Need opinions on TFT monitor... by Anubis on 07-29-2004 at 11:23 AM

I recently saw this TFT monitor, it seems cheaper than the others, yet seems good quality. I'm currently considering buying it, could anyone please give me an opinion on this monitor as I never had bought a TFT monitor...not the obvious stuff like the features and resolution, just anyone who has a good insight into what could be wrong with it, cheers.

That's ok, my computer doesn't support 640*480, only 800x600 and above...just out of curiosity how does it look at resolution of 1024x768?

Small. But yeah it works.

Most likely not a good latency on the monitor.  Ideally 16ms or lower for gaming needs is best.

If you look around you can get a 15" TFT for the same price, if not less.

The only problem with tft monitors is, that they don't last as long as regular monitors, its just that people find that the size and weight is better, but the actual 'life expectancy' is much more lower, this is because the stuff thats used inside it actually breaks down all the time that its on.

Well I've had mine two years almost now and have had no problems at all. But if you buy now by the time it breaks down then there will probably be a new type of moniter that is better than TFT. On the whole I think TFT is better even if it does have a shorter "life span"

I have a TFT monitor. The picture on a TFT monitor is really clear and it has good colours. They mark easily so dont touch it because you'll get fingerprints and stuff on it and thats annoying.

I've never seen that with TFT. Old LCD's have exactly that problem and start to degrade in really annoying ways. TFTs are sharper and often brighter then a CRT as well as eaiser on the eyes. Also depending on the model never need adjustment for screen size/position. I really dislike TFTs with built in speakers as they ussually suck the monkey.

Personal Expereince:
Were slowly replacing every monitor at my work with flat panel TFTs. We currently have 8 TFTs and they all work beautifully. I have a 17" TFT and 19" CRT at my desk plus my 12" TFT on my iBook and honestly, I use the TFTs more then the CRT purely because they put off a better image and light. I also have a 17" TFT at home that I use for gaming and it works just fine (15ms refresh :-P)

About the speakers: Go for external ones.

Yeah, I noticed the speakers on the side, but I didn't think the quality would be to high...although most the time I use headphones as to not annoy anyone else and I already have some good speakers that came with my computer...

Well yeah keep them as your main and use the internal ones as backup.

use the ones on your monitor as front speakers... put your existing ones behind you and buy 1 subwoofer.... surround sound.....
