Spell Check plugin?? by djkoe on 05-28-2004 at 12:12 PM

Hello,
i had an idea of a spell checker for msn messenger,
well i am not that good with visual basic or c++ e.t.c. so i was wondering if someone could.?
some functions:
Make own wordlist (with learn function with every word that you type in msn that it inserts that word in the wordlist.)
choose of functions: 1. Off 2. Learn mode 3. automaticly check 4. ask

and more...
who can make this for me?? (i think it would be a succes...)

It has been done: http://www.interactivegt.com/spellcheck_ss.htm. Of course, major disadvantages: it doesn't seem to work with MSN Messenger 6, and isn't free.

Yeah, shame it isn't free :P even more that you can't use it on 6x

Hmm...  im bet there is a way you could use MSWord to spell check the content of the text..  *-)  which wouldn't be too hard to make a Plus! plugin..
RE: Spell Check plugin?? by MC Inferno on 05-28-2004 at 01:23 PM

Isn't the spell checker already on Msg. Plus!3? :S

RE: Spell Check plugin?? by Tochjo on 05-28-2004 at 01:35 PM

Nope, definitely not ;)
You should know what features are available :p

Excuse me, where did we say we took requests?
If nobody replied, then that most likely means nobody can or wants to make it :-/
RE: Spell Check plugin?? by Millenium_edition on 05-29-2004 at 04:55 PM

RE: Spell Check plugin?? by Millenium_edition on 05-29-2004 at 06:32 PM

Can't that be already done with Plus' word filter?

You just have to get that list into Plus, though...
RE: Spell Check plugin?? by aNILEator on 05-29-2004 at 11:34 PM

anyone know where that list is then??:S

It wouldn't be hard... in fact it would be pretty easy, you wouldn't be able to check it without a command /spell ect.. and you would have to have another window for spelling correction/errors ect..
You.. wouldn’t need to load the list if you just imported the text.. blah i know what i mean :P

Anyways.. its possible if someone is willing to make it :P

The tick options at the top are wonderful, but they cant be done by using word filter. :(

I've got the list in a word document, but it's too big to attach to this and I don't have a host, anyone feel like sticking it on their site if I e-mail it to em?

Nevermind, zipping it compressed more than I thought.

Ah yeah, true, I was talking about the word replacement.

BTW, ddunk, I think you are able to attach more than 500kb here.
RE: Spell Check plugin?? by ddunk on 05-30-2004 at 05:56 AM

It gave me a limit of 250 :S, either way, can anyone think of a way of  to integrate the autocorrect into Plus! ?

Well, let's break this up:

Words list autocorrect:
This can already be implemented into Plus with the word filter. Maybe someone can just make a .reg file to import all those MSWord words into Msgplus.

It can't be put into Plus out of the box, because that list is only for English.

Also could be done in a plugin, but recoding the whole word filter is stupid.

Somebody, make that a .reg :)

Autocorrect options (capitalise, etc.)
This would be very useful, and I think it could be made as a plugin as well. If patchou implemented it (without the days/months things because of multilanguage), it would be great anyway :P.

RE: Spell Check plugin?? by WDZ on 05-30-2004 at 06:50 AM

Cool list!

I felt like having some fun with it, so I converted it to a .reg file that can be imported into MsgPlus.

Instructions
1. Download and unzip the attachment.
2. Open the AutoCorrect.reg file in a text editor (Notepad should do) and use the find/replace feature to replace "me@example.com" with your address.
3. While you're replacing, you might want to change the dodgy MS Word apostrophes (ASCII 146 ?) with regular ones (ASCII 39 ').
4. Exit Messenger (I dunno if it's necessary, but probably safer).
5. Merge contents of the edited AutoCorrect.reg into your registry (double-click file or right-click and select "Merge").
6. Restart Messenger and check the Plus! Preferences to see if the strings were imported successfully.

Warnings
- This is experimental. Use it at your own risk. I have tested the importing, but have not sent any test messages because I don't have any contacts online. :-/
- Update: Some other users have confirmed that it works good, so don't be too afraid to use it. :p
- Back up your MsgPlus! settings before trying this. All existing word filter strings will be overwritten.

Update: New version released; fixed a bug that created a blank entry.

PHP is more powerful and flexible than some people think... you can use it for things that have nothing to do with the web. :p
RE: Spell Check plugin?? by djkoe on 05-30-2004 at 10:50 PM

OK but this has some bugs,
1. it wont install on my pc (odd...)
2. it isnt like you type /spell on or /spell off
3. you can't download word files and implant that becouse im dutch :P
4. it also replaces like if you have: ilf replaced by if then when you have a word that contains ilf like the word milf or some than it replaces it also so it becomes mif.
5. no installation or some.
6. no expansion possibilities.

i can make some wordfiles (maybe get it from some ppl) but the main thing is that the plugin should be created and i don't think that that should be so hard for a plugin creator? who makes that plugin stuff, stand up and call!

Its not a plugin, its a Word Filter list, so you can send the text and if you misspelled something it should get corrected..

Then, edit that word out ;)

Actually, it is an installation in itself :P This is not a plugin or program, and that is not a 'bug' :P

...isn't a bug either :P.. and you can 'expand' the list all you like :)

If you want more info, contact WDZ via PM :P.. or post here of course..

Excellent work WDZ...although I really wish there were some way to turn it on or off...maybe a plugin would be good.

RE: Spell Check plugin?? by WDZ on 05-31-2004 at 03:49 AM

Of course a customizable plug-in would be much better... you'll have to find someone else to make that though. :p

This "spell checking" system is extremely simple and limited... don't expect much from it.

RE: Spell Check plugin?? by Willtard on 05-31-2004 at 07:53 AM

A bon enttendeur salut.

:^)

There's still manual work involved, and the script isn't very "polished." I'd have to write up instructions, worry about problems that people might have with it, etc. :-/

So, no. :p Maybe someday I'll do more work on the script then host it here so you can just upload a Word file, and the script will spit out a reg file. I wasn't planning on supporting this "project" for much longer though... it was just a little experiment. :p
RE: Spell Check plugin?? by Mushroom_Man on 06-01-2004 at 06:26 PM

Maybe we could add a space to the beginning and end of each word to stop 'milf' becoming 'mif'?

I know that wouldn't work for the first and last words in your message, as well as anything followed by a comma, but it might be better...

In the reg file? I don't see "ilf"... :-/ :p

I'm not even sure how the Plus! word filter works... does it simply do a string replace, or is there some logic behind it? :dodgy: The change log doesn't help much... this is interesting though...
quote:
You can add a star at the beginning or at the end of a filter. For example, "uni*" will filter "uni", "university", ...
I know none of the autocorrect strings contain stars though. :-/

Even more interesting is this...
quote:
A separate option has been added in the Import/Export wizard for word filters. This allows you to share your filters with other people.
Doh! :p I should have made a *.pld file instead of a *.reg file... :-/
RE: Spell Check plugin?? by Mushroom_Man on 06-02-2004 at 12:30 AM

I was just posting that as an example that we had before - but having said thatinoticed that it doesn't just do a strig replace - otherwise all my 'i's would have been capitalised.

RE: Spell Check plugin?? by djkoe on 07-13-2004 at 11:13 PM

okay, so everybody thinks its a very good idea, who is gonna make a plugin? becouse to make it real, we should make a plugin, and the only thing i can program is php :P
