Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a way for custom emoticons to appear in names in conversation windows?
At the moment if i put in the text for a custom emoticon in my name, it just appears as the text i put in, not the emoticon. 
So, is there a plugin or something to achieve this?

no, it can't be done. it is a limitation of the Messenger Protocoll.
