The built-in feature in Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger to send files is very limited and does not use the full available bandwidth for the transfer. The File Transfer Plus plugin solves these limitations by providing more functionality and features such as:

- Resume support with rollback feature to prevent file corruption;
- Speed indicator with estimated time left to complete the transfer and time elapsed;
- Optimal transfer throughput with packet size configuration;
- Automatic compression on-the-fly for even faster transfer speeds;
- Transfer window independent from conversation window and from Messenger;
- Transfer window minimizable to system tray and optionally closes itself when the transfer completes;
- Optionally replaces Messenger's "Send Files" button and drag-and-drop in conversation window (it checks if the plugin is installed on the other side, else the standard transfer is used);
- Ability to send files in conversations with more than one contact;
- Ability to send multiple files simultaneously;
- Transfer can be paused/resumed at any time;
- Advanced connection configuration for different network scenarios, including support for blocked connections (passive transfer mode), although there is no proxy support yet;
- IP address optionally encrypted (for better security in a multi-user conversation window);
- Ability to set a default save folder (media files can have a different default save folder), also a separate folder can be made for each contact;
- Ability to preview media files while the transfer is in progress with the default player. If the file bitrate is less than the transfer speed, you'll be able to preview the entire file from the beginning without interruptions;
- Ability to auto-accept file transfers from your friend list or from anyone (the file is saved in the default folder);
- Transfer history log for easier management of the transferred files;
- And much more!


Transfer with compression enabled - my connection has a maximum upload of 28 KB/s.

- Enhanced display of large nicknames and file names in the transfer window.
- The tooltip of the system tray icon now displays the file name and information about time left and transfer speed.
- The default save folder is now the same as the Messenger's save folder. Also, the plugin now tries to create the folder when it doesn't exist.
- Changes to the send file command do not require a Messenger restart anymore. The plugins are reloaded automatically.
- File Transfer Plus files will be moved into the Plugins\FileTransferPlus subfolder during setup for better organization. You may have to update your firewall settings for the new transferplus.exe location.
- Fixed a bug which could cause the request window not to show up to the receiver.
- Fixed a bug in the Setup script related to Messenger detection.
- File Transfer Plus now works with multiple Messenger instances (including Polygamy plugin).
- Many other bug fixes and improvements.

This version of the plugin is NOT compatible with previous 1.0 versions.


Installation

IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED FILE TRANSFER PLUS 1.0 BETA: Please UNINSTALL it before installing the new version.

1) Download the plugin's Setup package (989KB);

2) Unpack and run TransferPlusSetup11RELEASE.exe to install the plugin;

3) Install it in the Messenger Plus! Plugins directory (for example, C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\Plugins);

4) The Setup will restart Messenger and File Transfer Plus, if running. When the installation completes, Messenger will be automatically restarted;

5) Configure File Transfer Plus, especially the Connection settings, before using.

If you get "runtime" error messages when the plugin is loading, try to download and install the Visual Basic Runtime Library, available at the Microsoft website.


System Requirements

- Microsoft® Windows® 98/ME/2K/XP with Internet Explorer 5.5 or better.
- Messenger Plus! 2 or better.
- Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger compatible with Messenger Plus!.


Usage

To send a file, type /xtpsend and press Enter. You can change this command in the plugin options. Select the file you want to send. You'll be asked to select the receiver if there are more than one contact in the conversation. The transfer will begin when the other part accepts it. Note that both sides must have the plugin installed.

To resume the transfer, save the file in the same folder and with the same filename as before, then you will be prompted to Resume, Overwrite or Rename it.


Connection Settings

In the plugin options, select the network adapter address that is connected to the Internet. Then, you have three options:
- Use the adapter's IP address to send files (default setting);
- Use automatic detection to get your external IP address (usually takes 1 or 2 seconds before sending the file). This option is recommended for router/NAT scenarios;
- Use a manually entered IP or hostname. You can enter here a dynamic IP hostname such as the ones from no-ip.com or dyndns.org.

If your ISP, firewall or router/NAT reject inbound connections, you'll have to select "Send files in passive transfer mode" to be able to send files. In this case, your contact must be able to receive inbound connections.

See Help for more details.


Known Issues and Limitations

- Both sender and receiver must have the plugin installed, otherwise the transfer will not start. It's recommended also to have the same plugin version on both sides (1.1 versions are NOT compatible with 1.0 versions). You can share the plugin with your contacts by using the command /xtpShare. Also, File Transfer Plus can check if the contact has it installed, otherwise the transfer is done through Messenger's standard file transfer. Just type the send command followed by a question mark (for example, /xtpSend?).
- The maximum file size that can be transferred is 2GB. Files larger than 2GB should be split into smaller files.
- It may not be possible to send files with Unicode characters in their name yet.
- Currently there is no Proxy support.

this is great, I've realli wanted a plugin where i can resume dls. saves a lot of time.

We both have ports open but when we try to send to eachother it says transfer cancelled
Is there any limitation as to what port you can use?

Problem.

My buddy and I were trying to send eachother files, but everytime one of accepts (depending on who's sending) it immediatly says "transfer cancelled" (or something like that).

We both have it installed correctly, it's just giving us a hard time. 

The "Transfer Canceled" message appears in one of these cases:

1) The user canceled the transfer (which is not your case)
2) The client (receiver) could not connect to the server (sender)

Please verify if the sender's IP Address is correct in the message that appears when you send a file, and if the sender has that port opened for TCP traffic in the firewall. If not, go to the plugin options and change the settings there.

If they're correct, then I ask you to tell me your operating system and Messenger version so we can track down the problem.

Well in the config window it asked which ip adress but it only showed my Lan Ip not my internet Ip

I test it with the Author... One word: EXCELENT; at the tall of plugins like openConvo and StuffPlug-NG.

I'll add an external IP detection mechanism for routers and NATs in the next release or, at least, a way to set your IP manually as a workaround.

love the plug-in tested it on sendin summit 2 myselft cos no1 is online it worked fine hope it can be developed more in the future! and maybe put that file staus in the actual chat window

I have the same problem. I'm behind a NAT and i can't send (my buddy says it appears TRANSFER CANCELED while at my side i see WAITING ...) but my buddy, who uses ADSL connection, can send me files and it works...can u adjust this problem pls? This plugin looks cool like StuffPlug. I've been waiting for resuming for a long time...Thanx!    Luca

About the ports. Can you make it so that the plugin itself opens a port (within a specified range) and closes it afterwards?

Haven't tried this myself, but for those behind a NAT or Router it sounds like you need to use port-forwarding to open the relevant ports on your NAT/Router.
Your manual should tell you how to do it.

Interesting sounding plugin tho, will definatly try it myself.

Yea i can forward ports but it doesnt recognize my external ip (the plugin) but he said he was gonna fix that so i am happy

I am using a Wireless B Router and I configured it to let those ports but it still wont work.

But I have a suggestion; I've seen the info that's being sent in the chat window, and I must say I don't realy like the fact that it just shows your IP, so It'd be nice if the IP would be sent as an encrypted line of text, or maybe as a long IP, so the avarage n00b won't start bragging he has your IP.

hey dude nice work..also few things if you are adding an option for manual ip can you do it so that we can add no-ip.com dns stuff like my ip changes so to remember it i use no-ip.com dNS service which maps my ip to one name so that i dont have to remember the ip address.it would be really awesome if you can implent something that would elt you enter domain names and it will convert to ip so then i will just have hos*******1.no-ip.com in the ip field and whenever the program tries to initiate a connection it will convert that to ip and do it. also out of curosity does it has something to do with the source someone posted abt him making same plugin and he released the sourceof it.thanks a lot for the pluging.

BETA 2 UPDATE

I've added more options to get your IP address.

