    I'm using MP3 on my computer running win98(first edition). I can tell you it does work with 98. I have encountered a few bugs but nothing major. Maybe try a reinstall, if you haven't already. I wish I could tell you more.

                          Cheers,  hazey

Try other things too like Personalized Status, Logging, Renaming Contacts, etc... The things you describe are all related too one configuration panel in Meesenger Plus!, so make sure the following is enabled (ticked):

Plus > Preferences > Instant Messages > Command & Tags
-> Allow the use of commands and tags
-> Allow Sound Commands
-> Enable multi-format IRC style shortcuts
