My Cell Phone. by .blade// on 06-29-2004 at 05:21 PM

A little while ago I posted about a Cell Phone I was going to buy, but it turns out that the Service Prodvider doesn't service my area, so I wanted your advice. I am planning to buy the Kyocera Slider and service it with Bell Wireless.
You can find out more about the slider at http://www.sliderstyle.com and more about bell at http://www.bell.ca

Anyone have any reviews of either bell or the slider they would like to share?

Nokia 6230 :P

i had it for couple of weeks now, absolutley owns ^_^

VERY good quality camera (best i've seen on a phone so far)
you can put MP3s onto it
you can put Videos onto it
it has 8.9mb space on the phone itself, and you get a 32mb memory card which slots behind the battery when you get the phone.
it has bluetooth,

Bassically, it has the lot :p

Click for picture (click "Phone Features" on the elft for full feature list)

Why not get a Smart Phone? the only downside of it is that you don't have Messenger Plus! on it. :(
You can even make your own themes for it. :P

Err... O2 is not in canada, that's why :P

Well, you can also make your own themes for Sony Ericsson phones, and I'm not sure for nokias but I'm pretty sure you can as well.

[ego-booster comment :gfdrin:] Yesterday I found out that the one who is behind all the nokia phone designs (the one who manages the group of designers Nokia has in Finland and who come up with all those weird button arrangements) is from argentina! [/ego-booster comment]
RE: My Cell Phone. by .blade// on 06-30-2004 at 03:26 AM

Has anyone bothered to realise I asked for oppinions on bell as a service provider and a [b]Kyocera Slider[b] phone, not phone SUGGESTIONS....

RE: My Cell Phone. by eckocomplex on 06-30-2004 at 04:10 AM

The Kyocera phone is ugly. Enough said. Plus Kyrocera phones have a shockingly bad UI. Color Nokia phones have terible quality screens (cheaper ones) and the camera quality is around my drawing ability. Sharp is the best brand to buy :D.

Your F-King crazy! the cheapest deal i could find on that was $1089 as if you'd pay that much for a phone! I've got a 7250i, Yes i paid $948 but its not over a grand! im thinking of getting a 6220 which isnt that much better than the 7250 except it has video. Anyone got a better idea?

The Kyocera phones i dont like thier quality but they are good value..

http://www.nokia.com.au/nokia/0,,36910,00.html for the 6220.
RE: My Cell Phone. by kao on 06-30-2004 at 08:52 AM

Actually, the 6230 is free on Contract ^_^

i pay £15 a month for the contract with vodafone, and got the phone for free (i told them i was going to change to O2 on the phone and they gave me a better deal) my mum is on vodafone and pays £17.99 a month for 30 minutes and 50 texts, i get 100 minutes and 50 texts, along with free WAP :P
And its so expensive because its pretty new :p

EDIT: btw blade, that phone is ugly :undecided:

RE: My Cell Phone. by Pipish on 06-30-2004 at 09:18 AM

RE: My Cell Phone. by user27089 on 06-30-2004 at 09:21 AM

You guys aren't helping much -_-' You're saying that "so and so phone is awesome!" but not saying WHY!

You also aren't giving me a lot of price info...

RE: My Cell Phone. by Pyroteq on 07-01-2004 at 08:52 AM

Ok, what price are you looking to spend?

RE: My Cell Phone. by sock on 07-01-2004 at 12:16 PM

I have the Nokia 6230 too, it's the first phone of its kind:
Full multimedia capabilities AND a compact design.

It's a really impressive phone, I recommend it too.

Still it has some disadvantages (confirm, Kaoster?:p):

1. Probably my biggest complaint: It's very hard to press the center button in the joystick, because it's attached to the four directional buttons. You can get used to it, but it's still quite annoying, especially when you let others use the phone.

2. Baterry doesn't last too long (but it's reasonable).

3. The speaker is a little weak when ringing. It doesn't matter when the phone's on you (because of the vibration), but if I'm in the basement with the door closed, I might not hear it ringing upstairs.

