. :p

As for the flags, I've seen similar things on other forums and in my honest opinion they just make the page look ugly.  Besides, there are that many countries you would need a whole load of small flags. :-/

That already exists from the first DevBB we had when WDZ added them. :P

In that case, ignore my last comment. :p

I still don't like them though.
RE: where did "location" go? by CookieRevised on 03-18-2004 at 10:12 AM

Don't like it iether. As said before, it doesn't bring anything valueble to the posts. If I wanna know who's from what country, I'll check the profile...

RE: where did "location" go? by azn angel on 03-18-2004 at 11:15 AM

hey but isnt reputation kidna pointless, because the really important people already have that caption above the stars...
and it does look crowded around there

RE: where did "location" go? by CookieRevised on 03-18-2004 at 01:40 PM

everything says (or should say) something about the quality of the posts the person makes. (except the gender). The reputation isn't working yet, but it is going to be implemented eventualy. The stars and title have nothing to do with reputation but with postcount.
