Formatting C: by Weyzza on 06-29-2004 at 10:53 PM

Could anyone give me steps how to format C:?

I'm going to fresh-install my XP.
I have My Documents placed in drive E:, and I don't want to lose any from it.
It's kinda big, and I don't know how to back it up.
To split the harddisk, I use Partition Magic 8.0.
If I format the C:, will the drive be messed since Partition Magic is deleted?

Thanks

Couldn't tell you, I partitioned mine manually.

^o)

Burning to multiple CDs sounds like a pain in the ass... I suppose there are programs to do it automatically though... :-/

it should'nt because partition magic just edits the partitions like any other program.  but i say back up onto something else anyway, myabe an old hard drive if you don't want lots of cd's

If you have created multiple partitions on your hard drive using Partition Magic and if you have backed up the information from those partitions then you will want to take a look at this article from Microsoft

When you format your Windows partition, it does not touch any of the other drives.

To reformat drive C, just place your Windows XP cd inside the cd  drive (make sure CD is set up as first booting device [or at least before HD]) and install away. As long as the My Documents folder is on another partition, it will not be touched.

Partition Magic is just like any other piece of software. Its software that partitions. If you uninstall it, things will still be going just as if it never existed.
