Statistics of use by Patchou on 08-25-2004 at 02:05 AM

Hello everyone,

Ithought some of you would be interested to know the current language statistics of Messenger Plus! so here are they, accompagned with web statistics too. The numbers shown here are precise and come directly from my auto-update statistics which count all my users once a week. On my 5.2 million users, 4.6 million use a version that sends the language info in the stats (3.00 and above) so you can count on the stats to be truthful. Mine is configured as Spanish (Argentina), but still Spanish (Spain) matches Windows better (Windows no te tutea :P)

Well, but the default should be Spanish (Spain) :P

spanish spain is for spain ~_~ even though that doesnt mean that u aint supposed to use it. we could call these translations spanish tuteo and spanish not tuteo, but that would be nasty :P
blah, whatever :P i could make it not "tuteando", but we decided we would do it that way with choli :P
u can change from one to another at any time anyway.

It would be nasty, agreed :) But I still don't understand why, if the Spanish version of Windows uses a "non-tuteo" Spanish, Plus Spanish default is the "tuteo" version :P
RE: Statistics of use by Chrono on 08-28-2004 at 01:55 AM

bleh whatever, lets stop this discussion, it could keep going and going.

Afrikaans is just called Afrikaans in English... but Nederlands could've been listed as Dutch yeah..
RE: Statistics of use by Servien on 08-28-2004 at 09:37 AM

Wel, dis jammer van die Afrikaanse vertaling, ek het net 200 :P maar as 'n mens daaroor dink is dit eintlik logies...

1. Daar is nie baie Afrikaanse sagteware.
2. Mense verwag nie dat daar Afrikaanse sagteware sal wees nie dus gebruik hulle die Engelse weergawe.
3. En daar is nie baie Suid-Afrikaners wat internet het nie. :(

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well... too bad about the Afrikaans translation, I only have 200 :P but if you think of it very logical...

1. There isn't a lot Afrikaans computer software.
2. Afrikaans people don't expect it to be in Afrikaans so they choose English.
3. In South Africa most people don't really have internet :(

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh ja gefeliciteert Cookie, nummer 4! ;) (Y)

yes, that's true.

Anyway, there are more spanish speaking people in southamerica than in spain, that's why spanish-latino has more people.
RE: Statistics of use by Kian on 08-28-2004 at 03:08 PM

well... it would be lovely to see the number of inhabitants for each country - it would make the statistic more easier to understand.

Patchou - give us a new statistic with inhabitants-count beside your user-statistic...

that would make a better idea of the statistics, however the percentage of people that use internet in each country is something important too. For example, in usa there are more inhabitants than in spain, but also the percentage of people who have internet access is greater than the spanish one.
RE: Statistics of use by jpg050 on 08-29-2004 at 11:06 PM

What a nice translation we have... :D 400k people can't be wrong...
It was in the ancient times that we decided to make our translation formal, and latin one informal...  in fact first I made two Spain-Spanish versions, and we choose the formal one in a poll, if my mind doesn't fail me...

RE: Statistics of use by Chrono on 08-29-2004 at 11:10 PM

spanish latin + spanish spain = 1015K ! amazing

RE: Statistics of use by Patchou on 08-30-2004 at 06:09 AM

I don't have stats with countried but I'll try toadd them inthe next version of Plus!. As for Spanish, I can confirm you that if your Windows' language is set to Spanish (Spain), Plus! will use the equivalent translation by default (if not, you can be sure that you wouldn't have such a high number of users as most people wouldn't bother to switch :)).

RE: Statistics of use by MC Inferno on 08-30-2004 at 04:48 PM

Once again.. English Wins (Y)

RE: Statistics of use by Tarry on 08-30-2004 at 05:48 PM

Catalan (Catalonia) + Catalan (Valencia) = 11.7k

11.000 users in a 6.000.000 country is approximately a 0.183%!

0.183% of Catalan speakers use MsgPlus! (I don't count Valencian and Balearic users, I don't want to argue again).

But... last year approximately 1.014.000 families in Catalonia (48.3% of families) had at least one computer with Internet access, which means that (if you understand that only one user per family uses MsgPlus) AT LEAST 1.08% of Catalan Internet Users use MsgPlus!.

Patchou, you should be glad of Catalan users :refuck:

The stats have been updated :)

RE: Statistics of use by Tarry on 10-18-2004 at 02:58 PM

4k more catalan users in two month's time!

Perhaps you'd say that it's because Valencian is not used anymore in Messenger Plus, but Valencian went from 0.7k to 0.5k. We the Catalans (and Valencians, of course ;)) are great!

RE: Statistics of use by RebelSean on 10-18-2004 at 03:02 PM

English yet again on top!

RE: Statistics of use by Abz2k4 on 10-18-2004 at 03:14 PM

English wins by loooads :D

RE: Statistics of use by user27089 on 10-18-2004 at 03:22 PM

IMO, English is one of the smaller countries out of all of the countries that are on the statistics list, so why are we winning, america is huge, loads of people use msn, so why don't they know god damn it.

RE: Statistics of use by numberzh on 10-20-2004 at 08:57 AM

I don't believe this , there can't be so little persons use msn in China mainland.

RE: Statistics of use by Dan0208 on 10-20-2004 at 11:19 AM

traxor think about what you just said :S
as far as i know Americans speak english. and so do many other countries ie Australia, England... lol

21k fellow Hungarians :D More than the population of the suburb where I live!
btw 2 months ago there were only 15k...
If we keep going up with 40% each two months, in one year we'll have 158k, and in 2006 there will be more than one million Hungarian Messenger Plus users!
You get some definite support from this small country, Patchou;)

RE: Statistics of use by Kian on 11-14-2004 at 02:13 PM

When does this language-registration takes place? is it while choosing the language due installation or (also) if you change language while running the program?

RE: Statistics of use by ShunterAlhena on 11-14-2004 at 03:51 PM

Any stats changes for November?
Kian: I think it sends in the language selection when it first runs. Remember it also opens up the language page on msgplus.net! This is a guess though, consult Posting Freaks or above:grin:

RE: Statistics of use by Kian on 11-14-2004 at 03:55 PM

well i thought that option (when it opens the msgplus-page when the installtion has finished)...

I dunno about stats for nov. - just currious about the stat-collector

it does both things at the same time. The web it opens includes the language selected in the installation
