btw in the plugin dir you'll find openwindow.wav and closewindow.wav

these sounds will be played when a window is opened/closed
deleting these files will stop playing they sound :P

it also logs open/close window
to openConvo.txt

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Varish on 07-05-2004 at 09:52 AM

Very nice......you shold make a decen't text file about the features and some FAQ too, but i guess your too lazy like WDZ. :P

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Wouter on 07-05-2004 at 10:14 AM

btw,
at least tell me what options youll like to see @ the options page

example
different collor for popup open/close
enable/disable log
etc :)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by user27089 on 07-05-2004 at 10:18 AM

it says that it has to close, and there is an error

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Varish on 07-05-2004 at 10:38 AM

  • Different color for popup open/close. (maybe according to the notice! ie. for example, green colour for Open Convo, red for Close?
    Enable/disable Nitifications itself!
    Enable/disable log.
Enable/disable sounds. (or maybe allow coustome sounds?)
Allow either nick name/custome nick name or email address on the nofification!

I cant' think of anyother!

Also, its a little confusing to have both Options and Configurations. I think its better if you provide only one of em' since they are kindda the same.

If its possible to open a window without sending anything you could add so that a chat window with the person opens

first of all i personaly don't like small programs with instalation systems... they tend to install unknown other "things" and change windows config and stuff like that. and this one realy does. that error message on installation makes me think what went wrong there.... i would rather prefer to install it manually.

when i opened messenger after installing your plugin a window appear saying something about supporting you and stuff... and that's too agressive for me. i'm sorry, i understand your effort on making this, but that dialog appearing everytime i open messenger is such a bad ideia. make that info on the plugin config window.

and your plugin takes 20 times more memory than msgplus! itself.
6,3mb is still way too much (i own a very old toaster :P).

i've found out this one that takes less memory, works pretty fine and is defenetly less evasive to my system. check it out

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Black_Forky on 07-05-2004 at 01:08 PM

The donation thing only comes up the first time. Wouter does this for alot of his plugins

Excelent!

Thank you Wouter! ;)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CanadianOriginal on 07-05-2004 at 04:23 PM

I've had the same problem eith both versions of the plugin. I install it, everything is fine, it even works for a bit, and suddenly stops. The executable still loads, but I get no notifications. Reinstalling MSN Messenger, Plus and the plugin does no good. I know the problem is probably a conflict with something else on my PC, but I can't find a pattern. Any ideas??

Windows Version: Windows XP, 5.01.2600
Messenger Client Version: 6.2.0133
Messenger Plus! Version: 3.01.0094

PS: the plugin (when I can get it to work) is amazing. By far my favorite of all ;)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Wouter on 07-05-2004 at 04:30 PM

thanks Cookie (K)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by matty on 07-05-2004 at 04:45 PM

Good job wouter, just one suggestion. There are collisions with your Toasts and MSN/Plus! toasts, so possibly for less confusion could you have it popup on the left side?

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CanadianOriginal on 07-05-2004 at 04:49 PM

It doesn't work on load, then stop.

With the previous version, it would work for a few days and then stop working altogether. I haven't been able to pin down a single event that causes it. I haven't been able to get the new version to work at all.

I'm on a high speed DSL line, directly to the modem (no lan). I do have a firewall, but wether it's enabled or disabled makes no difference. In fact, I haven't been able to note any major differences which would make the plugin stop working. Background Processes include a web ser, file sharing server, mIRC, and dyammic DNS updater.

If there's anything else you need, just let me know

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by FuzzyWuzzy on 07-05-2004 at 09:02 PM

this is stupid but oh well...

could there maybe be an option if u dont wanna use the popups that it will display somthing like "(!M) Has ended this message session" or somthing in the chat window itself?

Example:

That would be nice too.

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by giken on 07-06-2004 at 06:47 AM

Wouter I suggest to change the installer name, "installer.exe" is too generic and make confusion after downloaded in my plugins folder :)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Barisko on 07-06-2004 at 08:07 PM

Hallo Wouter,
Zou het mogelijk zijn om een optie toe te voegen zodat de popup niet verdwijnt totdat er op het kruisje wordt geklikt?

