Install Error by Sully on 06-04-2004 at 02:05 PM

Hey all,

Nothing is going well for me at all. I cant install the latest updated of MSN Messenger or MSGPlus!.

I downloaded the MSGPlus! update from your site (v301) and when I try launch the installer it I get this error:

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Tried re-downloading it. Still the problem has occrued. I can install v300 fine however.

All help appreciated!

anything else in the error? That's weird, because (as long as I know) nothing has been changed in the setup program from 3.00 to 3.01. Maybe the setup you're downloading is corrupted. Try to download from a mirror and/or clean the cache before download.
RE: Install Error by Sully on 06-04-2004 at 05:54 PM

OK well I re-downloaded it, and when it trys to install I get this notification:

Access on disk is denied or the setup package is corrupted.

Here are the common ways to solve the problem:
* Log-on with administrator prvilages
* Install in a different directory.
* Restart your computer.
* Download the setup package from a different source.

Suggestion 1: I am an admin on the PC.
Suggestion 2: Tried that, same error.
Suggestion 3: Ill try that now but I doubt thats the problem
Suggestion 4: You serious? It takes me AGES to download the update on my 56K Modem. Driving me mad cause I downloaded MSN Messenger (5mbs :() and I got an error to. Besides, this is my 2nd attempt to get it working and re-downloaded it twice.

Please help!

lol Cheers.

stupid question, but just in case: do you have enough free space in your hard disk?

also try to install from a different directory. Copy the setup of plus to another folder and try again.

I'm sorry about that, but dunno what your problem can be.

Iv plenty of free space! Tried installing from a different directory, failed. And I cant uninstall previous versions. Just says it "cant at this moment"!

RE: Install Error by Hah on 06-04-2004 at 06:55 PM

Could it be anything to do with that Adaware software or SpyBot software mistaking the MsgPlus! install for spyware or corrupting old uninstallers??

Have you tried reinstalling MsgPlus! 2 and uninstalling, then proceeding to install MsgPlus! 3?

Also, make sure that there are no versions of messenger (or windows messenger) running at the time of install (although the installer should terminate them).

Ok, pushing the boat out a little but im guessing your stuck for ideas...do you have any kind of file protection software which could be locking the files inside the plus or msn directorys(for MSN installs i mean)?

Good luck,

Hah

Nope, Ad-Aware has nothing wrong with it.

Ill try that.

Tried that, failed.

My firewall and AV perhaps but they said nothing...

RE: Install Error by Sully on 06-06-2004 at 05:54 PM

I think this is a problem with my system in general and not MSGPlus cause a numerous amount of programs wont install.

Any good computer techies around? :P

RE: Install Error by Patchou on 06-06-2004 at 06:18 PM

I suggest you to uninstall Plus! (in Add/Remove programs), restart your computer and try again to install version 3.01. There's no reason it wont work this time :).

RE: Install Error by Sully on 06-07-2004 at 04:24 PM

As I said: I tried that :P And in my previous post I have a numerous amount of programs that also wont install! So I think its a problem on my system. Any suggestions?

Oh and I can install the previous version of MSGPlus but not the latest. Same with the older version of MSN Messenger, but not the latest. I cant install other programs such as SpyBot Search and Destroy. Seems a system error??

virus

RE: Install Error by Sunshine on 06-08-2004 at 08:32 AM

Do a scan with this an see if u can install after that.

Avert stinger direct download: http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe

Avert stinger infopage: http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

This lil prog does not need installing and can be used alongside ur regular virusscanner :)

RE: Install Error by Dev on 06-14-2004 at 12:29 AM

I tried the virus scanner. It doesn't work. No virus found.

I think the problem is in the Services running.

Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services.

One of the services is making it not work ... I don't know which one.

RE: Install Error by Axy on 06-14-2004 at 06:14 AM

This happened to me too... But for me it worked again when I installed the 2.74.75 patch and Messenger 6.2...:)

RE: Install Error by illuzn on 06-14-2004 at 06:44 AM

Its probably a corrupt registry or core windows file... if your running windows xp/2003 you can try that system file restore thingo or whatever its called... although this problem sounds bad and it might just take a reformat to fix it..

RE: Install Error by Sully on 06-18-2004 at 06:28 PM

It sounds like a re-format alright. Even Dell Customer Support cant figure it out! System Restore - go back how far should I? Dunno when it last worked! The thing is, I can install some older programs with the installer i have on my PC but not new versions.
