Please help with my laptop! by tbone2584 on 06-16-2004 at 07:06 PM

First post! (H)

Anywho...Alright, on my laptop, I have volume control buttons on the side to control the volume up/down. When i click the volume up/down, I used to get a display on the screen showing how much volume i am going up/down with green bars going across the bottom not unlike a tv. Anyways, somehow I seemed to have stopped these green bars from appearing when I volume up or down. I can still change the volume with these buttons but i no longer see the volume bars.

If there is anyone that could help me out with this with any info on fixing this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! (Y)

Welcome to the forums, tbone2584
Now to your question...
Can you try reinstalling your graphic card driver?
Because i had the same problem after formatting and installing my graphic's card driver worked.
I guess you also cant go to standby mode, can you?

Actually, now that you mention it, I do think i had a problem the other day going into standby mode. Hmmm, interesting. Anyways, I like to think I know what I am doing with computers but just to make sure about re-installing the graphic card driver...could you please explain about how i would go about doing that?

Who is the manufacturer of the laptop. If it is a specific brand like HP/Compaq, Dell, etc. You will want to check their website for updates first.

On Newer HP/Compaq Computers there is a feature in the Control Panel > Keyboards it says like Buttons at the top or something I am pretty sure you can control the display from there.

Yeah, I have an HP. I went to the control panel and opened the keyboard controls. There was a tab at the top for On Screen Display and there was a check box for volume control on screen so i checked it and now it works. I really have no idea how it got turned off but that doesnt matter now, its on. Thanks guys for your help!(Y)
