Word Filtering by reisyboy on 06-17-2004 at 10:57 AM

Oki using the word filters i have seen that it doesnt like certian characters.

Espically Astericks ****.

As you know i make a fair few mistakes (i am getting better) but when i make them i put

**** [Correction here]

And its works great. So i thourght i want to put a word filter so when i put **** word filter makes it

>>>Correction <<< : [Correction here]

Just looks abit more fancy....

However im not sure why but Plus! really doesnt like this...

>>> Correction <<<: >> Correction <<<: TEST

It displays two. I think its because for * you need four as a minimum and the first two are recognised twice, but im not sure. Just an thourght..... anyway just thourght id tell you.

MSN Messenger 6.2 (latest)
Plus! 3.01 (Latest)

I've tested the filter "****" > "test" in sent direction and work right, it doesn't put test twice.

maybe because the * is used to match any word that starts and/or ends with the other part of the filter.

I've noticed that the filter **** can filter an even number of * like in ****** or ******** and it puts test, but an odd number of * like in ***** or ******* gives test*

If i put the filter "*****" > "test" in sent direction (5 *) similar things happen, but it sometimes gives test* or even test**.

There should be a scape character for *

RE: Word Filtering by lylesback2 on 06-17-2004 at 05:09 PM

recieving needs to be the same number of characters for it to change

example:
hello = *****
hi = **
lylesback2 = **********

and not

hello = **********
hi = **********
lylesback2 = **************

too many it should auto-correct

Ill try to explain it a little better.
Well its in the sent directions and if i type

**** What

Because i always mistype what i get the h in the wrong place.

It should be

>>> Correction <<< : What

shown shouldnt it? (But insted its showing
>>> Correction <<< : >>> Correction <<< : What)

Im sorry if ive got confused here. Maybe im missing something :-/

Choli is right, the bug probably comes from the fact that * is normally used to filter "anything". However, it still shouldn't produce the bug you'Re experiencing, I'll check it out and fix it.

sorry, i was going to post that when i accidentally closed the browser window ( :blah: ) and i had to rewrite all that again, so some expanations were a bit dodgy. I had to have said the word wildcard. It would have done things easier. :)
