Messenger Plus and Messenger 6.2 by DazedandConfused on 06-24-2004 at 11:35 PM

Has anyone had this same problem. I updated MSN Messenger to 6.2 and since then my Messenger Plus 2 doesn't work. I updated my Messenger Plus to 3 and now I can't get it uninstalled and it gives me an error that it never installed peoperly but it came up that it did install right when it finished installing.

Any suggestions?

Hum... the problem youre experiencing seems weird. Did you try uninstalling MEssenger Plus! from the Add/Remove Program panel? I suggest you uninstall Messenger Plus!, restart your computer and reinstall Messenger Plus!.

I did that and it never worked. I finally got it to uninstall but now when I tried to reinstall it, it isn't compatible with MSN Messenger 6.2. Do you have one that is compatible?

I also get error 0x8100301 AND I know why.

I used Spybot to search my P.C. as I do all the time. Having not realised I had installed SPYWARE with MSN Messenger Plus! 3 (believing the agree statement was a EULA) I removed the spyware from my P.C.

However, if you remove the spyware with an automated tool (Spybot, Adaware etc...) it damages Winsock BEYOND REPAIR.

P.S. Happy Belated Canada Day Patchou (From a fellow Canadian). ;)

I have the same problem here.

After installing the newest version of Plus (3.1), it doesn't work with MSN MEssenger 6.2. Plus version 2 worked just fine.

Plus 3.1 now won't let me uninstall it from the Add/Remove Programs (a popup comes up saying something in the lines of "Plus wasn't installed properly. Please reinstall"). Tried to reinstall, again doesn't work. Note that I had never installed the sponsor program, and still I have the problem.

The only possible solution for me was to delete the files and registry entries manually.

PATCHOU, could you give some guidelines on manual uninstallation?

RE: Messenger Plus and Messenger 6.2 by matty on 07-03-2004 at 01:48 PM

To reinstall Winsock and your TCP/IP follow these steps.

Reinstalling Winsock:

Start > Run > type regedit *click ok*
Click the + Beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Click the + Beside System
Click the + Beside CurrentControlSet
Click the + Beside Services
Delete The Keys for Winsock and Winsock2
Close the Registry Editor

Reinstall TCP/IP:
Start > Run > type control panel *click ok*
Switch to Classic View if needed (On the left hand side)
Double Click Network Connections

If you have Dial Up...
Right Click your Dialup Connection and click Properties
Click the Networking Tab
Click the Install button
Double Click Protocol
Click Have Disk
Where it says install Manufacturers files from: put C:\Windows\inf then click OK
Double Click Internet Protocol TCP/IP

If you have Highspeed...
Right Click Lan or Highspeed (Or Local Area Network) and click Properties
Click the Install button
Double Click Protocol
Click Have Disk
Where it says install Manufacturers files from: put C:\Windows\inf then click OK
Double Click Internet Protocol TCP/IP

Restart your computer

Cheers,

Obviously these steps are for Windows XP
