Is there any limitation of contacts in the list?
If yes, how many and is there a possibility to exceed the number of contacts?

Yes, 150 I believe.

you cannot proceed the set amount of contacts i'm afraid, but luckily, msn are supposed to be getting more servers, and allowing you to have more contacts

Or, you can use Messenger Discovery: it has a contact list extender.