In the plugin options, select the network adapter address that is connected to the Internet. Then, you have three options:

Also, the setup does not require Windows Installer anymore. To update, just download the new setup package, uninstall the previous .msi setup, close Messenger, install, and run Messenger again.

I hope this update fix the problem with router/NAT users. They should select "automatic detection" or a custom hostname if they already use those dynamic IP services.

The new features from suggestions will be added after the final release for 1.0, so I can remove all current bugs/problems before adding more

Run the installer, then re-start msn messenger.

I've added a new setup package that does not require Windows Installer. Please uninstall the .msi setup before using the new one.

When I type /xsendfile I get a "File not found" toast immediatly =/

When I type /xsendfile <filename> it just sends some wierd text.

Why dodn't I notice before, the SendFile plugin uses the same command But ok, everything works now (exept for the SendFile plugin), and I can send files.

But would it be possible to change the command, so I could use SendFile again (sends the contents of a text file, nice plugin)?

hmm ok i tried the plugin but unfortunately cant get it to work here is hte scenario my friends lets say pc 1 no router just a simple ADSL modem alcatel directly connected to internet .. my pc alcatel speedtouch router, opened all the ports specified inthe settings. added the ip maunally and did the automatic also i cant send a file to him it just says waiting connection stays there for sometime and hten shows cancelled. now my friend when he does that he also gets the same message though he is not using a router i tried all the ways hostname, ip address manual detection but cant get it to work.Maybe i am doing something wrong. RicarDog can you pm me your email address so that i can test it with you and see if i am doing something wrong or u need some more checking with diff routers and stuff ..btw nice work.

Remember that the plugin tries to use the port numbers sequentially, so it will try first at 8030, and it will only try the next port if the previous one was busy. You have to be sure that the port 8030 is open for incoming TCP connections, originating from any IP address. Some ISPs do not allow any incoming connections, so you might have to check that too.

BTW, for people who can't have incoming connections, I'll add a feature soon that solves the problem by switching the client/server role for sender/receiver.

This plug isn't working for me either , I can receive files but I can't send them. I think it's about the port forwarding. I don't know how to ... I have a Sitecom Dc-202 router btw...

What if you let it send a special ping after you typed /xsendfile and picked the file, and if there's a special pong it sends the file the special way, and if you don't get a pong, (meaning the other person does'nt have the plugin) it uses the normal way, (using /dropfile or something)

  Your send speed may be increased if you set your packet size to a multiple of MSS. To know the MSS of your connection, check it in the SpeedGuide.net website.
- You can now share the File Transfer Plus plugin with your contacts (type /xsharetransferplus to send them the setup);
  This command will send the File Transfer Plus setup package to your contact using the built-in Messenger file transfer.
- Fixed ocasional errors that happened when the transfer was canceled;
- Bug fixes in Time Left and other minor fixes.

To update, just download the new setup package, close Messenger, install, and run Messenger again.

Features Postponed to 1.1

- Support for sending files in computers that block incoming connections (including firewall cases). This will be done by an option that sets the receiver as the server and the sender as the client.
- Preview feature for media file types.
- Check to see if the contact already has the plugin installed, otherwise the transfer is done by the Messenger's file transfer.
- IP address optionally encrypted.
- Command to check for new plugin updates.

Note that this version is NOT compatible with previous BETA releases.

I really like the concept, but I tried it with one of my contacts but it didn't go any faster then 5 kbps (my netlimiter tells me) while I have a max upload of around 40 kbps upload (416 KBit) (and I can upload in dc++ with around 40 kbps).

I have no pc firewall, I do have a router but I opened a port
I used the third function and entered my own external ip
I left the packet size on the default 1024.

Is there a way to get my max upload using File Transfer Plus?

Maybe it's a nice feature to let the plugin automaticly choose the right packed size, this way also people who don't know what it is, can use the full amount.

Could it be possible to select a default folder to save stuff to, like MSN Messenger allows you to do. I'd like to just save everything to My Received Files without having to manually navigating to it each time. You could tie this in with the auto-accept feature as well

i am behind a NAT-Router too, having the same problem.
I opend port 8030-8040 for incoming calls in the router.

I tried to transfer a file to a friend but nothing happend as
described  in the other posts....

I went to the router logfile and found this :

Unrecognized access from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:3600 to UDP port 8030

so i opened port range 3590-3600...  Same result, it will not send
the file ...

i had a few thoughts for improvements on this..

a resend when file tranferes fail
maybe one window for the file transferes? that has a line for each transfer and you can double clikc to open the current file transfer window.
it could have sortable colums for all the differnt info for the transfer
and queue


also i was thinking this could reach an even larger audience if you broke away from plus! (just a thought) for poeple who dont want plus but would want this



and a third thing! being able to take over drag and drop transfers to the window, either with a drapg and drop box, or the entire window

the resume function would of been handy for me early as i was sendin a big file wiv messenger and it crashed like 500kb from the end! all in all an ace plugin, ill get it thru me contact list in a tic!!!

well, seems it uses there ip and not there email addy (i should think so) then it shud work. but im not sure cos it relies on plus, but plus stays open if u close messenger so just ask the owner

My download just stopped at 88%, it doesn't say it was cancelled or something it just doesn't go any further.



How do I resume this tranfer if I Cancel it?

i recently installed file transfer plus as per the instructions
however when i type /xsendfile
it brings up the box to choose the file but when i choose open
it then goes to
"Sorry, this command is either not recognised or an error occured during its processing. If this message was not supposed to be a command, please type a double '//' at its beginning"
however it opened the file selection window so its recognised
my friend can run it fine but since my end doesnt work
we cant test the features

As soon as I installed this plugin. Oh dear, my pc messed up. It began constantly restarting due to win32k.sys and I ha to set my pc back to day 1. I'm on xp by the way. Anyone know a reason why?

All I have in transfer plus options are 'which ip would you like to use'
that only lists my local ip (192.168.*.*)
and the port settings (and i'm using open ones)

Then you must download the latest version (1.0 release) here. It has more connection options that may solve the problem. Remember to uninstall your current version first.

still the same problem with that version
i set the ip to my external one and same error
the only thing i noticed this time
(which didnt happen last time)
was that on installation it said msinet.ocx was in use and couldnt be deleted
what else uses that file so i know what process to end ?

ok i ended everything non-essential and it installed fine
but it still comes up with that error when i /xsendfile

im using windows xp pro sp1
AXP 1800+, 512mb ddr, plenty of HD

this is extremely frustrating

edit: using MSN 6.2.0137 and msgplus 3.01.94
my friend uses exactly the same but he doesnt have any problems

When I installed the plugin (and had it active in Plus!) all my transfers slowed down, and didn't 'go' fast (or faster...)

When I deactivated the plugin, the problem was solved. Allthough, I don't have a clue wich version I use, because I can not find a way how to find the version number...

well it is an idea for msgplus4 and some people have sugested it to msgplus to make an addon of it in the next msgplus4 release so dont worry bout it

RicarDog can't you just make a release now? I'm having a lot of trouble with these transfers because of n00bs behind NAT's and stuff.

I agree with Ezra, the bing limitation in the current version is no support nat...
any update available?

I don't know when it's coming out The default command will only change you didn't have the previous version yet, because it will use the command in the plugin's options (that was set in previous version).

Which kind of improvement for Friends list?

Backwards compatibility is not possible from 1.1 to 1.0, there are too many technical changes to turn that possible. But the future versions will be compatible I hope

Friends list should be more throughly worked.......

think about maybe options listing by email or contact. Also to display the Messenger icon to see what their status is. ect

It need to be reworked from a different angle IMO. Of course this is your plugin so if u want leave it as it is lol

Btw I've updated the setup now because, in some cases, the default command could be wrong ("xxtpsend" instead of "xtpsend"). There's no need to update existing installations.

