I myself think that Norton and Escorcher are very good programs! (Y)....Becouse they both have saved me many times before with the dodgy hackers out there. And for one, they have never let a virus go undetected....

NOD32 - http://www.nod32.com / http://www.esset.com

EZ Armor (AV & FW) has proven to be the best here.  EZ Armor

Norton is a resource hog & McAfee deleted my WinSock2 files in a bootup scan, so really take your pick.

PC-Cillin 11.2

RE: Virus software by The Napster on 07-28-2004 at 08:31 AM

Ive Used Norton & the Dell Security Center (McAfee).
The McAfee Uses less resources though. So McAfee i guess.
With both of em ive never had a virus mess up my PC though.

Norton does the job for me, but slows down my computer like hell so I took it off.

Yes and No, Titanium is a Panda product but they also have Platinum, that's the one I have.

Having AVG on that list is an absolute disgrace to AV software. Well I can tell you all next year's version of Norton will be really good.

RE: Virus software by RaceProUK on 07-28-2004 at 10:08 PM

McAfee all the way!
Nice and easy to use, and it doesn't fry motherboards like Norton does... :dodgy: Advent PC... not mine though: I built mine myself. Never had a Norton product on it, and never will.

zone alarm is good for me more of a firewall though but if u get viruses u can deny em access to the internet

RE: Virus software by zaidgs on 07-30-2004 at 11:25 PM

i use symantec antivirus corporate edition.
i think its the best !!

im not sure why people say norton av is heavier
than macafee, i think macafee is much heavier !!
(heavier i mean its more load on the pc)

RE: Virus software by M73A on 07-30-2004 at 11:34 PM

i would recommend AVG as i have had norton installed and it dint pick up a virus which i found on my pc wen i installed avg after norton ran out.

.....................but i must say windoctor and many of the other utilities that come with norton are extremely useful tho

RE: Virus software by Dane on 07-30-2004 at 11:39 PM

Norton all the way.  Thats resource hogging is pure bullshit, I've been running it since I got my first computer (which came equipped with Norton AntiVirus 2000), upgraded it every time and it worked great. That was a Pentium 2 system, and it still runs perfectly.  I now have a Pentium 3 - 866MhZ with Windows XP and run Norton AntiVirus 2004.  Norton AntiVirus 2005 i've only tested minimally, and it also functions great.

Summary: Norton all the way.

Although Norton Antivirus is a good program, it is a pain to simply temporarly disable it. It has far to many running processes and services (and that's why NAV is "heavier") and too much things build in that prevents it from disabling/killing it.

For normal use this is very good and better then others as this will protect the common user. But for the "experienced" user this is a real pain in the *beep*....
