Remote Control plugin by pizzaiolo on 08-26-2004 at 03:35 PM

There is a small plugin useful to implement a remote control system that is working also behind the firewalls.

All the system is made only by freeware components.

For more information and plugin download, see this site: MSN Messenger Remote Control

The website address was changed. The new address is http://pizzaiolo.everywebhost.com

Now on the website there are instructions to setup and use the Remote Control plugin, code-name Nautilus Remote Control.

Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

Good, old invalid URL...
Edit: Link fixed

Care to tell us how this is different to Remote Assistance?

pizzaiolo, could you post some more information about it.  And like Anubis said, how this is any difference from Remote Assistance?

It does now, apparently...the link must have been fixed after the post

Before I install it I can't find any evidence on the site that this 'addition' actually doesn't patch or edit the runtime or executable files of MSN Messenger...

What do you mean by that?  Is it safe to use or are you saying it does nothing?

RE: Remote Control plugin by pizzaiolo on 08-26-2004 at 04:03 PM

With the Remote Control plugin system, you can have the following scenario:

You install the server plugin on your office PC that is behind a corporate firewall, which doesn't accept any incoming connections.

You install the client plugin on your home PC.

You have two different MSN user logged: user A on the office PC and user B on the home PC.

On the office PC you are running VNC server, while on the home PC you are running VNC viewer in listening mode.

User B (home) sends a Remote Control plugin command to user A (office). The server plugin of User A automatically makes a connection to the home PC through VNC.

At the end you have user A (at home) automatically connected to the office PC, which can fully controlled through the VNC.

I hope my description was clear, even not much detailed.

I am not expert about Remote Assistance. If it is possible to make an automatic remote connection from the home PC to the office PC behind a corporate firewall, please explain me how.

I'm saying it could be illegal
RE: Remote Control plugin by pizzaiolo on 08-26-2004 at 04:19 PM

Can you please tell me whether it is possible to do the same automatic remote control simply with Remote Assistance ?

If so, the Remote Control plugin is useless !

Please, let me know.

Bye

Dear Anubis,

this 'addition' actually doesn't patch or edit the runtime or executable files of MSN Messenger...

It is all new code and freeware.

So does it hook into MSN Messenger?...If not then why does it have MSN Messenger in the title? And for legal reasons I suggest you remove this from the title, in any case...

of course, if I install remote control software on my computer, so that I authorize myself to control my pc, I'm doing illegal activities.

Is running notepad illegal too?

 sorry but i can't find the words for this.

@pizzaiolo: it's a remote control tool for MSN Messenger, and since you're not making profit out of it there actually is no problem i guess.
RE: Remote Control plugin by Patchou on 08-26-2004 at 05:35 PM

I'm sorry to say this... it's going to be hard but let's try...
M_e is ri... riig.... right; M_e is right, I said it    :p

There's nothign illegal here and actually, if the plugin is done properly, it can be very useful. I hope you'll post it in the plugin db when it's mature enough :)

My website http://pizzaiolo.shyper.com was remove.

The web hosting provider (shyper) said that it was full of copyrighted software. But it is was all freeware. :S

Do you think it was right to remove that website ?

See the reason from the shyper forum:

Did you delete my website ?

What do you think ?

Is it not possible to distribute freeware without permission of the author ?

Thanks for your opinion.

RE: Remote Control plugin by pizzaiolo on 08-28-2004 at 03:22 PM

I made a new website for the Remote Control plugin:

http://pizzaiolo.everywebhost.com/

I hope not to banned again.

Bye

RE: Remote Control plugin by pizzaiolo on 08-29-2004 at 08:15 AM

On the new website (http://pizzaiolo.everywebhost.com) I have added the instructions to setup and use the Nautilus Remote Control plugin.

Please, let me know whether they are correct and clear enough.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Best regards,

You've got the total wrong end of the stick;
I am saying that patching the .exe file is illegal...I wanted to make sure that it didn't alter the executable files that was the legal reference.

Please read threads more carefully in future...
Please be more careful to read my previous post before you assume you know what I am referring to

Again you've totally missed the point. The reference to a company can not be used in a name of any other software (freeware or otherwise) developed by an unrelated 3rd Party...
I can't stress how much you should read previous posts before needless (wrong) comments...
RE: Remote Control plugin by pizzaiolo on 08-30-2004 at 10:19 AM

Dear Anubis,

in order to make you happy and avoid any eventual legal problems, I followed your suggestion to change the name of my plugin and website.

The new name is: Nautilus Remote Control

I hope that there are no more problems with this new name.

Finally, don't worry ! Nautilus Remote Control doesn't patch or edit the runtime or executable files of MSN Messenger...

Bye