---------------------------------------

Hi Wouter,
Is it possible to add an option so that the popup's don't close untill the [x] is clicked?

---------------------------------------

(and maby the green popup less green and the red popup less red...?)

That would make that after a while your whole screen is filled with popups, in toher words not good... Besides, the events are logged anyways, so you wont miss any event....

You can edit the actual bitmap yourself...

RE: RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CanadianOriginal on 07-07-2004 at 12:47 PM

Is there any known issues with StuffPlug NG? I recently rebuilt my OS and used the plugin with no problems, until I installed SPNG. It still loads and shows up in the plugin list, but doesn't popup or log events.

Edit: I managed to get it working again, by removing both OpenCOnvo and SPNG, right down to all their registry entries, uninstalling both Messenger and Plus, rebooting, reinstalling and using only OpenConvo. As soon as I install SPNG, OpenConvo stops working :S. I'm not sure what is causing the problem, but there seems to be some conflict somewhere between the two.

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Pete_M on 07-07-2004 at 01:33 PM

All I can say is. This version doesn't work
with Xp Pro, MSN Messenger 6.1.0211

I installed the latest, but it simply didn't
alert about anything :S

EDIT. Argh, the NTDLL.DLL error
is still there. It just doesn't appear
after the installing. It will be there
the next time I run Messenger.

Definitely nice. Update installed. :)

But can't test it now because it's 9 AM in my country, and no one is connected. :S But, the new options panel seems to work fine. :D

Greetings,

Greetings,

Yes! I was thinking the same thing... I can't test it...

Could you maby add an button to the option panel so a 'test'-popup, with for example your own name/email, shows? This way you can test the settings you just entered!

btw. it look really really good! the only thing I don't understand why the thing is using so much system resourses even when there is no activity on msn...?

keep up the good work!

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Jolo on 07-07-2004 at 02:10 PM

A friend has connected; works fine. :D

Only a bug, like the other version:

- If I have too windows open (like IE, MSN, Outlook, etc. etc.) on the front of the screen, and I try to access the Options panel, sometimes it appear at the background of the screen, behind ALL the windows opened. It would be very nice that the Options Panel would be Always On Top. :)

Greetings,

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Wouter on 07-07-2004 at 02:13 PM

should i make it always on top or just pop to top when you enter the options pannel ?

That's useless. The options affects WHEN a toast is shown. Furthermore, this wouldn't 'test' if the recieving of the events works fine...

You can very easly test it out yourself in a proper way if you use polygamy (or Windows Messenger) by opening a chatwindow in your second acount to your first account...

But first make sure you've configured openConvo to enable toast!

quote:

** Not always on top, that's only needed for critical window warnings or something.

Make it that it popups on top of all windows, and that it also shows an icon in the taskbar so you can always click it again, when another window is opened on top of that. Just like the "1st time"-msgbox.

Or, best solution if possible IMO, make it that it always popups (when it is active of course) on top of the Messenger windows so that whenever you click the main messenger window or a conversation window it will be on top again. This doesn't require an icon in the taskbar. (= same beheviour as Messenger Plus! config window)

** Then, make sure that it doesn't open a second toolwindow when you click on "configure" again in the Messenger Plus! plugin panel. (I dunno if it does now though, didn't tested this yet) -> is ok

** Also, IMHO, selecting "use default toast" should use a normal looking basic build-in toast instead of the open/closewindow.bmp's. In my eyes, those bmp's are an example of custom toasts and are only included as that, examples.
-> It was rather confusing when I edited the toasts to my likings, but selected "use default toast" nevertheless, and still my edited toast would popup. I expected that a normal looking toast would popup for both events.

** beheviour-bug: After you close the "select file"-dialog, the focus should be returned to your configuration toolwindow:
- A user clicks opens the "select-file"-dialog.
- He realises that he must do some other file-stuff first and switches to Windows Explorer. (he leaves the "select-file"-dialog open).
- After he's done, he clicks on the "select-file"-dialog icon in his taskbar and the dialog appears again.
- He selects the correct file and closes the dialog.
-> The configuration toolwindow is "lost" behind other windows....

