when I chat with other people and write  ":.)" (without the ".") the ugly smilie comes instead.
And I dont want this :\

If I choose not to show emoticons or what it's named, I cant see other peoples "smilies" + they will see a when i write ":.)".

You could use the Plus! Word Filters.

And replace : ) with = )

Then you could use the code your used to but still show a smiley.. The smiley is a bit different though.

why may people not see your emoticons but you can see theirs? .

When you go to Tools > Show emoticons in conversations or whatever, they dont see the emoticon either... someone i talk to doesnt use them and they type :) and i see it like that aswell, no graphic...