It works very good , only one thing.

When I click on Close this Window when tranfer is complete it closes and that's ok!, but it does not save that you clicked it so next transfer you have to click it again. You'd better make it that it saves it and the next time it automaticly closes the window. And maybe make it go to the sysbar when the transfer starts.

Passive mode wouldnt work for me eather, i had to turn it off before it worked.. i had fun setting up my modem NAT, and my router port forwards for this to work

The Transfer screen doesn't open at the senders side, and I don't know if it's a bug. But the IP adress is not shown with Passive Mode.

The passive transfer mode does not use your IP, instead it shows the IP of your partner when he accepts the transfer. Does the transfer request appear to him? When he accepts, the plugin has to set focus on the conversation window to send a command. Maybe a program is holding focus on another window? It works fine here...

EDIT: Strange, now it worked. Well... Both the transfer windows appeared but the transfer did not started, but I think it's because I tried to use it on my LAN.

I also made a Config picture. Maybe this makes configuring this plugin for N00bs a little easyer

ya i can do that but why not have the program enqueue a list of files to be sent by selecting more than one file or a directory, ziping all the files takes time also and makes the file bigger since all the files i wanna zip ar already compressed

Stuffplus isnt going to help with anything when im sending through this plugin and not msn, i wont use msn for sending files unless its a small image because msg is slower than hell when it comes to sending files.

With msn uploads seem to mak out at about 10kbs, when using this plugin i can hit my full upload speed, and im trying to send out my friend's band's CD to another friend of mine out of state, and having to select each file to send one at a time gets old. and im always sharing files so it would be nice to be able to enqueue files to send by selecting a directory or many files at once, so when the one file finishes the next file would send. this would be used by me, maybe not others, but its just a suggestion.

I have to plan well how that would work (technically), so I think it won't be added for 1.1 release, but maybe for 1.2. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

My connection passes by an University proxy. We can just use HTTP transferts (no ftp, peer-to-peer....)

I've tried the plugin with a friend who has a standard connection.

I use "Detect external IP adress autmatically" (i've also tried to use the proxy adress, but the result was the same). I've tried with and without the passive mode option.

If I try to send a file, in any port, my friend has a "waiting..." or "connection cancelled" mesage.

If he tries to send with port 80, an error message tells him that the port is in use.
If he tries with another port, I don't have any window. There is just some text on MSN that tells me that he has tried to send me something. On his side, he has the window with "waiting connexion"...


Is there something that I can do ? I can't open any other ports, but I don't know how proxies work, so I'm not sure that I can just use port 80...

The port 80 cannot be used probably because there is a web server running on it. So, you'll have to use 'passive mode' to send files. In that mode, it doesn't matter your connection settings (port and IP detection), because it will use your friend's settings, thus he must have an open port and a valid external IP address.

If he's behind a proxy or a connection that blocks inbound requests (i.e. if he cannot send you files too), then you won't be able to send files, unless you find an open port (or shutdown the webserver to use port 80). In that case, you won't need the passive mode anymore (just set the correct options for your connection).

If not, then you have to use passive mode and he must open a local TCP port for inbound traffic in his firewall/etc (like 8030), and set his correct internet IP (the 'detect automatically' should work fine) to support your transfer request.

How about proxy support, so you can just type the adress of the proxy.

I would like to know more about the problems that some people have with passive mode before I release 1.1 BETA, so I can fix any problem that may exist in the current version.

On a side note, the "compression on-the-fly" feature is working fine for the next release. I did some speed tests, and I've found that the transfer speed increases about 100 times for text files, 150% for uncompressed image files (like bmp), and 30% for general uncompressed file types. However, it does not increase the transfer speed of mp3, wma, and other compressed media types. For compressed formats like zip and rar, it may decrease the transfer speed, so I've added an exception list that disables the compression for that files. The list can be edited in the plugin options.

We have tried again. My friend has a firewall, so he opened ports 8040-8080, and used the following settings :

I've seen that passive mode is for sending only, so, before trying, I was already expecting some issues on reception.
And, as I expected, receiving files didn't work. I just have some text on MSN (not even a dialog box tring to establish connection).

If I try to send, some text on MSN tells me that the connection has been accepted (I did't had this text with last settings) but, however, both mine and my friend's dialog box display "Waiting..."


For port 80, it is even stranger because my friend hasn't got any program using this port... (maybe, a firewall or ISP limitation)

Well, I think I won't be able to use this plugin until it would be able to use the proxy support (MSN detects this automatically probably using IE settings), but I keep testing and reporting errors.

What about localized versions of your programme? I'd very much like to see it in Spanish, Greek, Italian, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Hungarian, Finnish, Dutch (in all its forms), etc (in fact, even in Danish)

That would take a lot of time I guess, to find translators and create a good translation. Let him first finish 1.1 before talking about localisation.

I've managed to make the "detect file transfer plus or use standard messenger transfer" feature and it works, but there is a limitation of Messenger/MsgPlus that do not allow you to send a file through messenger if there are more than one contact in the conversation window. I don't know yet if it will be possible to open a separate window (with /im for example) and then do a /sendfile in that window automatically. I'll post here any update on the subject as it become available.

What's New in 1.1 BETA

- Help system, including Help in-place ("What's This?" feature) for the Options window. It can be opened with /xtpHelp.
- Automatic Compression. It may increase the apparent transfer speed beyond your upload bandwidth by compressing the file contents on-the-fly (while sending). The efficiency of this method varies depending on the file type. If it's a text file, the transfer will be about 100 times faster than using uncompressed mode. However, it's not good when sending files already compressed, like zip or mp3. These files have compression disabled by default. See Help for more details.
- New command option to check the existence of File Transfer Plus on the other side. If it's not detected, the transfer will be done by the standard Messenger's file transfer, else File Transfer Plus will be used. To enable checking, type your current "send file" command (such as /xtpSend) followed by a question mark "?" (like /xtpSend?).
- The "send file" command can now receive the path of the file that will be sent (for example, /xtpSend C:\file.txt). In this case, the Open File dialog won't be shown, unless the file specified doesn't exist.
- Option added to the transfer window so you can send the current file through Messenger's file transfer instead.
- Automatic checking for new File Transfer Plus versions. It can be set to check automatically or manually with /xtpUpdate.
- Option to make a different subfolder for each friend when using Auto-accept so their files will be saved there. It can be created in the default save folder or in a custom folder. The subfolder will be named as the contact's email address.
- Option to always close the transfer window when it completes successfully.
- Passive mode improved, and added a new command to workaround possible failures when accepting the transfer. When it fails (such as the accept message being sent to the wrong window), just type /xtpAccept in the correct window. Also, when sending a transfer request, you can use "/xtpCancel number" to cancel the request, where number is the transfer code (for example, /xtpCancel 1).
- Various cosmetic improvements in the transfer window and Options window.
- Auto-complete support for default save folder textboxes in the Options window.
- A lot of bug fixes and other improvements.

I've been testing this plugin for a while, and I can honestly say its excellent. It laughs in the face of MSN transfers

Of course since both contacts need to have the plugin I suggest everyone here download it and get it shared!!

I installed the new beta. Everything went OK but when it restarted Messenger after installing, it turned out to be Windows Messenger that started instead of MSN Messenger. LOL, haven't seen that one for years!! What's up?

It may be a bug in the Setup script I'll look at it.

hmm could you "hook" this plugin so that when i press the standard "Send Files" button in a MSN Messenger window it trys to use FTPlus and if it doesnt find that the other person has it it automatically goes to the normal MSN transfer system.

