Canadian Internet Service Providers by EvilSeph on 05-14-2004 at 12:02 AM

Hi all :),

I've just been wondering as to which Canadian ISP is the best and why. So far my choices are Rogers and Sympatico because I am certain that their services are available in Ontario/Mississauga.

This won't be like my usual long posts, I'm getting straight to the point. So please, if you can and if you have had any experience with any DSL/Cable ISP in Canada that operates in Ontario/Mississauga (Mississauga is better..) and provides good services, no bandwidth caps, no restrictions/little restrictions etc..

Thanks,
EvilSeph

Can't say I have because my local ISP gives me 1.5 mbps cable lines.

Although I recommend Rogers.

The below is offtopic

Where can I find that unblocking program? People have been asking for it for a while (about 3 hours:P).

Telus has 1.5 mbps connection, but only 1 IP per account. (I have Telus)

Shaw is slower, but provides multiple IP's and more account options.

i'm on sympatico, and its very good (mostly).

they don't have a bandwidth cap on w/e plan were on.

but make sure u live close to the station, because we're technically out of range, and it can be slow sometimes

I like my local ISP!

No caps, multiple IPs and 1.6 mbps line!

O ya!

Yea, i used to have Shaw, it isn’t the greatest but meh...
I’m using Cablerocket atm.. yes 'cable' which isn’t very good at all..

I think though that im going to be getting Telus soon, as they have a better rep from what I’ve heard :-/

As long as your fine with 1 IP, they're prety good ;) I'm happy with them.

Cost is also a factor too..please respond, I really want the best, cheapest (but not overly cheap, because I want quality) package from a Canadian ISP.

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by .blade// on 05-14-2004 at 01:13 AM

Telus and Shaw area bout the same price. (Aprox) $40/month with a DSL modem rental, $35/month if you already bought the modem. I don't know if they still have the deal, but when I bought my modem, both Telus and Shaw gave you a $70 credit on your bill for buying the modem.

Rogers is good without a router! with router... stick with sympatico high-speed... but i HATE the dial-up dialog...

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by Concord Dawn on 05-14-2004 at 01:24 AM

Well, Aurora's ACI give you a 1.6 mpbs line, multiple IP's, mail account, support for about $40.

My friend's dad works for a promo company which has clients like M$, Nintendo, etc., so he gets everything early. Right now, he's trying out a 4 mbps line from a company he says he "can't tell me" :dodgy:

* .blade// wants to take the connection from his friend by force!!!

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by Concord Dawn on 05-14-2004 at 03:27 AM

You don't need a line that fast, no one else will be able to transfer data that fast.

Cogeco seems to have a download and upload cap..if I recall correctly, I'm not currently on their site researching, I was yesterday.

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by CodeChaos on 05-14-2004 at 08:02 PM

I use Sympatico.

I get 120kbp/s on it.

But since i'm on my old computer and the connection is on another line without the filters, i'm getting 30kbp/s.

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by Banks on 05-15-2004 at 10:56 PM

I got eastlink and they're all right, I wanted aliant (I think that's sympatico) but they're service is pretty horrible, they said they were going to upgrade our lines for DSL in 2 weeks and it's been 3 years and no aliant truck came yet.

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by lizard.boy on 05-15-2004 at 11:08 PM

i'm on rogers and its ok because its on the same biill as our cable and cell phones but i only get like 90 kbs connection

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by Concord Dawn on 05-16-2004 at 02:15 AM

I still suggest rogers or sympatico, but nothing beats ACI!!

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by LunarCrisis on 05-23-2004 at 03:45 AM

or wou could try DSL.ca

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by sasquatch on 05-23-2004 at 06:21 AM

I get Telus and Shaw =)
and i'm pretty sure telus gives 2 IPs, just need to register the MAC address of second router/computer

with telus, i'm pretty far from the CO so my connection has bout a 300 kbps limit

There's no1 with cable in my neighbourhood so my speed with Shaw is a whole lot faster at bout 800-900 kbps

As for prices, if u get cable, shaw has nice packages, if u use Telus for long distance, there's packages, if u have neither, its pretty much the same but Shaw gives 70 MB of webspace for free =D while Telus has 10 MB but this is only for Alberta since i dun there's Shaw in B.C. or Saskatchewan and Telus is only in AB and BC with sum limited stuff in Ontario

RE: Canadian Internet Service Providers by ForbiddenGentleman on 05-23-2004 at 10:20 PM

Hey,

For Shaw if you upgrade to the Dosis 2.0 Modem you'll get 3000/512 for $40. If you pay $10 more it's 5000/1000. I get 4900/985 up :D I'm a happy camper. You'll have to call & ask for the Motarola Suf 5100.

We had Execulink which stunk, went to Sympatico which was fine until they capped the ul/dl and checked into MNSI which had no cap. I just got my own this past week with Rogers but my mother still uses MNSI so you could check into that and it's reasonable cost wise.
