"Hide advertisement banner" bug fix by Patchou on 08-21-2004 at 11:49 PM

Hello everyone,

as some of you know, there was a bug with the "Hide advertisement banner" feature of Messenger Plus! since MSN Messenger 6.0 was released. This bug caused a banner to appear from time to time above the contact list in a weird buggish way. Recently, a lot of people reported this bug on the forum so I gave a more closer look to the problem and I finally was able to fix it. No more banner, ever :). This bug fix will be part of Messenger Plus! 3.10 that will be released in the beginning of September. Also, I would like to point out that the use of ad-removal patches is illegal. The result is the same but the method differs. Please do not recommend to people to use these patches.

Last note: I was informed today about a very important problem in Messenger Plus!, some people already call it the "hi-five security hole". I am doing everything in my power to find a fix to this problem but so far, no luck. More information can be found at http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=30206 .

Live long,
Patchou

Thanks for the update Patchou.  Good luck on patching the "Hi-Five Security Hole" (which, I have no idea is being called "Security Hole").

Have fun programming :D.

Displaying the wrong picture is a security issue to you now? Wow, i'm gonna feel uber-safe using your software in the future :D. Good to hear about the ad-block, never had problems with it myself but i saw the increase of this problem at IRC too.

I don't know... what's your guess? :p

* Dane guesses Yes

For 2 reasons!  1. How could Emotions pose a Security Risk unless there is a bug in that emotions coding and 2. Its a really lowlevel problem unless there actually is a security risk associated.

Is that :dodgy: force the other computer to do something security hole going to be fixed involving the (!N) command (I won't be very clear on that because I don't want people again knowing how to do it)

RE: "Hide advertisement banner" bug fix by Patchou on 08-22-2004 at 06:13 PM

yeah yeah, the (!N) thing has already been fixed :)