Another thing for the next release could you implant some code so it can be overinstalled on a 1.0 version? Or if it detects a 1.0 version it auto uninstalls it and then installs 1.1 It because i tell people to uninstall 1.0 first but they dont do it and overinstall and then transfers usually dont work.

I shared it with a friend, far away from me. He has the latest version of MSN messenger and Messenger Plus. But the plugin won't show up in the Messenger Plus Options. He has installed it twice but at no avail. The "Allow Plugin on  this account" is set.
I am not able to find out why it won't show up on his computer. Mine is working fine, and the FileTransferPlus is also the only Plugin that he has.
Any ideas?

Update: After a third installation and a reboot the Plugin is finally there, but when transferring, nothing happens on his side. When he transfers, my receive dialogue pops up but bothing gets transfered. He has a public IP and no firewall. No answer on Ping, and Traceroute times out. Talked to his ISP today and they block only Port 445. Other IP's in his range and is online are Pingable. Could it be cable or hardware? Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks Ricardog, but he is already in Passive Mode.
Another odd thing is that when he tries to configure, the Interface always pops up under all other windows wich gave him a headache because it was impossible for him to reach it so he used the powerbutton to get out of that imposssible situation several times. Perhaps something went wrong because of that.

The Config window opens as a modal dialog for the conversation window (or the MsgPlus window) that was used to open it, so giving focus to that window will also give focus to the Config window.

Does he have Windows Messenger installed on the computer? Sometimes the Messenger API won't work without it, usually causing strange bugs...

Aha, well that could be it. He has the Windows Messsenger that is bundled with Windows XP Pro. Perhaps it is too old. I'll check that with him.

I'll add an option to select between the new "/xtpsend?" command, which checks the existence of the plugin first, and the "/xtpsend" command, which uses File Transfer Plus directly, for the Send File button behavior.

I tried send a WMA with Japanese filename to my friend through the plugin. The plugin could locate my file, but unfortunately the Japanese filename in the file transfer dialog shows garbled texts. My friend also complain that he only saw "???????" filenames without any Japanese.

Also, "Friend List" in the options page shows garbled texts.


We are both Windows XP users. I believe that Windows XP and Microsoft profucts support multi-language.

I think the font of the file transfer plusgin is Tahoma, so supporting multi-language is a great issue.

That depends on the maximum speed your internet has... If you have a 56k, I don't think it can be much more... But with a DSL you should get far more... But it doesn't only depend on your internet, also the others

First of all, with older version both of us, me or my friend did not get any accepc window. Or it did not accept automatically.

ANd another friend with win XP and newer versions.. Well, it installed, but he couldn't use it. It did not appear to messenger Plus! in anyplace. Commands did not come in use.

In other words, it was installed, installation did nothing more that copied bunch of files without meaning to /messenger Plus! 3/Plugins

Yet no one of us has gotten nothing more than headache.

No, that event does not generate a system message that can be intercepted. I don't know any other way to change the MSN file transfer behavior.

The transfer starts in my window, it send the file informations to my contact:

But no window lauches at my contact's, we've reinstalled it both but it doesn't work anymore!...

There is a way to know when the file request is received, but I can only simulate a click on Accept or Decline (I can't change the save folder directly). But if it's possible, I think it should be a feature for MsgPlus instead of File Transfer Plus.

Good news: File Transfer Plus (at least the 1.1 Pre-Release version that I'm testing, but I'm pretty sure that 1.1 BETA also) seems to be one of the few plugins (for me, the only ) to be 100% compatible with MSN Messenger 7 Beta and Messenger Plus! 3.40 Beta.

i send a file(name- XXX.abc) to my friend,and just cancel it.
then i send the file again,and he receives it as a new file (name -
XXX1.abc).it seems that File Transfer Plus renames the file.

when we used 1.0BETA ,we didnt have a such problem.it was
automatically overwritten.

OH yes another question: Is it ok with MSN 7? Remember the "Send File" hooking i suggested and all that....

The help file is about 70% finished... it will be released in a few days if everything goes well

I haven't tried hooking with MSN 7 yet, but it should be easy to fix if it's not working...

A bug which could cause this problem has been fixed for 1.1 Release. Unfortunately there is no workaround for the Beta version.

I can understand people being impatient. I love this plugin too. But the final release will only be out when its ready. RicarDog is a refreshing developer who only releases stuff when its polished to perfection, and not a buggy release before.

Here's the bug. I used a polygamy patch so I can loggin with 2 messengers with 2 accounts. The first messenger I start has the File Transfer Plus plugin but the second messenger I start doesn't.. That's realy too bad cause the plugin rocks! I don't have this problem with other plugins like stuffplug.

Hope it can be fixed.

I have this problem too. I can send files to ppl who use same version of msn messenger and file transfer plus, but I always can't receive files from them.

Well, you aren't alone.

Shutting firewall seems can't not slove the problem. Just wait for the final release ....

File Transfer Plus 1.1 RELEASE is out! I hope it's a good Christmas gift for you!

Many things have been fixed (see first post of this thread for a complete list). I'll wait a few days before releasing it through the File Transfer Plus Updater, so I can fix any problem that was not detected by the testers. After that, I'll also upload it to the Downloads section of MsgPlus Plugins.

For the next version I plan more Transfer options like speed limit, and a new History manager. Also sound support for various events and other nice stuff

hmm, had to install windows messenger in order to get file transfer plus 1.1 working... didn't needed it for the beta.

I have to why File Transfer Plus has to run Windows Messenger after the setup. Is it necessary to keep it open?

And one more thing, could installing runtime file could solve the runtime errors?

I still cannot use transfer plus 1.1 release,, I can install it and "use" it, but when I'm traying to send or receive a file it only says Awating connection, or something like that and the transfer never started. Both have MSN messenger 6.2 the latest Msg PLus! and transfer plus 1.1 release

In my firewall I allow ALL to MSN messenger and its plug ins

Don't think so, in both cases we allowed ALL MSN messenger related things to access the internet

I formated my harddisk and reinstalled Windows XP just for the this new version of File Transfer Plus. I uninstalled it completely before the format.

Windows Messenger is not better MSN Messenger based on the functions.

Because of this chance, I have a new start of using the system. Thx to this plugin. -_-"

It seems that solving the problems to get it working is a very time-consuming job .

In my case, I don't have any errors when opening MSN messenger or traying to use the transfer plus 1.1 release plug-in. It is just that  the transfer doesn't not start never, it keeps on saying Awating connection.

I am having the same problem I can't send anything using this plugin I can recieve all day long but it will always say awaiting connection. I have tried switching it to passive mode but when I do NOTHING happens at all when I try to send all it will do is sent the message saying what is being sent then nothing happens. I am behind an NAT so I know that can be causing a problem...

Could you read the Troubleshooting section of File Transfer Plus help, at "connection and transfer problems" section, and try to do all steps listed there? Tell me if it still does not work please.

A very nice plugin. But there is one thing thats bugging me:
I've got the cache msgr send file events on, but when i try to send a screenshot with SSS3 it first tries to locate File transfer plus. Coz the other persons doesnt have FTP it uses the Msgr send file function. But then it says that it cant find the screenshot file, and stops at the My Documents dir.

Urm..by my knowledge the latest; 3.0.555 =/.
But the interception aint the problem. eg Drag and drop works perfectly, but when i try it with ss3 it just cant find the file when trying to send it through the normal msn transfer

The problem was the IP configuration, it was pointing to another one, but I've chosen mine and my friend, too. Both have the same settings, the same ISP, the same all

What could be the problem??

I also tried to shut down the firewall but it was useless, the same problem.. so I don't think it could be the firewall.