** beheviour-bug: If you open the "select file"-dialog the current file in your settings, that you've previously selected, isn't entered/filled in in the filenamebox.

** beheviour-bug: If you open the "select file"-dialog and select a file or whatever, but press on cancel. The dialog shouldn't return a null-string; Now it clears the textbox in the configuration-panel. It should just cancel away and do nothing...

** I've also send you 2 mails (1 with some other small gui-thingies, and 1 with toast examples that you can use if you like them)

Updated to Messenger 6.2.0137 and still, it doesn't notify on any opened or closed windows. Been tested. What systems are you other people using? (I'm on Xp Pro, Plus 3.01.94, Mess 6.2.0137) and got Windows Messenger 4.7 installed. And yes, I have configured it...

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CanadianOriginal on 07-12-2004 at 09:18 AM

I've had major problems getting this plugin to work. I've seen it work fine (I love it, actually), but it arbitrarily stops working for no reason that I can see.

I had found a fix, albeit a troublesome one. I had to uninstall the plugin, Plus! and MSN Messenger, remove all references to th eplugin in my registry, reboot, reinstall everything, and it would work. Now, not tven that fixes it anymore. It still shows up in the plugins list, and openconvo.exe still loads, it just doesn't do anything. It doesn't seem to detect anything at all, because there are no toast popups and nothing in the log file.

  • Enabled or disabled firewall makes no difference
With or without other plugins makes no difference
    System Restore doesn't even help

I have the same setup as the two people above and it didn't work. I did ask previously as to what setups the others were 'sportin' but no avail.  The features look real good, especially logging of events. Something I really missed in the previous version :-)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CookieRevised on 07-12-2004 at 10:42 PM

Many people have also "the same setup" and it works fine with them ;)
I can't help you further, other then saying 1) make sure you've installed it properly 2) that your windows is up to date and 3) that you have configured the plugin...

If I hadn't done all that, I wouldn't be so stumped and asking for help ^o)

Are there any other suggestions??

For me, when people open the convo window it works fine (it logs it and it shows the toast) but it doesn't do anything when people close the convo window. It isn't really that big of a deal though because i have stuff plug NG to notify me when people close the window. :D Great job Wouter(Y)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Katt on 07-17-2004 at 01:44 PM

I don't know if anybody else has this problem but I'll give it a shot.

I have a contact who almost always appears as busy or away but displays a certain pic whenever he is available to talk to certain close friends.  Whenever I open an IM window to check the pic and then close it cause the wrong one is there, a few minutes later I get the open window toast and an IM window opens up even though he has done nothing at his end.  Is there something I can do to stop this?

I run 2 passports MSN Loader to load more than one instance and I was on IM with him and had him try opening an IM convo with my other passport and it did nothing.

Other than that, so far the plug-in works great for me.  Many thanks to the creator.

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by MiK on 07-17-2004 at 03:39 PM

the plug in doesn't work for me.
i configure the plug in but i don't receive any message when someone open or close the im windows.

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by antonywilson on 07-18-2004 at 03:30 PM

It doesnt work for me either. I tried restarting and everything, configured it all, checked its running, checked its being read in msn plus, and everything. Sent it to one of my contacts, and it worked. Could it be that it only works on XP, because I am on ME. Perhaps there is a .dll file missing in Windows Me, that comes with XP?

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CanadianOriginal on 07-18-2004 at 07:16 PM

I'm on XP, and I still have a hell of a time getting it to work. I managed to get it to work a few days ago, not sure how, it spontaneously started working, and it hasn't worked again since I rebooted

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CookieRevised on 07-18-2004 at 08:10 PM

Requirements:
* An NT operated system (Windows XP, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003)
* Windows messenger needs to be installed and enabled (on XP --picky Mnjul-- :p) !
* You need to configure the plugin at least like this:
Event > Openend Window Event > Enable Toast display
Event > Closed Window Event > Enable Toast display
Toast > Toast System > Use default toast (and make sure that the two bitmaps are located in your plugins directory!)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by TRIFORCE89 on 07-23-2004 at 05:59 PM

I had openConvo and Tabbed MSN before.  When I saw that Wouter put the installers back up, I uninstalled the ones I had because they weren't from an "official" source (umm...well I think so anyway.  I don't remember where I got them from).

