RE: Starting of the olympics, who are you going for? by ddunk on 08-12-2004 at 02:56 AM

Actually, the Olympics started today :P  US beat Greece in women's soccer 3-nil and Australia lost to Brazil (don't know the score)

And I dunno, the idea that the stadiums aren't even done yet interests me more than the Olympics themselves this year :P

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by surfichris on 08-13-2004 at 10:53 PM

I'm surprised the roof hasn't fallen off yet, and i'm surprised that there weren't isles of seats closed off because they werent finished yet, that there weren't any construction signs floating around and fenced off areas.

The water idea was pretty good, i'm amazed that that happened.

Still, Sydney 2000 was > *

Go Australia!

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Eljay on 08-19-2004 at 02:38 PM

* Eljay is watching streaming live coverage of team GB vs china in mixed doubles badminton final :cheesy:

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Eljay on 08-19-2004 at 03:37 PM

we lost :'(

 but we got silver

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Vazza on 08-19-2004 at 06:32 PM

Yeah, but that was a good match. At least the Brits were playing fair unlike the Chinese team who were trying every trick in the book. I got me thinking that if I had taken my badminton seriously enough, that I could be there :(
Anyways, a silvers a silver and not bad since its our first in that sport [Image: happy14.gif]

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Historically on 08-20-2004 at 01:04 AM

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Titty on 08-20-2004 at 05:33 AM

^^ lol.

I watch it because of Ian Thorpe and Michael Phelps.
They're cute. Swimmers, muscular, tan, tall. :]

But then again, I find the Olympics in general interesting.
I learned a few stories from it... lol

Like, the Romanian men's story about their inferior gym or something :p

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by sasquatch on 08-20-2004 at 01:33 PM

well, i was born in china and am on vacation in china but i live in canada... but since canada only has one bronze so far... and china has as whole s*** load of medals...

Men's Doubles : Chile wind continues to blow through draw

and

Men's Singles : MASSU (CHI) and FISH (USA) to do battle for gold

Basically it says that chile is in the final in doubles, and there were 2 chilieans in semifinals in singles.
Nicolass Massu won and passed to the final, while Fernando Gonzalez lost.
So we have 2 chances to get our first gold medal in olympic games
too bad we couldnt have a chilean final :(

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by sasquatch on 08-25-2004 at 07:23 AM

china is doin realllyyy realllyyy good this olympics, 3/5 badminton golds, 3/4 ping pong golds, 3/4 synchro diving golds and a whole s*** load of weightlifting golds :D still can't beat the darn US tho, but we're catching up, we're gonna beat russia this year, maybe we can beat US in 2008 in Beijing :D

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by RebelSean on 08-25-2004 at 11:19 AM

Phelps just gave up his spot in like his last race to his partner, can't remember his name, that was kinda dumb, but he still got a medal for doing that!

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Pr0xY on 08-26-2004 at 05:46 PM

Yeah sean, I watched that.  It was kind of touching.  I cant believe he'd do something like that, but he did say the other guy was better for the race.

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Titty on 08-26-2004 at 07:57 PM

Phleps did a good job by letting his buddy swim the race.

It made him look unselfish.  He was swimming too many
races a day anyway, exhausting.  And he won most of them, it's
good he let his teammate try and win a medal.  He was hogging
all of them :p

And he's cute :]

w00 mens triathlon was neet.. I missed a big part of it but I saw the end and I'm glad its not the US that won again. I was hoping that Australia could win at least 3rd place but unluckily, he didnt make it on time so was 4th :( ah well. NZ get 2 medals so congrats to them :gfdrin:

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Vazza on 08-27-2004 at 09:23 PM

Awwww...poor Paula Radcliff. She had to pull out to the 10000 metres with only 3 laps to go :(. Maybe she just wasn't ready after what happened on Sunday during the marathon...Didn't see much of the olympics today...might catch up later tonight though.

Does anyone know if Britain got their silver in the equestrion team event? I know our guy got the individual gold but listening to the news the other night, it said Bettina Hoy had to hand back both golds.

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by lopardo on 08-28-2004 at 12:51 AM

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by RebelSean on 08-28-2004 at 02:58 PM

Ya I know, dodgy american team! But we did good in the semi finals in poll voulting..

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Garndell on 08-28-2004 at 10:59 PM

Yes we were upgraded to Silver in the Team standings too, with Germany dropping down to fourth.  If you want dodgy take a good look at the 4x100 meter relay changeovers by the States.

Good job on the guys & good job to Kelly Holmes for wining in both the 800 & the 1500 meters.

USA mens basketball team gets bronze!?!?!?!?! That is pretty sad how bad they are this year! They haven't been shooting well at all and they even lost to puerto rico!! They should have just made the Detroit Pistons the dream team this year, they would have won us gold!

Dam. They already over. They go by way to fast. Takes freakin 4 years to put them all together and then takes 2 weeks to end them. :|

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Moo on 08-29-2004 at 07:24 PM

Wah! The games are over :'(

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by user27089 on 08-29-2004 at 07:25 PM

I don't ever really keep up with the olympics, I only enjoy the diving and combat, I watch some of the running etc. sometimes. But the most boring parts are the horses.

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by wacky on 08-29-2004 at 07:55 PM

the olympic games are officially over! that was fun

too bad Alexandre Despatie got 4th place in the 10m diving  cute guy though. Congrats to the US for getting to many medals.. once again

RE: Olympics - Athens 2004 by Vazza on 08-29-2004 at 08:14 PM

The closing cermony was good. Sad  its all over but hopefully I'll have finished my Uni course in time to sit down and watch the next Olympics.
Fav. bits most of it especially the equestrion, badminton (who knows, there might be hope for me yet :D) and the high jump in the womens decatholon with that swedish jumper who thought she'd cleared it then realising she hadn't spun round, droped her hands by her side and fell flat on her face on the mat