AFAIK SS3 deletes the temporary files at the end of each computer session so when you turn your PC off they go aswell


as for FT+, I tested this with myself using windows messenger4.7  and msn 7 using 2 different emails both worked correctly

when i tried this with a mate though we get the awaiting connection error that previous members have mentioned.

i have configured zonealarm pro correctctly AFAIK and I haven't the foggiest what is going wrong (possibly incorrect configuration his end, he is rather less skilled on a computer)

oh also some buttons are incompatible with my current theme, they display as a black block any ideas as to how i could

a) fix my theme
b) fix the error
c) you adjust the program

well i'm using a longhorn theme i think its from windows x but i'm not too sure

Not only with longhorn theme or visual stylel I'm using Phanter visual style and it's the same problem with these labels

From FileTransferPlus Feature List:
- Ability to set a default save folder (media files can have a different default save folder), also a separate folder can be made for each contact;

Does separate folder for each contact work if the sender doesn't use ftp plugin (because he hasn't it for example) but the receiver (me) use it?

Everything goes fine until it's actually time to send, then nothing happens.
I don't mind saving and then sending after, but just wanted to see if anyone else has this or has experienced the same.

I  downloaded the plugin last night, installed it and I have a problem. When I try to send a file to a contact, or they try to send on to me, we get an error message saying -

Run-time Error '7'
Out Of Memory


Any idea's on how to fix it?

i get the FT+ box appear saying awaiting connection

Bob says the file isn't working

*weird i think its not sent it yet*

.......i have down loaded and installed 'File transfer plus 1.1'' - just as recomended above ^...... and i have also shared it with a a few of my contacts......but....they dont have msg plus....so do they need 2 have msg plus in order for ''file transfer plus 1.1' to work...ANNNDD....since i have installed ''file transfer plus''... i kepp on gettin an 'error' message saying that ''The process cannot acces the file because it is being used by another process''......this happens nearly every few minutes (eg: like when i click on something etc)....and its irratating....is this linked to 'file transfer plus 1.1' ???......or is it something else.....because this problem only started hapening since i installed ''file transfer 1.1''....any1 tell me ?......and i wanna know how much fatser it is....so how long do ya think it would take for 6/7mb file(music mp3) on 300k broadband??????....or does it like 1/2 the time...or is it 30% quicker et etc ???

no idea if I'm doin this right  but I have a problem..... whenever I try to send a file one of the following occurs....either I get an error message saying runtime error 7 out of memory or when the box comes up it  says  awaiting connection. The person I am trying to send to/ receive from is getting the same responses.

Is there a way to prevent the windows messenger from showing up in the tray? It's kind of stupid to have 2 messengers open... I understand that the plugin uses "stuff" form windows messenger, but is it really necessary to have it open in the tray?

i have a few problems with the plugin .

i've installed the msn 4.7 first and then de msn7.0 when i opend the plugin to take a look at the options the options were black i can't read them


I've workt all day to get that plugin working and finnaly on day two it worked! but still the options are black.

Then problem two , i have no sound anymore from de msn7.0 even the email event doesn't work and when i have sound its from the 4.7 how can that happen? i like the msn 7.0 with sounds .

Can anyone help me on this? i realy love this plugin because i can download with 150 kbs from my contacts. Also if the file is over 1.2 gig big i download with verry high speed

Sorry for the long delay, I was upgrading my computer and reinstalling everything The fixed version (includes fix for black options and out of memory error) will be out ASAP.

There is one workaround for the out of memory error: delete the file "transferplus.exe.manifest" under MsgPlus\Plugins\FileTransferPlus\ folder. It may however disable xp style for the transfer window.

that's okay, i deleted the file and it works but still have no sounds .

i made onother account on my pc and i looked into the soundlist from windows and there it was ...... all the sounds of msn messenger  but when i returned to my account i had no sound in the list ,that's verry strange


do you have another suggestion? i dont mind to copie everything to that other account but still want to know how that can happen and how to fix it .(i'm also a verry msn freak) and would like to know.

I recomended every one in my contact list to use this plugin because it's a GREAT plugin

B. Knows how to install/congiure it.
C. Can be bothered with it

The contacts who i have sent it to just get errors and it don't work. so i must use the msn default sending feature

my upload is really slow i get 2-3kb max can you please please implement multiple connections because i am the 1 usualy sending things to my friends through msn but the slow speed is really annoying, when the send something it comes down at flying speeds, great plugin

Well my first taster of this plugin was version 1.1.04, and I've got to say I loved it!!

Got my contacts to install it and it made sending files via MSN Messenger between us a breeze!! (for once!!)

I was really looking forward to the next release and whatever goodies it had to offer, but un-fortunately I wish the new version had never happened!!

Coinciding with the release of the 1.1.06 version I now find my 1.1.04 versions won't work any more? (all my contacts have kept the older version too) so am I correct in thinking you've nobbled the old version coz you want everyone to upgrade to the new release?

I wouldn't have minded updating but I DON'T WANT WINDOWS MESSENGER INSTALLED ON MY PC!!! and frankly I feel I can say with confidence I'm not the only person to feel this way.

Whilst I fully appreciate your programming efforts, and the months of care free file transfers you've helped on their way, I really think you should both give people a choice as to whether they want to upgrade, and think long and hard about making it compulsory to have a piece of crap like Windows Messenger installed on their PC?!?!

First off, many thanks to Markus for pointing me towards the old version 1.0 of Transfer Plus!!   Not installed it yet, but I will later.

Now to RicarDog, thanks for replying to my post.  My problem started when the new version of TP was released a few days ago, I received the automated message informing me there was now a new version, so I figured I'd update?

During the update I don't recall reading anything that pointed to the fact that I'd need Windows Messenger installed on my PC? if so I wouldn't have installed it, did I miss something here?

Once MSN Messenger  was restarted I then got the pop-up telling me the Transfer Plus Plugin couldn't run due to the absence of Windows Messenger?!?

I un-installed TP 1.1.06, and re-installed version 1.1.04 Beta, but now find the Transfer never works, if I try to send a file, the other person gets the text info in their MSN Messenger chat window as if a transfer is about to take place, along with the Windows "Chord" sound (indicating a problem?) at my side the Transfer window that opens is just left with "Awaiting connection..." message, and it goes no further?!

My understanding is that the Messenger system built in to XP and Windows Messenger are separate entities? (although obviously Windows Messenger uses the Messenger System to do it's stuff?)

I found having Removed Windows Messenger I no longer received Messenger spam via the Net.   I have MSN Messenger running on my PC all the time, yet no longer receive Messenger Spam, so I've no intention of putting Windows Messenger back on my Puter!!

(I used xp-AntiSpy, not just Add/Remove Programs which only seems to remove the short-cut for this app? further more, xp-AntiSpy shows the removal of Windows Messenger and the Messaging System as two separate processes?)

I can't say I've found ANY part of MSN Messenger that won't work due to the absence of Windows Messenger on my system?

I look forward to a Transfer Plus "Lite" that will run without Windows Messenger!! Hope it comes soon!!

(On a separate note, I know someone accessing the net through a router, we've never been able to get TP running on their system, what would they have to do to get things working? with the default TCP port range between 8030 and 8040, would they have to open all ports between these figures on their router to get TP to work?)

I've found it can be difficult to get some peeps to just un-tick the correct box using xp-AntiSpy to rip out WM at the roots?!?!

I can't understand why 1.1.04 has ground to a halt? just a thought, but would it have been possible for me to send a file to someone if they still had Windows Messenger on their puter, keeping in mind I didn't have it at my side?

Anyhoo, I've now installed TP v1.0 and that works a treat!!  The only thing missing is an ability to encrypt the IP address, other than that I'd be completely happy with that

Now, I have disabled windows messenger according to the proper method shown on the forums by cookierevised. I am wondering if this is a limitation of file transfer plus, or did I accidentally miss a step when hiding windows messenger.

