Log audio chats...? by T-PO on 06-11-2004 at 12:20 PM

Hello everybody,

I'm quite new to this forum and to the MSG Plus application and I like it very much...

I almost can not believe this is the work of only one person!! GREAT JOB, Patchou!!

I have a question.

I see that MSG Plus has a very extensive way of logging chats.

I almost only chat using a microphone and not using the keyboard at all...

I would like to know if it is possible to log audio chats?

And if not, will this ever be possible?

Thanx for your attention,

Regards,

T-PO

No, currently, it's impossible to log audio or videoconference chats. I don't think this will be included in Plus (at least in the near future versions of Plus). If you want to record audio chats, I'd suggest you to use a program to record sounds. There are sure lots of those kind of programs... pick up the best that suits your needs ;)

btw, welcome to the msg plus forums

I think this has been suggested before...but the size of the audio files were that main drawback, even if they were compressed using a codec they'd still be large if you use voice chatting a lot and have a small HDD.
The idea that I would like the most would be a Speech recognition program that logs the words to a .txt file...they are now a lot of very good voice recognition engines, however I doubt this will be included in Plus! for economic and legal reasons mainly

i guess somebody could create a plugin for this.. but really, the voice logs in text would be weird. a program putting every little sound into words lol...

I very much doubt a plugin could do it...

I don't quite get you, voice recognition software has been around for years doing this, over the last 2 years its been very reliable so I don't see any problem...

yeah i guess, but think of this situation.. 2 low quality mics talking through 56.6k... and a plugin, really, why couldnt it? you could make a plugin do quite a bit if you were smart enough, and had the time and resources.

I suppose you could try getting an audio editor such as Goldwave - www.goldwave.com and setting it up to record from Stereo Mix just before you're audio conversation, and then saving the output to mp3 or any other format. It would be cool if somebody developed a plugin to do this automatically though.

I place  my vote for the "log audio chats plug in "
I don't see why its not possible or useful
(if you have have a small hdd or any other reason not to use it, you could  deactivate it)

For me it would be great to log the audio chats (mp3 please)
So great that i even can pay for it
Thanks

...this would be weird if you logged it as text, because it would be hard (or impossible, wiat maybe ytheres programs) but, what if you did a sigh or some funky sound, it wouldnt understand what you're trying to say :S

Um, just my personal input :P i wouldnt use it, because whenever i have audio conversations people are too shy to talk and all you hear is the keyboard tapping away.

So you say you have a lot of audio conversations...it would really start to build up on space on your computer:S
