hey guys i got some weird idea in my mind that could i host a forum from my home computer. I am using windows xp professional and also having high speed upload.

how about making a forum from PHP.

for hosting what i need to put on my computer?

u well need a server applaction, apache is the most common, php and mysql
can be found at http://www.apache.org/ http://www.mysql.com/ http://www.php.net/

well you need web server software - like apache
you need php and mysql (runtimes i think, dunno how it's called) installed, dunno where to get it
and the .net framework would be good too ;)

so that means i need to install apache, php and SQL

i am trying to make forum from PHPBB, and that scripts needs to run on SQL. so can i make SQL server on windows xp? if yes how... i tried installing SQL thing before but can't figure it out..

show me the way if possible

installing apache and mysql is a complacated process, if u dont want to set them up separatly u can get an installer that installs apache perl php mysql and more with all the nessicary setting already configured.  apache2triad and easyphp are some but there are more

First you need to install Apache, then you have to install MySQL and afterwards PHP. On their sites you can find how to install all of them.

i've heard that windows xp IS NOT good for running an webserver off of. win 2000 is supposed to be the best consumer os of window.. unless you can get windows server