One bug I found when trying to un-install v1.1 is after un-installing, only the entry for TP in Add/Remove Progs and details of the Plugin in Messenger Plus! were removed, all the essential files for it were left in the Plugin folder, so each time I tried to re-install TP wouldn't run the setup wizard, coz it had retained all the old settings from the previous install?

Could something like this have happened for you?

Alternatively, migrate back to the old version 1.0 of TP? or just wait for the new release that won't need Windows Messenger, and rip that sucker out by the roots!!

Hey guys, i got a problem...

I recently downloaded File Transfer but the 'progress' just stays at 'Awaiting Connection...'

How do i get it working

That's probably not the issue. Lappin, make sure you both have your ip and stuff filled in properly @ properties and make sure the 'sender' has a open port.

I installed the new file transfer plus 1.1 R on my computer but when i opened messenger after it installed i got an error message saying "File Transfer Plus could not be loaded because Windows Messenger is not correctly installed on your system.Please reinstall it and try again."

Good job! I've sent the plugin to a lot of my friends and we use it all the time. Keep up the great work.

Just check if you still have all the files in 'Program Files\Messenger' folder including the msmsgs.exe. If you still have them, it's no problem.

How did you remove WM? I'd have thought by going to Add/Remove Progs, then Add/Remove Windows Components, you should be able to re-tick the Windows Messenger box, this should put the default WM supplied with XP back in to your system?


That said, it may just pay to be patient and wait for the next release of File Transfer Plus that wont need WM to be installed!!

Actually it's done, but I get a database error when trying to update the file attachment.

Only bad part so far: when I installed the plugin, windows messenger started , and I really dont like having it in my system tray...... , i tried deactivating the plugin, and removing windows messenger as Cooki Revised said, and then activating the plugin again. Sad to say: no difference, windows messenger still popped up in system tray, and it wouldn't go away

this thing never works for me.  i trying sending something using /xtpsend and the person says nothing ever shows up for them.  and when someone sends me something i can never get FTP to catch it and open it in its window.  im using MSN Messenger 7.0 (it didnt work when i had 6.2 either)

that might just be that windows messenger is set to run at startup in the background.

Not it's not, cuz it only starts with FT+. (Because I completly disabled it, it's not there @ Xp startup).

BTW.. it keeps running in the background even when I close msn messenger.

It will still use Windows Messenger in background if available, so it can better interact with Messenger settings and some functions are more efficient.

I've found I can only use the new release by putting Windows Messenger back on the systems I'm trying to use FTP on

On the systems in question, I have COMPLETELY removed Windows Messenger using xp-AntiSpy, and though it seemed at first it may work as the transfer box does open both sides, the transfer doesn't actually begin, I get a message of Starting Transfer... but things go no further.

I re-installed Windows Messenger on one PC then tried sending a file (other than re-instating WM I made no other changes to how FTP, or anything else for that matter was configured) and the transfer flew!!

Seems it's closer to working without Windows Messenger, but it's definitely not there yet

I like the way this latest build integrates in to Messenger automatically picking up the Send File click, really sweet! but until this problem of NOT NEEDING Windows Messenger is resolved, I'm afraid I'll be ditching the plugin.

Hope removing WM is not an insurmountable problem?  I look forward to seeing how things proceed?

Don't suppose there'd be any chance of a tweaked version 1.0 in the mean time would there? with an ability to encrypt the displayed IP addy I reckon this would do just fine for now?

Strange, I'll investigate this now.

Anyway why do you want to use 1.0 versions? You can still use 1.1 ALPHA or 1.1 BETA which are much more advanced than the 1.0 versions.

Simple, coz v1.0.02 is the only build I've used which can be used completely independent from Window Messenger

I know v1.0 is basic, and I'd much rather be using the latest v1.1.07 build, but I don't want Windows Messenger loaded on my puter! simple as that! and thus far, the only build that can fit this criteria is v1.0

How come you felt this latest build would function without WM?  Have you tried it on a machine that doesn't have WM installed (I mean completely removed! my tool of choice is xp-AntiSpy, it ripps WM out at the roots and leaves no chance of it creeping back in to your OS!! )

I'd been really looking forward to this latest build, Hope you can help out in someway?

As you expected,we Japanese user also could configure the settings.

But now we have another serious problem that didnt exist before.
When I try to send the file named by Japanese letters,the recipient receives the error messege like 'exceptional file name' and he can't accept the file.
If I rename the file to totally alphabetical,we have no problems.

In the pop-up window of FTPlus,Japanese file names are sometimes garbled.Yes,such garbling happend since Ver.1.0,
but the file itself could be sent with no problem(surely accepted file's name were also correct).

I think these problem is related to the Unicode support for displaying foreign nicknames and file names in 1.1.0.5.
Personally I don't care if the file names are garbled,as long as I can send the files.
I and my friends are using Windows XP(don't know if these informations are useful.)

Hoca, I'm not able to reproduce the problem you have. Probably it's a firewall setting or something like that. I've sent you a PM with my MSN so we cant test.

aolei, I think that will be fixed in a future release. Some internal functions do not accept Unicode characters so I'll have to rewrite them.

With RicarDog's assistance I finally got the latest 1.1.07 to work on my puter.

Seems all my problems stemmed from Norton 2005 Firewall not liking the new build? (not sure if this is an oddity of my puter or a bug with Norton's Firewall?)

It found the plugin automatically, and I granted access to the net, but no go? or I should say partial go?!?!  sometimes go, sometimes not depending on certain conditions?

The thing that seemed to finally fix things for me was to manually create a rule for full TCP in/outbound traffic.  Just odd I've never needed to do this for version 1.0 of Transfer Plus? or any other app either?

So if any others are struggling to get Transfer Plus to work, check your Firewall settings carefully?

Must say now it's working fully, it's nice to be able to use the latest build, and 1.1.07 does definitely work without Windows Messenger!! (which is nice! )

I found that the latest version of File Transfer Plus breakes my MSN. When I install it, MSN opens back up. And freezes. Plus! doesn't load with it and MSN stops. I have to kill it to bring it back. The only way I found to stop this from happening is to uninstall File Transfer Plus. I don't want to do that!

I have the latest MSN 6 version and the latest non-beta Plus!. Running on XP sp1.

When you install File Transfer Plus, then reinstall Messenger Plus!, i did that and it works fine.

I cant get this plugin to work at all. i don't even get the file dialog to popup when i try either the /xsendfile cmd or drag and drop. all it does is send the /xsendfile cmd to the window and nothing happens..

The commands in Messenger Plus! don't work for MSN Messenger 7.0.0604 and above. You have to wait until Wednesday for the final release of Messenger Plus! 3.50 for full compatibility

1: add a right-click send with FT+ -> online ppl, maybe queue up offline users somehow if thats even possible.. so when the log on the transfer starts

2: get it to be able to send whole dirs instead of just 1 file / time

Plug-in looks great, so installed it.

I got a friend to send a file, and nothing comes up. Just acts like normal. But when I send him a file, the plug in box comes up with the info.. but he cannot see the file being sent to him, just a load of text.
I did notice when I installed the plug in I had a box appear saying "File MSWINSCK.OCX is being used" I hit ignore, don't know if that has anything to do with it? What's using that file?

Are you using the latest version (1.1 RELEASE) available on the first page of this thread? The version available in the Plugins page (1.1 BETA) had some issues like the one you describe.

Also, have you (and your friend) tried to reinstall the plugin?

I'm also getting a Runtime Error 53 each time I open MSN Messenger.

