winamp 2.95

ok i've used winamp for years, and it has allways been the most stable music player i could find, but now. every time i try to open it i get a
"Winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."
i tried to read the error report and it was just a whole load of stats and hex which mean nothing to me.

It will run when i open it from a reinstall "launch program after set up". then when i close it and reopen it a get the same message again.

Winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

i think there is most likely a problem on my pc in apposed to a problem with winamp because even after completely uninstalling it, the same problems occured on reinstallation.

has anyone ever had simmilar problems or have ideas how to fix it.

have you tried winamp 5?

RE: Darn WINAMP by BiZaRrE on 07-31-2004 at 03:00 PM

Winamp 5 is definately a lot better IMO. try downloading it and see if it works better.

RE: Darn WINAMP by PenguinBoy on 07-31-2004 at 03:01 PM

nope i don't have it and i don't really want it. lol, but i really need my winamp fixed.

i'm pretty sure you've tried re-booting right? (if not, try that:))
do u have any add-ons that work with winamp (e.g. WMPlus 2 or similar ones)?

RE: Darn WINAMP by Kryptonate on 07-31-2004 at 03:28 PM

it's advised that you install Winamp 5 because security holes in Winamp 2 are solved in Winamp 5. Always update your programs if an update is available to make your computer as secure as possible.

meh! don't want winamp 5, it's yeaukhe, winamp 2 is pretty much a differrent program though,
i've got evil lyrics, but all the other plugins for winamp are uninstalled when i uninstall winamp.

RE: Darn WINAMP by PenguinBoy on 07-31-2004 at 04:28 PM

ok i defeated my winamp 5 phobia, and still, on the launch of winamp, i get the same error message.... RRRRRRRRRRRRR

edit: just uninstalled evillyrics, but still the problem is there, i can't live without Winamp!

edit: i was in the middle of designing a skin when the problem first started appearing, the first time it occured was the night before last and i was testing it in winamp as i went allong,  i don't know if that makes any difference at all
also! would it be safe to put the error report on here? i'm not sure if it contains delicate information.

edit: ok, it's got my "ip" in it, so i guess i just find that and delete it it should be fine to post it here, yeah?

Hmmm in Winamp 5's installation did you choose to use the CLassic or Modern skin or did you leave yours as the choice?

Winamp 5 can work exactly the same as Winamp 2, just don't use or don't install modern skin support.
It looks like a compatibility issue or a virus. So check what other programs are running and do a virus scan. Have you made any changes in your system since this started happening?

RE: Darn WINAMP by PenguinBoy on 08-01-2004 at 12:02 PM

ok i think it looks like a virus, i scanned with norton and it came up with an all clear, but when i ran it in safe mode, it froze, and wouldn't respond. i closed it and every time i opened it, it froze. so maybe there is a virus on my system
i'm going to download the latest stinger and give it a check, and i might download an alternative anti virus... any ideas?

I can't remember doing anything major with the pc rescently so it should still run.

RE: Darn WINAMP by PenguinBoy on 08-01-2004 at 01:11 PM

ok, stinger came up with an all clear on all my drives. i'm not as sure as to whether or not it is a virus.

my friend has the exact same problem, but he's on holiday.

i'm going to check out the winamp forum.
