msn messenger problem (firewall) by tomfletcherman on 08-24-2004 at 05:30 PM

My firewall keeps telling me MSN is trying to connect to sites (www.imgag.com) (rad.msn.com) etc and I don't know why, what is it doing as imgag doesn't sound like a microsoft page and nothign appears when I visit it in internet explorer

rad.msn.com is part of msn (msn messenger) i think this is the msn ads page.

Just allow it. It's pnly meant to show in an ad frame.

it's surely a site that advertises at msn.

I am noticing that i'm gettin more graphical ads. I used to only have the plain MSN Messenger banner, then sometimes an ad with text links to msn services but now i'm getting website type ads.

... those crazy people as MSN...

I don't feel this is spyware, although it is fustrating

Personally, I believe with MSN experimenting with the current adverts, (it also caused a problem with Plus's hiding them) this could be related...What firewall do you use? If you don't mind exposing that?

norton 2002, fully updated

Why don't you send an error report e-mail to Symantec?

you really doubt they'd make SUCH a bug?
RE: msn messenger problem (firewall) by tomfletcherman on 08-27-2004 at 08:01 AM

I wont, but only because MSN are probably just playing around with their ads

edit: looks like MSN are changing their protocol a bit, my firewall gave me about 20 warnings which I had to accept. gateway.hotmail.com - I'm sure they havn't used that before.