A suggestion for the next version of this would be to tab the transfers. I know it's possible to minimize them all to systray but it would be nice to have a nice organised one-window file transfer box, possibly with tabs or sections marked out for each different transfer instead of a new transfer window for every file being sent.

If you're having problems with File Transfer Plus then first thing to consider is - Are you using ZoneAlarm (Free or Pro) as your Firewall?

I recently switched to Sygate and since then have had no problems with sending files (both via Messenger and also using File Transfer Plus) so it seem's the problem lies within ZoneAlarm (Great for beginners and those that don't do much more than browsing on the web, but has it's faults - I used it for about 6yr's but realised it was time to go for something that gave me a bit more control) and not the program itself.

The only problem now remaining for me is that the person the other end can still only receive files and not send as they're using ZoneAlarm at present. (It does still load Windows Messenger however [msmsgs.exe] for me aswell so i'd guess that still need's some work? )

Now that it finally work's though i've found it to be an excellent program and recommend it highly!

It's normal to have msgmsgs.exe in the processes, but it shouldn't start Windows Messenger (never happened to me). Are you sure you've set WinMsgr not to start automatically?

Does File Transfer Plus ignore the blocked ext's in MSN 7 or does MSN 7 not let it trhu?

About ZoneAlarm... I don't recommend it to anyone, even beginners. I've seen that ZA can be actually a security issue. A hacker who starts a DoS attack (like packet storm) against someone with ZA installed will make it hang (100% CPU use), making your computer very slow and the connection will drop. Without ZA, you'll experience lag but it's harder to get your connection dropped.

The plugin will use msmsgs.exe if available in C:\Program Files\Messenger for better integration with MSN Messenger. But it will run as a background process, so it shouldn't signin instead of MSN Messenger.

Yes, I have it installed on my computer besides MSN 7 and it works fine.

It should work fine if you delete it, but maybe other plugins might not work correctly (also MSN uses it when you ask for Remote Assistance or App Sharing). You can try to rename the folder Program Files\Messenger to Messenger2 and see if everything works fine.

Ok, I have version 1.1.8 running on the current version of msn and plus and here's my problem:

Files wont auto send when I drag and drop in the message window, I need to select send through msn from the popup window. Once that happens, I never get a speed indicator, and even when msn says the file is done the transferplus window still says awaiting connection.

I also get no speed indicator on recieve of files, and it never sorts by contact even though I have that box checked and have selected the default recieve files folder as the place where I want stuff sent. What gives?

Starforce2, the latest version (1.1.9) should fix your problem.

Currently I'm releasing this update only on this forum, and if everything goes right I'll send it to the updater in a few days.

Hi, i think there is a bug in this plugin, well it looks like it. Basically what happens, is when i have it installed, and i then open a second msn messenger (whatever means is used, eg. patches, jrnzloader, stuff-ng plugin), currently using stuff-ng2 plugin, the second msn messenger crashes.

Yet if i uninstall file transfer plus plugin it works fine. Note that it either crashes right away or if a persons name is clicked for chat.

If you would be able to try this out and fix it that would be great .

The versions im using:
MSN Messenger 7.0.0777
Messenger Plus! 3.52.130

Using Stuff-ng2 Plugin (Version 2.2.119) for polygamy
And only other plugin i got on MsgPlus is WMPLUS2 (for showing the song that is playing in wmp)

I got a popup message saying a new version of the plugin was available so I downloaded it.

I found with previous version when a person sent a file MSN would "automatically" decline it.  Is there a way to allow certain file extensions to allow. 

(e.g. jpg, gif, zip etc..)

Does MSN Messenger offer a scan before files are transfered to a user to detect any attached viruses?  Or do we have to rely on our own anti-virus to find problems?

With technology these days you think before a file transfer is established MSN would scan for a virus detection, they do it in Hotmail so it could work the same, yes?

Please let me know.  Also with this plugin does the other user need to have it installed also to have it to work?

If so it's a bit of a pain, surely there could be a work-around for this.?.?.?

My messenger is version 7 build 7.0.0777 and i use MSG Plus version 3.52.130.

But after I installed the new version of File Transfer Plus, The plugin doesn't appear in my MGS Plus plugins list or anywhere else...

Dunno if anybody else had this problem. I tried searching but didn't get any results...

Please help me as this seems to be a really cool plugin

Well... AT first i just installed the new version via the updater. My previous version was 1.1.04...

So I updated from an old version 1 to the newest which shouldn't create any problems??

When do you think you can make the Proxy Support? I would really like this

As mentioned before if you had version 1 you need to uninstall it and download the "new" version (latest) and install it.  Make sure when you install it that MSN Messenger is completely not in the taskbar or loaded.  So log off and close it completely off. 

Now intall it. 

Reboot MSN Messenger and bingo it should show up!  If not uninstall it again and try again.  If fails than there are some unknown problems with the setup.

The User that i send the file have the plugin installed i try to send a .mp3 and a .rar
I dont understand a thing...i can send all type of file to a user with this plugin or only txt o jpg file ?

Try to send it with passive mode, and you can send any file you like

Hello, I've read all the pages and I think this a great plugin, even though I've yet to try it, it sounds great, but just a little suggestion... or maybe it's just cuz I'm a bit dense, but even though I read all the requirments and read all the pages, I had a friend install it and it did't work, when I went back and read the requirments it was obvious she needed msg plus! I just took it for granted that she had it installed. Any chance you can have TP detect if you have it installed and if not give you the option of installing it or atleast letting you know, during the installation that you need it?

The problem seems to be your ISP blocking port 8030, or your hardware somehow blocks it even with firewall disabled. If you want, we can test it better to find the exact problem. PM me to add me to your msn.

That limitation is of MSN Messenger. You can however send any file extension via File Transfer Plus (both parts must have the plugin installed).

Sometimes it works if you restart MSN twice after installing the plugin. You can also check the help file located in the plugin folder, it has some info about that problem.

I don't know when proxy will be supported. One of the "advantages" of the Messenger transfer system is that it natively supports proxy and totally firewalled connections, the drawback is the poor transfer performance. I'll have to rethink many things (for instance the open port is fixed, and there are different types of proxies such as HTTP, socks4, socks5). I'll let you know when I have news about this.

Hi, I have a big problem with this plug-in... It crashes my msn (7.0.0813). The crash happens just when I open any conversation window, the msn closes inmediately, without prompting any error . So I have to open my msn again and it don't crash. Could you help me please? Because it's a great plug-in and I don't want to unnistall it!!!!

I removed any trace of FT Plus and triede to reinstall it. After it was installed i restarted MSN Messenger twice... Still no FT Plus .

And couldn't find any info in the help file that were of any use ...

I have the last version of MSN (7.0.0813) and the last version of File Transfer Plus (1.1.0.9). My computer is an Asus a7v8x-x, Athlon XP 2000+, 256 ram, geforce 4.... It's not too old.
It doesn't show any error information; It just close msn when I open a conversation window for the first time. Sometimes, I happens more than once. If you have any little program to trace the error source, tell me about.

pc-1 have an ip fixe=192.168.0.10
pc-2 have an ip fixe=192.168.0.11
point wifi have an ip fixe=192.168.0.2
router have an ip fixe=192.168.0.1

i open nat 8030 to 8040 in the router ---> pc-1

but the pc-2 don't want to transfert. so
i open nat 8050 to 8060 in the router ---> pc-2 an configure transfer+ to the news port. but no transfert too

what can i do or how i can configure it to the PC-2

Hello, I have the same problem that was mentioned with someone else earlier concerning this message "Sorry, we did not recognise this command.  If it wasn't meant to be a command then make it //'
We both have the latest ftplus and we both have msgplus installed. We are both using winxp and we tried changing the connection settings. I didn't find if the OP found a solution as it was never mentioned. Could anyone help?
Also, does it matter in what order the plugins are installed.. i.e. msgplus then ftplus or ftplus then msgplus?

