Welcome to the forums!

Anyway the quick and simple answer: no, you need to be online at the same time as the contact arrives online.

edit: where are my manners lol. Its way too late for me

I have question pertaining to this,

Say : I set a come-back message for Mr. A today, he signs in today and a auto message sent. After some chit chatting, I off my PC and go online on next day and Mr. A signs in again. Will the come back message sent again.

It seems like the setting of come back message only works once but the second time the person signs in, the message is gone.

Can I set the come back message to permanent?

Please advice and thanks in advance

No. Once it is sent, it is removed.

the point is that you don't forget that you have to say something to somebody and then you put the automessage. It's also useful when you're away and the person signs in while you aren't at the computer.

why would you want to send the same thing each time someone signs in?

As you say, sometime i am away and someone signs in without me knowing that he/she signs in. So permanent auto message would be very useful.

Secondly, most of the time when someone signs in, i would say "Hi, Mr. xxx .... How r u today?". If there is no auto message, i would have to type each time everyday.

IMO, the main goal of automessages is not say "Hi, mr x", (ie: start a conversation with someone) but send a message that you want not to forget.
