/me bug by Choli on 07-02-2004 at 10:48 PM

Look at |/|artij||'s reply to Abubu. =|. |\/|artij|\| used the /me thing but instead of

* |\/|artij|\| bla bla bla

MyBB puts

* |/|artij|| bla bla bla

ie: without the backslashes ( \ ). I think it's a PHP bug. I think that the sames happens with /slap

edit:
the [post] tag seems to have the same bug (3rd word of this post). maybe the [thread]one too.

the bug only happens when backslashes ( \ ) are in the nick.

It's been said before, but I'll say it again...that's what happens when you allow dodgy characters in users' names...

RE: /me bug by GiantSpider on 07-03-2004 at 09:40 AM

I backslash is hardly a dodgy character.

RE: /me bug by surfichris on 07-03-2004 at 09:47 AM

It is a dodgy character and thats why in RC3 it has been disallowed for nickname registrations.

This board only uses RC2  WDZ needs to adapt the board to include all his special features

:-/ surely banning the character is just the lazy way out... php can easily handle names with slashes in the right way... in this case it looks like an addslashes is needed somewhere along the line; not too demanding is it?

yes, but however i agree that some characters shouldn't be allowed in nicks.

haha, of course not, but our lazy admin has better things to do (:pound:), instead of fixing it :P

Yeah, I think that's more of a personal preference thing, but I agree that such characters aren't really necessarry in usernames.
RE: /me bug by Choli on 07-05-2004 at 07:57 PM

this is a bit offtopic, but i think it's related to the discussion here:

IMO, nick names should:

  • Begin with a non-space character (maybe only with a letter or digit
  • Contain only (english) letters (A..Z, a..z), digits (0..9) and a very reduced set of signs (maybe only these: +-_.,
  • Be at least 2 characters long (maybe only 1? that's weird for a nick)
  • Have no more than X characters (where X = 20? 25? 30?)
  • Have at least one space every X characters (X = 10?), to avoid that long nicks mess the layout of the forums (for example that PiratesOfTheCaribbean (no offence, fraisie))
  • Not have 2 or more spaces one next to the other, to not confuse "This is my nick" with "This is  my nick")
  • and, of course, the nicks would be stored case sensitive, but there wouldn't be 2 users with the same nick without caring about the case (<- thi is like it's now)