AmpPlugLib.dll has appeared in My Documents either after I installed openConvo or when I tried to install Tabbed MSN.  I say tried because I now get this message: "Some files could not be found please note you have to unpack the zip file Installer will now close.”

Anyone know why and what that DLL is doing in My Documents?  I'm posting this here because I don't know if this has to do with openConvo or Tabbed MSN.  I tried installing them to soon after each other so now I'm not sure.

Thanks,

EDIT: Nevermind. AmpPlugLib.dll came from the Tabbed MSN installer. I realized because before I had the installer saved to My Documents when I ran it, but this time I had it in the Plugins directory and the DLL showed up there. openConvo works but I'm still getting an error when I try to install Tabbed MSN. Now that I know what the problem is, forgive me for using the wrong thread. Sorry.

EDIT 2: I have both working now. I downloaded Tabbed MSN from an attachment provided by king_of_cool_kids in the Tabbed MSN thread. It appears to be 2.1.0.0 which is the latest. So I guess I'm good to go. Sorry for wasting your time. Great plugins Wouter!

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by E-Vix on 07-25-2004 at 10:22 PM

I'm just wondering why openconvo is sucking up so much of my bandwidth? I've had it downloading from some IP address at more than 150 Kbps, and for some notifier plugin I think this is way too much.
When I limit the available bandwidth for openconvo to 5 Kbps, it doesn't work anymore and I don't get the toasts.

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by AlbioB on 07-26-2004 at 12:14 AM

i use netlimiter too and i had the same problem. but using du-limiter, i saw that netlimiter make a mistake: openconvo uses no band in reality, also outpost firewall said that.

maybe netlimiter shows that value because openconvo is a sniffer, so it analyzes all data incoming in your computer.

(sorry for my bad english, it's about 24 hours that i don't sleep :S )

Wrong... StuffPlug-NG doesn't have all the functions this plugins has... Furthermore, there are people who don't wanna install a plugin with tons of functions they're not gonna use...

PS: the plugin is still working absolutley perfect here (even after being online for more then 3 days <= reply to the report by someone who said that the plugin doesn't work after a while)

Don't turn this around!... Fact is that Openconvo had these features before StuffPlug-NG did.... And OpenConvo has , btw, more features regarding this subject....

Exactly. And, is is much more "customizer" than SPNG.

A slight suggestion for the next version of OpenConvo:

If possible, include the option to log notifications to Plus!'s Event log, rather than it's own text file.

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by E-Vix on 08-09-2004 at 08:48 AM

Any news on the new version? Over 10 days ago you said you had the new version ready. When is it going to be released?
Personally I don't care if it has an installer or not, just as long as the plugin works.

That's very difficult (impossible) to do. IIRC, Wouter talked about it (I dunno, if it was with me or not, although I remember something about it :p)

The Event log isn't saved/updated everytime an event occurs. It is only saved/updated on certain time intervals. Thus, this makes that saving to the eventlog file isn't possible without screwing up the timeflow....

Yep, nice (Y)... but you've based your designs not on the original toasts.

Anyways, since I also made some toasts a long time ago for OpenConvo and send them directly to Wouter to use if he feels like it, I have the original components of the toasts in different layers and all... blah blah blah... in short: can you send me your original graphics in the original format (before you converted them to bmp)? In that way I can make even more perfect (including a custom openconvo logo which I've used instead of msn-logo)...

The base I used for these toasts is the popup.bmp file included with openconvo. As it had some flaws in it (magnify the original, and look at the center left and center right of the toast. you'll see some transitions that aren't very smooth), I changed it a litle bit.
If you want my originals, I can send them to you tonight when I get back from work.

