WMP9 Ripping to MP3?! by lylesback2 on 06-09-2004 at 12:13 AM

how can you rip a CD into an MP3, not a WMA... cause i ripped a few of my own CD's and it saved them as WMA... which i didnt notice.  I tried to put them into my MP3 player and it only plays .MP3's not .WMA's

i assume u'r using Windows media player.

Unfortunately, WMP doesn't natively support ripping to MP#, because it costs money to get a license to do that. if you are dedicated to WMP< then there are a number of plugins you can get, which will cost you about $10 US.  to do that,  go to tools> Options> copy music> and in the "copy settings" section, click the link to learn about MP# encoding.

for a free alternative, MusicMatch Jukebox Basic will encode MP3s. as will Apple's iTunes. I personally prefer iTunes, but i have an iPod. However, i have nothing against MMJB, except they keep pushing their payed version, whereas iTunes is 100% free (as in beer) ;)
