Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by .Roy on 08-30-2004 at 08:34 PM

Ok on my free time while i was banned i decided to download fireworks and mess around a bit.
Later i thought.. maybe i can be helpful.. and i knew that gmail was really popular and many people didnt have the time to create images or stuff like that..
So then i created my own little image that fits right next to your font and is just as simple
You might like it or u might not but its the best i could do :-D

What you need to do:
Go to edit signature and type in your username for gmail. (without the @gmail part just the username)

then copy this and paste this     (remember not to put a space after your username)

it should look like (username)[Image: Gmail4.gif]

I made another one but theres still a problem i dont plan on fixing it but if u like it u can also use this

That Looks like this Username[Image: Gmail6.gif]

Nice :p...Although a little fast on browsers without animated frame rate limits...

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by .Roy on 08-31-2004 at 12:24 PM

Hmm Anubis: ??? do u think i should slow it down?? hmm ill take a poll later today.. see what everyone thinks about it

Ningc_Maniac: How does it look.. its one of my crappy works.. did it in around 3 minutes lol

Every browser supports the delay in a frame... It's the creators responsebility to set it to a value which every browser can handle. This means: not to fast  (not every browser on every computer can handle frame delays of 2ms for example)....

The frame delay in this image is set to 60ms, which is pretty fast (actually, too fast to be handled properly in many browser on normal computers; everything below 100ms must be considered "not delayed" when you create an animated gif for the web...)

Some other things about the GIF:
- the font is aliased, this means itsn't the same as the default font used on many systems. On most pc-systems the fonts are not aliased. It is only if you set cleartype on in Windows...
And since you used anti-aliassing, the colors in the GIF are needless too
high. If you didn't use anti-aliassing then you could do with 8 colors...
And since you used anti-aliassing, the gif will only "work" when the background on which it is used is a very light color...
- Also, the alignment with text is wrong: the font in the image doesn't lign up with the font in de text which you use before the image... (I believe it's 1 or 2 pixels, if I look at it quickly without magnifying it)
- besides that, there are some animation-things which aren't a good practice:
you have mixed full images with cropped images.
you have mixed "remove by background" with "leave as is".

other then that, nice idea for those who want it...

Don't create a poll for that, just slow it down... see above why

irritating fast :p ... make the delay of each frame 500ms
RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by .Roy on 08-31-2004 at 12:51 PM

u mean half a second a frame!!.... how bout  20/100 thats better... in my mind anyway..
im only a kid and i dont understand what u are talking about the GIF i just started using the program fireworks and im still learning :-) so if you want to take your time and show me how to do it that would be great :-P but ill learn thanks for the suggestions

*** how do i lower it by 2 pixels***

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by Maniac on 08-31-2004 at 01:00 PM

Yes, that is a little too fast.... it looks like it's just flashing

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by .Roy on 08-31-2004 at 01:04 PM

Ningc_maniac i feel horrible for making u a horrible image.. im gonna go back to work :-P And BTW i slowed the gmail down to 15... this is much better i think... im not gonna make it 20 or higher.. it just looks stupid...
Well anyway thanks im gonna go make on for Ningc_maniac!!

That the most important thing: learning..... you only can learn it by doing it ;) and if someone points you to the "mistakes". So don't take my "advise" as something negative, it was meant positive.

(also, mind you: they aren't realy mistakes cause it works, but it could be made better)

Also, I can't realy teach you; the things I said are things you'll learn when you make a lot of animated gifs and read a lot about how it actually works and all (note: I can't point you to a link with a big tutorial and explaination guide as I thrown those all away long ago, sorry. But you'll find lots of tuts and how-to's and tech. guides to animated gifs on the web)

you don't need to lower it, it needs to be higher (by 1 pixel):

Also notice that the font isn't the same because you use anti-aliasing when you created the font in your gif...

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by .Roy on 08-31-2004 at 02:11 PM

where do u uncheck that option when ur exporting ur frames?
*thanks for the help* Cookie

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by CookieRevised on 08-31-2004 at 02:33 PM

the alignment of [Image: Gmail5.gif] is even worse....

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by .Roy on 08-31-2004 at 02:42 PM

hmm in my computer it looks like its to high

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by CookieRevised on 08-31-2004 at 02:50 PM

it depends on how the image is aligned in the html code...
(that's why its actually not a good idea to use this kind of image-attach-to-text, unless you have control over the way it is aligned)

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by .Roy on 08-31-2004 at 02:54 PM

uggh... but the attached to text is whats so speciel about it :-P i think ill keep it the way it is... because if it wasnt an attach to text image then it wouldnt be so fun :-P and new...

My next thing to do on my list is to try to get an admin or super mod to lock one of my threads.. and there ill realease all my new text to images :-P u really helped me a lot

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by CookieRevised on 08-31-2004 at 04:42 PM

Well, tbh, release them in this thread in 1 post (your first, top post is excellent for that)... and if someone spams this thread then simple report the spam. Also, because you should release them in your toppost, people will see them immediatly when they open the thread....

In short: there is realy no need to create yet another thread about the same thing (this "pisses" of people also)....

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by .Roy on 08-31-2004 at 04:50 PM

Cookie revised is my email gmail one looking better now???

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by CookieRevised on 08-31-2004 at 04:57 PM

Gmail5.gif ? a bit... still off by 2 pixels or so in Mozilla based browsers, in MSIE it is fine....

Gmail4.gif, is in Mozilla based browsers aligned to low, in MSIE too high... (but like I said, you can't do anything about it unless you have control over the html)

btw, the @ in Gmail5.gif is also cleared on the bottom when the G falls down, check your animation... (this is why I suggested earlier not to mix several frame-placing methods together ("full image vs cropped image" together with "clear by background vs. leave as is"))

RE: Anyone want a gmail signature without any hassle opening files??!Then Come Here!! by .Roy on 08-31-2004 at 05:04 PM

i know the tip off fades ive also checked it in fireworks.. but when i view it in fireworks it seems to be ok... i dont know how to fix it... if u use fireworks maybe see whats the problem on your free time :-P... on IE the pictures look pretty ok a pixel is nothing big.. and i cant control the html here.. i just want it simple.. if its 1 or 2 pixels off its better then nothing :-P and again i cant see a problem with the gmail5 when i open it in fireworks but it does look bad when i open it in ie :-P
thanks for your time
Roy