I give up... My best gues is that Wouter has been kidnapped by aliens and are doing all sort of weird experiments with him. Right now all his lims and organs are probably placed in seperate jars, and his brain is kept alive with electronic stimulation. When they are done experimenting on him they will put him back together and send him back to earth.
It's either that, or Wouter forgot all about releasing the new version of Openconvo ;)

Im using messenger 6.2 and the latest plus.

RE: RE: RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CookieRevised on 09-08-2004 at 12:29 AM

If you read the thread you'll find your answer....

comdlg32.ocx is a needed component for this plugin. It's needed because this plugin is written in VB.

You can find the file on the net or download the zip with the file in it here:
http://shoutbox.menthix.net/attachment.php?pid=213618

Unzip that file, and place comdlg32.ocx in your system32 directory (useually c:\windows\system32\).

Register the file:
Start > Run > now type in: regsvr32 "c:\windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx" and press ok

Reboot the PC

You could also try this installer : http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/libraryfiles.exe

I've used is to install comdlg32.ocx. No hassle with copying the files manually or installing them with regsvr32. I'm not sure, but I believe I didn't even need to reboot afterwards.
The installer also installs some other comonly used library files, so it should work for most programs that say they are missing an OCX file.

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by BlackStar on 09-22-2004 at 04:27 PM

I have noticed a strange thing.
When you are starting a conversation by doubleclicking on a floating user you won't get any notification at all.

This is also valid for the "Window Closed Alert" (Notifier.dll).

I have only tried these two alerters and on WindowsXP Pro SP2 English, Messenger 6.2.0137 and Messenger Plus 3.20.100.

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature. ;)

However, my conclusion is that if you don't want the other side to know that you have opened a Convo window, for some reason, then just start it from the floating thingy on your desktop.

Not sure if I should bother Patchou about it thoug...

Anybody having this strange behaviour?
Everytime I change my DP one of my contacts opens up a Convowindow and the toast pops up. Sometimes it opens up twice. It is always the same contact that opens up the chattwindow. When I close the window, the toast is popping up again telling me that the contact has left the chat.
Very odd I might say...

I think this is related to:

the other MSN was notified you opened a window, and to prepare a conversation it wants to get the Display Picture. because the connection is already closed, it opens a new one, and SPNG detects that as a conversation...

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by BlackStar on 10-02-2004 at 01:49 AM

Ahaa.. thanks for informing. I did a search for it but couldn't find any answer. That's why I asked.
I've found that very often that when you search, you won't find any answers because you don't know the proper word(s) to search for.
Thanks again. 4 in the morning here.
Goodnight...

My best guess is you'll never see that version. He promised to release it over 2 months ago, but I think that he dropped the project or something. He said it was finished and he only needed to reconfigure the installer... And that's the last we heard of him.

You could try to PM / E-Mail him. I did, but he didn't reply.
RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Raven89 on 10-22-2004 at 01:40 AM

It quit working when i Installed new version of Plus!

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Jolo on 10-22-2004 at 01:46 AM

Mmm... Is working here with 3.25.

But Wouter doesn't show vital signals and is obvious that the actual version of OpenConvo will don't work on MSN Messenger 7.

:(

Please Wouter! Don't let us down!

Your plugin is much better (at this moment) that the similar features on StuffPlug-NG. :D

Please, upgrade! :D

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by steVenB on 10-23-2004 at 02:53 AM

I installed it last night and it worked great until recently. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling but it says installation failed but all of a sudden it says installation complete. However I then get runtime error '53', file not found...any ideas?
Thanks

OpenConvo by michael_m91 on 10-27-2004 at 04:29 AM

anyone able to tell me why even though i have the "Pop a toast" unchecked i still get a popup.

and why when i choose "do not pop a toast when your status is set to" having them all checked it still pops a toast.

He is an extremly busy man with a real life. (and IIRC he has exams lately). Besides OpenConvo was a private project actually. The current version works fine as it is. Also, because he is very busy he can only focus on 1 thing at the time.

It is his plugin, he can do whatever he wants with it (dishing it, stop development, etc. without giving any account to us.)

And frankly, many of the requests/bugs reported here could easly be solved if people read this complete thread/instructions/etc...