Ok, no one seems to know the answer to my question so I went ahead and experimented a bit.. and it appears it does matter in what order you install msgplus and ftplus. I had my friend remove both programs from her pc.. install first msgplus then install ftplus and now......TATAAAAAA.... it worked absolutely fine.

Finally I have tried you plugin, works great... I can-t imagine it getting any better int he next release...

Naturally you install Plus! before a plugin that uses Plus!  Otherwise how will the plugin know where to point to ?  It will obviously produce errors as it won't see a plus directory or files associated to it.

So Plus! than a plugin in that order always.

So Messenger, Plus!, Plus! plugin. 

That's like saying I'll install ICQ for windows without a windows operating system.  (won't work)

Hi folks, I using XP SP2 with FTP 1.1.9, Plus! 3.54.132 & Messenger 7.0.0813. 

When I try to send a file by clicking on 'Send' in the Conversation Window, the command '/xtpsend' is sent to my friend as plain text, but no FTP dialog box appears.

I looked at the 'TransferPlusLogEXE.txt' in the plugin dir and it reads

'[19:07:59] Init Arguments:
[19:07:59] No arguments found. Exiting...'

That seems fatal, but I don;t know how to fix it !!  Any help would be appreciated, this is my first go with what looks like a great app.

I think the problem of MSN crashing when a chat window is opened during startup is fixed for the next release.

Does it happen only when you use the Send button or also when you type /xtpsend on the chat window?

If you use the plugin directly (i.e. using /xtpsend) there will be no limitation on the file type you send.

Which I posted somewhere else in the forum, but no one who knows how to make plugins answered. Is there anyway to create something similiar to ftplus but using the webcam. I'm sure msn messenger doesnt use its full bandwidth for the webcam. Do you know if you can create a plugin that bypasses the msn protocal and goes straight to pnp connection with the webcam? I don't know crap about that type of programming but hope you can let me know.

The problem I am having now is once or twice a week (I use MSN daily) I get a error message that MSN Messenger needs fixing and I can fix the problem temp or fix it for good.  Problem is fixing it for good does not achieve the exact outcome.  I re-appears at random times.  WHat causes this? 

I have uninstalled msn, plus, etc and reinstall but it seems to do the same.  Is this a Messenger Plus error or MSN Messenger error?

To do this the plugin would need to show you the cam and it can't be shown in the standard msn place. so Technically it could be done, but it would be a cam program that has not much to do with msn only that it tells the ip and that it should start...

Thanks for the answers. I guess the reason I ask is because since everyone I know has msn messenger, it's convinient to just tell them, hey download this little plugin and our webcam session will be much faster instead of having to download a whole new program. I guess it's just more out of convinience.

how would you use this program with a router and more than 1 computer system using it?

me and a friend both have routers and 2 systems each. in order to get this to work we had to have the router forward ports 8040-8050 to our system's IP but then if we would get on our second computer we would need to change the router to be able to send files.

is there a way around this?

The best is to make FTPlus detect the IP itself.....

If it doesnt work then use the other avalible mode for connection (dont remember right now...)

I'm having the exact same problem as NicolasDalby. If I use some older version (the one you can download from msgplus plugins section) it works, but if I update to the latest version, it doesn't. And yes, I have tried to uninstall/reinstall messenger, msgplus and file transfer plus. Nothing seems to help I noticed that my messenger is not responding for some time after startup when the non-working plugin is installed, if that's of any help..

The new build is now available. I hope this is the last one before 1.2.

you know, I installed this and it never did anything. It killed my auto accept, never game speed of transfer up or down and never sorted files by contact, I'd like to know what went wrong. I finaly disabled it because I felt it was worthless..it wont do anything. Does it need the other person to ahve it as well or what?

And I just uploaded. All my contact gets when I try to send is the filesize and crap (all the text) but ntohing to accept unless I select file on the transferplus popup and "send through messenger" so it finaly gives him the file and nothing happens in the window. Transfer like anything else, and after the file is complete, the popup is still there and I hafta click cancel in which it asks me if I want to cancle the already completed file LOL.

Anyway, I forgot to update the version posted on this thread to 1.1.11, released on September 14th. It's now updated with the following changes:

- Messenger should not freeze anymore during startup under some circunstances.
- Fixed a bug in Automatic IP detection which caused the transfer not to start even when the IP was detected correctly.
- A few minor fixes.

Question/Problem:

My PC has a fix IP behind a router. So is my fren's. Everytime we use this /xtpsend. We're unable to connect. kept saying "waiting for connection" I have chosen to use external IP. So is my fren. Using Passive doesn't work as well.

However file transfer within local area network is super fast!

Should we do any port forwarding at the router to solve to problem?

I'm wondering if you could help me out. I'm getting a weird error message when I try to send a file with the plugin (the picture is in the attachment) ... it installs all right, everything seems to be fine, then that happens.

i'm thinking it's an error with XP Service Pack 1 (because it worked fine on my other fully updated computer) but I don't know for sure. If i press cancel a few times the transfer window opens but is stuck on 'awaiting connection...' forever, the other person never recieves the window to allow them to connect.

I'm really sorry if this has been discussed before but there's 47 pages on this thread and I can't go through all of them.

Remember everyone who gets errors that both the sender and receiver have to have transferplus installed. Remember that transfer plus is an add on to messegner plus, so you have to install msgplus first then transferplus. I fixed my errors by doing what I mentioned before and thought I'd pass them along.

Hi, sorry if the question as already be asked but I read the 5 last pages, not the 47...

So the matter is that when I use the /xtpsend? command to check if the contact has the plug-in, after a while there is the same window that guanako had, but I noticed in the writing field there was /xtptomsné and when I launch a transfer and use the function "Send threw MSN" the command used is /xtptomsn and it works, I think it's an error made with the "é"...Notice that I'm french, using a french version of MSN and of Messenger Plus!, maybe the "é" is an error in the french translation...
I've got the 1.1.11 File Transfer Plus RELEASE, The last MSN Messenger and the last Messenger Plus!...

And another error I've noticed is when I use a multiline nick with the StuffPlug option, the Transfer Window doesn't open...I think it's a matter with the return key...

A last thing: on www.filetransferplus.com there is a phpBB critical error...

Does the plugin appear on the Plus! menu? If so, please check the configuration (the send file command) and try again. If not, probably it's not installed correctly. Try reinstalling and see if it works.

dude chill out it wasnt even vista is WB5, but i guess im not getting any help here, i have to reinstall it all the time so it works for at least one time, but o well, lets just wait for an update or another pluging maybe.

Uninstall WB5 and see if the error is still there.
WindowsBlinds is very well known to cause all sort of problems in many applications.

Also, take a look in the log files generated by the plugin. You can find them on C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\Plugins\FileTransferPlus\, or equivalent install path. Open the file TransferPlusLogDLL.txt and search for any error messages, it may help in solving the problem.

does the file have a trojan horse or is it just me cuz i cant dl it and when i click on the link it gives me a message saying the file has a trojan horse in it. im using avast! 4 free so.. might wanna check with it.. =/

File is clean according to every anti-virus software in Jotti's malware scan, except Avast. It must be a fake alert.

This is a great idea, no doubt and I've joined the bandwagon somewhat late, but I still hope someone here can help me out with my problem.

Transfer Plus works fine, if a "paused" file is "Resumed" but I am having trouble with interrupted downloads, they are not being resumed, rather Transfer Plus simply creates a new file and starts the transfer from scratch, when I would prefer to be able to resume it.

Hence if a transfer is "cancelled" instead of "paused" for some reason, there seems to be no way to be able to resume it.

Please help !