4. It has panels, which necessarily means a lesser build quality. The back panel doesn't sit tightly on the top part (it can't break off, but it's annoying psychologically). :-/

5. It doesn't have a fancy OS, just normal phone software (an example for the software's limits: you can't seek songs or play them in the background).

6. About the camera:

Of course, the camera doesn't have a zoom nor a flash; and for those reasons, its quality is only good when you take a picture of close objects with some light around. Forget about distant shots, especially in the night. :P And forget about taking dark pictures when there are lamp lights in the background.

The night mode is effective, but suffers from lamp lights even more, and is less responsive because of its high processing. When it's really dark and there aren't any lamp lights, the night mode adds some disruptions to the image, and the colors are weird (in normal mode, you wouldn't see a thing in that situation).

The video image quality totally sucks because it's meant to be sent through 3G networks, so the phone makes it as small as possible. Limited to a few seconds, too.

In short, it's just like a Webcam, it's not even remotely close to the quality of standard digital cameras... It just isn't really useful as cam.

7. More on multimedia:

- The clean ~35MB that you get are more than enough for images, video and speech, but not much if you want to use the phone as an MP3 player.
- Bluetooth is slow and has lame software (on my PC at least). :p

But it's still fun to take pics and later download them to the PC and send people... :p You can take so many pics, that some of them ought to be worth something.

8. Costs a damn fortune. :p

Well....... that's it I think. :-/

But it's a great phone, honest! :p

I am looking to spend around $300 (Canadian) or less...
The slider is about $280 without contract and $129 on a 2-year term.

Agreed, but its easy once you're used to it :p

Mine lasted 3 days (on all night), even with full play-age with camera etc :undecided:

Put the MP3s in the Gallery -> Music files and you can play then, push the red button and it carries on, and you can do other things, but if they're on the memory card then you can't afaik :(

o.O Doesn't yours limit the videos to 90kb or so? :-/
For me, the videos are *very* low-res, and the quality is awful at night... :-/

You pay £15 a month for... what?

I pay £11 ($20 US) a month just for the phone. :lipsrsealed:

I think that the most special advantages of this phone are its size&weight (which are revolutionary for this kind of an advanced phone), and its amazing screen (LCD TFT), which makes the images/videos look great. Of course, the screen's pretty small because of the phone's dimensions, but the resolution isn't bad. :P

But umm... you can't afford it anyway, so I'll shut up. :p
RE: My Cell Phone. by reisyboy on 07-02-2004 at 12:01 PM

For the contract, 100 minutes to any network (uk) at any time, 50 texts and free wap, the phone itself was free.

and about the videos, i recorded a 4minute video of me walking up the road, check video settings and change length to max...
RE: My Cell Phone. by saralk on 07-02-2004 at 12:34 PM

with nokia's camera software, recording is limited to certain file size. However u can have files that are as long as u want on it. If you want to increase the file size, try recording them where there is a lot of light.

RE: My Cell Phone. by Concord Dawn on 07-02-2004 at 12:47 PM

I suggest a Kyocera 7135 with 1X capabilities. A little over your price range maybe, but damn well worth it. You can check out a full list of specs here.

Just a basic list,

1. Expansion slot for MMC/SD cards

2. Onboard MP3

3. High-Speed Internet Capabilities (with 1X)

4. Games :D

5. Palm integration

Bell provides 1X networks. I know this because my Dad has this phone and a Bell plan with 1X, the internet is around 500 kb/s, which isn't bad for a phone.

Maybe you didn't hear what I said several times....UNDER $300....anyways, just looked at the futreshop flyer and the Kyocera Slider is on sale for $80 off :bananaxmas:
RE: My Cell Phone. by iascoot on 07-04-2004 at 04:26 AM

i got a nokia 3200 and it does what i want
i say just get the phone you want that suits your needs, theres always going to be the pros and cons, but if it does what you want then go for it

if you get a nokia phone, dont use the Nokia PC Suite, its slow and.. crap.
Use Oxygen Phone Manager - http://www.opm-2.com instead, faster and better interface, not a bunch of separate programs