Although, a small word doesn't harm indeed...
RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by E-Vix on 11-22-2004 at 11:47 AM

OK. It's been 4 months since Wouter said he'd have the new version of plugin ready in just a couple of days, and allmost a month since the last post in this thread. So, what's the status of this plugin? Is the new version ever going to be released?

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by FuzzyWuzzy on 11-22-2004 at 04:17 PM

if i remember right i asked about this plugin in the s2n  thread, he said he had it done but it had to be used as a proxy, and that was part of why he never released it.... i think thats what he said anyways ill look it up

edit:
http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=18116&page=28

starts on page 28 and go onto 29, it does act like a proxy, and im gussing thats why he never released it :|

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by taz030485 on 02-22-2005 at 11:26 PM

Is it possible to run this plugin WITHOUT windows messenger?
As I use a wireless network and sometimes I loose connetion and when I get it back windows messenger signs me in before msn gets a chance to, and it also takes up valuable systems resources and boot time.

Yes, it will still function, although the reported messages must be interpreted by you (this is due the way msn messenger 7 works, more info on that can be found in various thread). eg: you'll recieve an "opened window" message when you first sign in for some people. They didn't opened a window with you though, it is their msn messenger 7 which requests an update on your DP.... This means the messages aren't always correct, but with the right interpretation, you can easly pick the ones out which are valid.

There is no other method available to detect "opened windows", this is the only way...

Every other possible plugin/addon/whatever which has such a feature will use exactly the same method as used by OpenConvo, there is no other way...

Also see my previous post about this, in this thread (it helps btw if you read the entire thread before posting stuff): http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=28...d=315737#pid315737

It will be were you have set it to be in the preferences of the plugin (if you enabled the logging of those messages of course)...

Configure the plugin before you're going to use it... Also, make sure Windows Messenger is installed on your system (if you have XP)...

No, it must be installed as this plugin uses the Messenger API...

You can configure Windows Messenger so that it does not sign you in automatically when it connects again. Simply open Windows Messenger, go to "Tools > Options > Preferences" and untick:
- Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts
- Allow Windows Messenger to run in the background

After that follow exactly the instructions given on "CookieRevised's reply to I am about to rip my hair out over MS Messanger". Windows Messenger will never bother you again, AND programs which depend on Windows Messenger (yes, even MSN Messenger depends on it for some functions!) will still keep on running 100%...

:P could you make it so that it says something in the window as opposed to a toast... something like:   "(person's name) has opened the window or started a conversation." something like SPNG... I don't know why SPNG has no open window option itself? :P

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by zeus6996 on 02-26-2005 at 06:35 AM

On another note: Why is everyone saying that when someone views your DP it sends a message that they have opened a window... I have polygamy and my friend opened his msn on another msn and looked we tested this... it does not send a message when viewing the DP but it does when opening the window... Thus, I conclude that it works... so why is everyone claiming that the aforementioned predicament occurs on SPNG...?! 8-)

:s Now my program too is not functioning properly... by which i mean I'm not getting any window open/closed toasts or notifications... :(     it worked somewhat well while it worked... lol ..... hopefully there will be an update and a fix to this soon :)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CookieRevised on 02-26-2005 at 05:40 PM

People, please...

There is nothing wrong in how the plugin works!!!! There IS only 1 way to detect this stuff. Read up on some other threads (or even this entire thread) to know how things work and why it does NOT work 100% together with MSN Messenger 7 and why Stuffplug-NG doesn't include this function anymore. If something is not working it is NOT because the plugin is buggy or whatever, but because you didn't configure it right or didn't have Windows Messenger properly installed and enabled or if you have some sort of stupid anti-spyware/adware monitor or even firewall which is blocking stuff. The plugin is absolutely working perfect and there is NOTHING wrong with it.

...

Please, before posting read up on some stuff as EVERYTHING is said before in this and other various threads. And don't go "the thread is too long to read it all" as it are those repeated questions and the repeated answers which makes such threads longer then needed...

...

I'm sorry if this post sounds/is harsh... but it is how it is... there is nothing to fix...

