Trouble with signing in- help needed!!!! by vincerooney on 07-01-2004 at 04:11 PM

I've been having trouble signing in, but its not your usual run of the mill problem i'm having.

whenever i click the button on the front of msn messenger to sign in automatically it tells me that its an invalid username or password. in order to sign in i have to go to file sign in and do it the manual way.

now this wouldnt bother me except i like to leave my computer on sometimes. im on 56k so i get disconnected and then my pc dials up again automatically. but of course msn doesnt sign in automatically because it just keeps coming up 'invalid username and password' because im not there to do it the long winded way.

i dont understand what to do because i've tried deleting the account from msn explorer and then putting the account back on. i type in all the correct address and password so the account should therefore work. but everytime i click the front i get the same annoying message again..

thanks for your help in advance i've always had every problem sorted out or at least attempted to sort out on these forums so i'd be very grateful to anyone who could give me some guidance. thank you!

If you are on XP, it's possible a different account (one that has had its password changed) is linked with the WinXP logon. In that case, you'll need to change which passport is bound to the WinXP account.

Hmmm i am on windows xp. how do i go about changing this?

On the front of msn messenger it does say the right email address..it just keeps coming up invalid username and password. and the password then works then i do it the manual way. its annoying as falling onto a bike with no seat on./

In Control Panel | User Accounts:
1. Select the account you wish to change the Passport for
2. Click 'Change .NET Passport'
3. Choose 'Use a Different Passport'
4. Follow the wizard through.

See if that works.

The reason was that your password in the stored login accounts was wrong...