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Weyzza on 02-27-2005 at 06:12 AM

I must be ashamed by myself since I couldn't get this thing working.

CookieRevised, please help me.
I've read the whole thread, but I might be missing something.

So I did what you said in http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=28...d=279802#pid279802

And I have Windows Messenger options on for running on the background and I even gave it access to the net (not blocked by firewall). I didn't set it to start when I log on to Windows.

But, it is still not working.

That would be interesting.. I'm still using msn6.2 and spng 0750 just because of the open/close convo thingy...
RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by jin11 on 05-13-2005 at 02:11 PM

There was a disscussion on the Messenger Discovery Boards.. about how to get this to work as accurately as possible in MSN 7.

Well the basic concept was.. you'd have to sacrifice your Display Pic for it to be more accurate.

So disable your DP option in the tools tab, and then you shouldn't get wrong "user has opened convo" pop-up's anymore...

It's a unique idea, something that we MIGHT be able to use to get around the bullshit Microsoft did in MSN 7.

What do you think about it cookie revised?

Go to Plus -> Preferences -> Plug-Ins -> Configure Open Convo plugin

And then the confi menu for Open convo should pop up. There un-check the box that says open chat pop up on any event. Shouldn't happen again.

you can try the solution i posted to get openconvo working, here is the link to the thread i made:
http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=38...d=378663#pid378663

and please read in this thread particularly here - and read the whole thread i posted above for reasons why openconvo is not AS reliable with msn 7 as it used to be with msn 6.2

Edit:
hopefully the solution will work out for you

Great plugin, works excellently.

One problem, I think the toasts still come up even when messenger is locked (and probably boss protection too).

Could this be fixed please?

Thanks for the plugin!

Can someone provide a description of what this file actually does before I download it?  I mean come on, people, eighteen pages and your description is "(notifies when a user open/close your chat window)" << I only get a vague idea of what that means.  So can someone please type up a paragraph or something?  Or is that too difficult?

in the configuration (when the pannel comes up) you can check the box beside the status at which NOT to recieve notifications. so my only suggestion is play around with that (for instance when you enter boss protection -> make sure that your status gets set to whatever you checked off in the openconvo configuration pannel) :-/

sorry there is no other way around it as far as i know.

 it does simply what it's "title" says ->  openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window)

so you get popups when a person on your contact list opens a conversation window with you, or closes it.

lol, yes reading 18 pages can be annoying, but you will find a lot of useful information within these pages :-/
(for instance you will find out WHY this or any other such plugin does not work as reliably with msn 7 as it did with msn 6)

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Nathan on 05-16-2005 at 05:06 PM

is there away of getting openconvo to say something like "u just shut the box tututtutu"
so every time someone shuts the box?

RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by CookieRevised on 05-16-2005 at 05:08 PM

No, OpenConvo isn't an autoresponder.
And besides, it would be EXTREMELY annoying for you contacts when they close the convo that a new one pops up with "u just shut the box tututtutu", you will be blocked in no time if you do this...

Now when i uninstalled it and installed it again it won't even come up on my plus! and although it says that it installed it, i actually can't even find it on my computer anywhere. please help me somehow...anyone! because i give up!

I followed the instructions on first page step by step and I am not getting any toasts. Performed on my pc and on a xp clean install. Currently no other plugins installed. Only openconvo. Added openconvo to windows firewall settings and also disabled my DP. No errors but no toasts either. Any ideas why? plus 3.54.132 and msn 7.0.0816. Thx in advance

Edit: Got it working 100% with discovery. Anyway I preferred a plus / openconvo or eventyally stuffplug solution :(

That's because with MSN, now that they have contact cards, everytime you look at one of them MSN automatically tries to get the display picture... which opens a connection with the contact... So the notifier thinks that's a conversation window opening, when really it was just the contact card.
RE: openConvo (notifies when a user open/close your chat window) by Andre on 08-04-2005 at 05:51 PM

...And whenever you sign in and your display picture is requested by your contact to be shown on the popup.

The event window of Plus is for Plus only. Look in the settings of the OpenConvo Plugin to configure the log directory (and other options)
